He was damm good. He played on mostly lousy teams and he still excelled. He leadership is without question. If we had more Schobel's we would have won more games. He will be missed.

Is Evans a #1 on the Bills and a #2 anywhere else?
Bob in STL replied to MClem06's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Lee Evans would be a #1 if he he played for Miami or NY Jets. He is clearly the #1 on Buffalo. Put him on the Colts and he is a #1 and in the Pro Bowl. -
Since when is Gaither considered a guy that cannot play? Gaither can play and he can play LT. It all comes down to what price are we willing to pay for him. Nix's actions indicate he is not willing to pay that price. I just cannot believe that nix will sit pat with Bell, Meredith and Wang as his LT prospects.
-
I disagree. It had a huge impact on the team in that it set the pay structure for the OL. Two years later Jason Peters emerges and becomes a Pro Bowl LT and for a number of reasons is making peanuts compared to Dockery and Walker ... both of whom are very average at best. I believe that these poor decisions affected the entire OL and especially Peters. Bad business almost always has secondary impacts.

I guess the 1 year deal at $2.3M sets the market for a RT. If we do trade for him I would expect his agent will want to renegotiate a longer term contract for a LT, not a a RT. Looking at this number I am just amazed at what we paid Langston Walker and Derrick Dockery!! I am so uncomfortable with Bell, Meredith and Wang as our LT prospects ... I hope the door is not closed on Gaither.

why is Jamon Meredith being ignored
Bob in STL replied to milehiLou's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well Mrs. Meredith I think your son projects more as a RT. Most "very talented prospects" tend to make the 53 man roster and start their careers as back ups at least. The fact that your son was on the Green Bay practice squad could indicate that his talent, or work ethic perhaps, are not all that you think? I sure hope he steps up and can play because we need it. -
"Next year" is always the best year for drafting quarterback
Bob in STL replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If you can believe the experts and all the draftniks the common theme is that the 2011 QB class has a lot of potential, maybe not as many big names from the bigs schools. Looker is at the top of the list right now. Other than Bradford at #1, the 2010 class did not have QBs that teams covet. Denver chased Tebow but he lasted awhile. Every team passed on Clausen in round 1. Buffalo, a team looking for a QB, passed on Tebow and Clausen. -

Well in this case I think it is true. Looks like there is some blue chip QBs coming out next year. Unfortunately, when drafting a QB you never know. -
I think CJ Spiller is going to wear 21? That could work out nicely for you. Flutie is the best # 7 that I can remember.

Taking the time to be informed is never a good thing. Only fools read everything thay can and then draw their own opinions. Take the easy way out ... Just read TSW and you will get all the real facts. Better yet, judge all the players by their Madden score. That way you can play all day and have fun learning about the NFL. (sarcasm off now)

This Wood, Wang and Levitre stuff is going to go in forever. I was funny for awhile but it is time to move on.

Lynch arrives in Buffalo- Per PFT
Bob in STL replied to Deep2Moulds46's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Your analysis is incomplete. Nothing in it says for certain that Jackson is better between the 20's and Lynch is better in the Red Zone. Nothing charts the line of scrimmage for each run. What if Jackson had 5 carries from inside the 20 last year and ended up with 5 touchdowns? Not likely, but you did not bother to look at actual Red Zone carries, Red zone YPC, or Red Zone TDs. You also did not look the passing side of the game or how they block. The only conclusion I can make is that Jackson had a better season in 09, and Lynch had a better season in 08. This is a new season with a new offense installed. We shall see how they play once the competition starts. -
I can remember when Shanahan and Cowher were coordinators. Sometimes they work out, sometimes you get Greg Williams or Mike Mularkey.

Will the Bills make a pick up/trade
Bob in STL replied to mpl6876's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I did not say don't play them. There are plenty of opportunites for Johnson or Hardy to play even if we bring in a vet. I expect Maybin to play a lot, especially on passing downs. Bell ... I would like him to beat out a legimate tackle to become a starter on this team. Last year he was given the job and he was not ready for it. With his injury it remains to be seen if he will be ready this season. His only competion is Meredith and Wang. Not a great situation to be in. -

I saw that. Meredith at LT gives me no more comfort than Bell. I would prefer to see Gaither, Brown or Adams ... any of the above. Veteran experience at tackle will go a long way. -

Past history says we will stick with what we have. You never know, this is a knew regime. I really want to bring in a veteran LT and a veteran WR. Hard to believe they are happy with Bell and Hardy/Johnson. -
We shall see. Baltimore will unload Gaither if they can. After this season they get nothing for him.
-
Probably because the ONLY place that Wilson is regarded as a solid starter and a better safety than Donte Whitner is right here on these boards. Wilson is an excellent backup who is capable of making plays as a starter as well, I am surprised he didn't score in the low 60's.
-
I think if all five of the players you mention develop the Bills will be in great shape. I actually think the two most key young players are Bell at LT and Troupe at NT. If these two step and play solid football it will really help the rebuilding timetable. I expect that Wood, Levitre, Bryd and Nelson from last years draft will get better. I hope to see Maybin come along and produce at LB but I listed Troupe first because NT is most important to the 3-4 defense. I am skeptical on Hardy and Johnson at WR. We could use a surprise from one of them.

Are you calling Marshawn Lynch an impact player? When? Two seasons ago he was a promising an above average back who would run hard most of the time, had undeveloped pass receiving skills, and was poor at pass protection support (picking up blitzes). He ended up a Pro Bowl alternate and got to play when 3 other backs couldn't or wouldn't. Last season he did nothing special other than lose his starting job after sitting out the first four games due to suspension. We had this guy named Thurman Thomas who run, cacth and block, all while staying out of trouble. He was an impact player. If we could get a 3rd rounder for Lynch and trade that pick to Baltimore for Gaither I would be all over that deal.

Seattle has no one we need? Yes, thats right, we have such an abundance of talent. I forgot.
