  1. How can anyone be comfortable with this group? .... Bell, Meredith, Green, Chambers and Wang. I see one experienced starter, Green, and he is average at best. Bell is still unproven and coming off of an injury. Meredith has shown flashes. Chambers was cut last year and is a borderline backup. Wang is a rookie and there are no expectations that he will contribute this year. Yes, we should have done more.
  2. Rubbed me the wrong way ... 1 -Ronnie Harmon - blamed Jim Kelly for "the drop". Was a talented player but moody and did not fit the team chemistry. 2 - McGahee - Had nothing to do but go to Applebee's. 3 - Rob Johnson - cost a lot and did very little.
  3. John Fina? Come on. I will bet if he ever said anything about 4 seconds it was about a very specific play where his assignment was to block the man in front of him for 4 seconds, release, and go down field. I just can't buy your story in the context you tell it. Fina was a good guy, very intelligent, and a good player. Oh, and by the way, he was drafted by the Polian/ Butler regime. Most people here think that means something. I don't understand how he gets lumped in with McGahee, Lynch and Williams?
  4. I think we are going to be very happy with CJ Spiller.
  5. I think Wood will move to center if Kyle Calloway or someone else on the roster can prove to be a good RG. That won't happen this year but maybe next.
  6. Ok. Must admit I got a good laugh out of the avatar changes.
  7. Good story. I like what he stands for and I think he is going to be a good coach for us.
  8. I usually don’t get involved in the non-football potshots that go on here. I think that you, Laroc1015, have handled this situation quite well. DML2005 really struck a sour chord with me with his comment on the short bus. I have great friend who has a wonderful child that rides the “short bus” as he calls it. It is bothersome to me to hear comments like that, especially the context it was used it in. Next he makes comments on affirmative action. I assume he is very young since he thinks that replacing the word "heart" with "fart" (see his avatar) is actually funny. Hope you can make it up to Buffalo for a game sometime soon. The atmosphere is just great for football.
  9. Not quite. We were starting an upswing in '72 with many young talented players, including OJ. Saban was the coach. OJ had 292 carries that year and Randy Jackson had only 17. Our fullbacks were Jim Braxton and Wayne Patrick and they both played much more than Jackson. Saban was going to ride OJ for all he could. Randy did score one TD for the Bills, his only NFL TD. He caught a 13 yard pass from Dennis Shaw to give us a 6-3 first quarter lead against Miami. We ended up losing that one 30-13.
  10. QUOTE (Laroc1015 @ Jul 24 2010, 08:33 AM) I was born in Virginia thousands of miles away from Buffalo, my brother "was" a bills fan in the late 80's and I recall in 88 he puttin me on to the team.. He had jackets wool hats gloves all these goodies that I was attach to at a young age. At that point I said I don't know anything about these bills but my brother will teach me, I remember the wide right like it just happen, yep a heart broken kid with tears of excitement and pain in my eyes so bitter sweet. I knew rite then I was a fan for life everything I did was buffalo street football with my family we was the Bills. Like I said I grew up in Va so I didn't have the luxury of attending any games all my family was either Redskins, Cowgirls or dolphin fans me the only Bills fan. I move away in 2000 to New Jersey the most exciting part about this move was I will be closer to the bills! I never been to a Bills home game but I intend to go this year. I'm so loyal to the Bills I took my Vacation time n visited the city of Buffalo took pics of the Ralph walked in the lil shop near the field house and it was a dream come true. I have been to every Bills and Jets game kick out of 3for assault 1Philly and Bills game almost lost my life and yet I do it with pride! The one thing I love the most and that its more loyal fans like you guys in the world! Its amazin and some what unique these days to be a Bills fan and I wouldn't trade it for the WORLD! But I believe if this team left the City of Buffalo I just might not share the same passion. And for me its only one football team I hate every team in the NFL point blank period. Go Bills 1988-Til Lighten up DML. While your "brain recovers" please remember that this is a football forum. I find it awesome to have fans like Laroc. He has no roots to the team or the city and yet he loves them both. All you can do with that is criticize his grammar and his knowledge of geography? What a guy. Ironically you misspelled "grammar" but I can overlook it.
  11. Born and raised in Buffalo. As a kid I collected those fantastic AFL football cards. Remember the oversized ones and the ones with the television boarder? The Bills were one of the best teams back in the mid 60's. My Dad and my uncles watched them on TV and I was right there with them. When I got older I went to games with my friends. I still go back twice a year to see games with my sons and my brothers and their kids. I never miss a game on TV. Loyalty and tradition. They are my team.
  12. I find it hard to translate sucess at college level to sucess at the pro-level (See Lou Holtz and many others). Going the other way, Pete Carroll and Saban both struggled at the pro-level and won a lot in college. Don't think you can correlate anything there other than adding more coaching and leadership experience to Chan's resume. Other than that, we know that Gailey did a good job at Dallas and was a very good OC in the NFL. Overall his HC resume is better than that his of Gregg Williams, Mike Mularkey, and Dick Jauron. He is not Bill Cowher but he is someone highly recommended by Bill Cowher. A HC that does not pay attention to defense? Wow. How do you get that? Didn't we draft defense in rounds 2 and 3 when most experts said we needed to draft LT and QB? If your statement were true don't you think Chan would have pushed for offense with these picks? A nobody at DC? Did you ever hear of Fewell before he came here? He had no pro level DC experience either and he did a nice job with limited talent. Same with Jerry Gray. There is no reason to believe that the new DC cannot be succesful. I think it is good to have some young blood. Lets give him a chance. Old school GM? How do you know that the players cannot relate to Buddy? And by the way, who cares if they can't ... that is Chan's job. Old school or not, it is refreshing to see someone that actually knows what a football player looks like running the team and making personell decisions. Cannot argue with any of your assessments on our talent, our lack of skill in the trenches, or the uncertainty in our front 7 playing a new scheme .. all very valid. We have lots of holes. It will take two more drafts to fix the talent issues. We will not have an instant 1 year turn around with this regime. Being a Bills fan, I am optimistic about the future. Happy to see Jauron gone and very happy to see Brandon pushed out of the football side of the business.
  13. Unfortunately he is not even close.
  14. First live game was "the comeback"!!!! Nice. Marshawn "should be" is right. But I don't he will be. I think Marshawn is going to screw himself up again because Marshawn is Marshawn.
  15. When I first moved here I thought it was the hottest summer ever. I have gotten used to the summer and also learned that summers are hotter and more humid in many other places, especially the south (Atlanta), the rest of the midwest, and the gulf coast (Houston, Pensacola). What I like about the weather here compared to Buffalo: Winter that starts in mid December and ends in February - with very little snow most years. Early spring and gorgeous weather in April, May and June. Ok - July and August are hot. July is very hot. September is like the best weeks of Buffalo summer. Amazing. October is awesome too, sunny most of the time and cool. November is similar to October. Cooler but still not cold. Where did you go to school?

  17. QUOTE (CodeMonkey @ Jul 12 2010, 12:56 PM) * You sound like these guys are 10 years old and not adult professional athletes. This isn't fifth grade you know, they should all be able to be responsible for their own work ethic (or lack thereof). True. They may be adults professional athletes but let me add that these guys do not have the same mentality as players in past eras. The spoiling starts in high school and continues through college. By the time they are drafted most of them have a me-first attitude. It is rare to find players that are not in this mold. Free agency actually feeds this issue. I have stated in various posts that this team is so used to losing that they expect it. This is something that TO noticed in the New England season opener. We need to bring in (by draft or free agency) a few talented leaders that can't stand to lose, they must impose their will on the rest of the team. The Dockery's and Walker's are not the right kind of free agents to sign. Average players who take the money and run.
  18. A non-idiot would know when to use "an" versus "a".
  19. What you quote woudl have worked in the 70's, 80's and even some in the 90's. Todays defenses are too fast and too good to allow this. Teams put 8 in the box and stop most running games. Thats when you have to throw. If you cannot run and throw you cannot win consistently. If you cannot pick up blitzes you will not win. If you do not have a QB that can read defenses you will not win. If we run 40 times and pass 20 times we better have a great defense to go with it.
  20. Don't know where you get your information on the trickery, he seems to be an intelligent player. He is coming off of a strong season. He is physically talented as you say. He is the veteran in the group. I hope he can do it. Not sure he has the skills to cover? We will see.
  21. People blame coaches and conditioning for the poor fourth quarter results. I think tougher football players, one that can't stand to lose are whats is needed to bring this team around. Hopefully Nix can start to fill the roster with guys that don't accept losing. Recall the season opener in New England last year. I don't think the final outcome surprised too many players on either sideline.
  22. Ah yes ... blame the ubiquitous "management". Like who? What are the names of these "managers" that denied Jauron of his power? Brandon? Guy? Levy? Modrak? Just exactly who in management had the power to make Jauron's position coaches go against the man that hired him? It sure looked to me that Perry Fewell wanted the job after Jauron was fired. Same with Bbby April who clearly stated that. Does that sound like the situation you (or Schobel) describes? One very good reason why the Bills have been below average for 10 years is the players. We simply have not had very many really good ones. Additionally, there is very little leadership on this team from the players themselves, the players accept losing. If indeed Mr. Schoebel told you that then I would put in at the top of the list of players that did not lead or do enough to turn this thing around. He is in fact the longest member of the decade of losers.
  23. Good catch. Villapiano was one of the old vets brought in to stir things up. Devlin and Williams had great careers for the Bills. We had some tough customers on this team. This team matched the cities blue collar image very well. When things got bad and Knox left I was very upset.
