Lets keep this simple. 1. They lost their best player - Schobel 2. The coaching is much worse - Fewell vs. Edwards 3. Mostly the same personnel as last year and that defense was also last in rushing yards alowed 4 Marginal help from free agents (Edwards and Davis); even less help from the draft (Troup, Carrington, Moats, Batten) 5. Players playing out of position - Kelsey, Williams, Stroud, Ellis (now cut), Mitchell (now released) 6. No production from #1 picks - McCargo and Maybin 7. No pressure on the QB - (see 1 though 6 above)

The Worst Decade of Drafting In NFL History?

Are there any "hidden gems" on this defense???
Bob in STL replied to DUFF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Kyle Williams is a solid player. The jury is still out on Troup, and Carrington is an unknown. LB is lacking in talent. We have nothing. I do not see Moats as anything more than special teams. I still hope he develops. In the secondary the top prospects are McKelvin and Bryd. Neither are "hiddden gems" since they are high drfat picks. We had some but we let one go to New Orleans and other one plays for the Jets. Overall it looks like slim pickins' on defense. That could be why we give up 34 points per game? -
Remi Prudhomme is deceased also. I don't think Die Hard 1967 is Howard Kindig. We discussed who he is this summer. I will keep it a secret to protect him from future harassment. I think I may have met Die Hard at a Church Fund Raiser, back on the West Side. I met Al Bemiller and Joe O'Donnell. Back in the late 60's and early 70's these guys came to small local events for free as guest speakers. That was a great era. Better than today in many aspects.

My first prediction in 20 years

Thankfully, these Chiefs do not have Lenny Dawson, Otis Taylor, Mike Garrett, Buck Buckanon, Willie Lanier or Bobby Bell. Bills 30 - Chiefs 27. -

Were gonna win tomorrow

If we do this .... 1. RUN 2. STOP the RUN 3. Put pressure on Cassel 4. Stop all the turnovers -
Williams (OT), Patulski (DE), Gant (TE) and Cowlings (DE)all played and started. They were just not very good. Gant had a couple of good games but was very inconsistent overall. Tony Hunter (TE) played for a little bit but accomplished little. Cousineau (LB) - at least he played in the NFL and was worthy of a pick. The worst picks are the guys that never got on the field and faded out of the league after their first contract: Phil Dokes (DT), Booker Moore (RB), Tom Rudd (LB), Perry Tuttle (WR), and Eric Flowers (DE) top the list. John McCargo (DT) is all set to join this group. Maybin (DE/LB) could be destined to as well. The list is long and it is littered with defensiuev linemen too.

If they beat the Chiefs will you start a thread on them going to the playoffs?

Should the Bills go lighter at DE?
Bob in STL replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No. Draft guys that are going to be good football players in the NFL. Draft guys that are animals and absolutely hate to lose. Do you think for a minute that Ray Lewis was going to tolerate losing the game on Sunday? Too much emphasis on measurables and schemes is what got us in trouble. -
Aaron Maybin is playing out of position
Bob in STL replied to Got_Wood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agree. Look at London Fletcher. He is smaller than Maybin, went undrafted out of John Carroll College, yet he has been in the NFL for 13 years without ever missing a game. Coaches love him because he brings it. He has been a captain on every team he was on. He had a SB ring, pro bowls, 1000-ish tackles and lots of big plays. I look at Maybin and I don't see anything. -
Aaron Maybin is playing out of position
Bob in STL replied to Got_Wood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Did you watch any preseaon games? Put him in as a linebacker in open space and you can run straight at him and right over him. He is absolutely horrible against the run. He is weak and gets moved easily. His instincts are poor. He best opportunity is as a pass rusher were he can use his speed to get around a tackle and get to the QB. Of course, we are still waiting for him to accomplish this feat in a real game. -
Kansas City Chiefs focus-Ryan Fitzpatrick!

Says who? Lets play the game and see who is better. I like our chances. -
Maybin and George Edwards
Bob in STL replied to It's in My Blood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why are you blaming Edwards for Maybin's problems. Don't you think Edwards would love it if Maybin produced? Maybe the reason Edwards has "shown us nothing" is because Nix and company were relying on Maybin to step up. Chan does not appear to be very happy with Maybin either. So why should Edwards play him? Jauron drafted Maybin and he didn't play him either. Maybin has been horrible in all facets of the game, even special teams. -

Doubt it. Maybin's physical and mental limitations are the problem. -
I sure hope you don't break your arm while patting yourself on the back. I do pay attention to details. He looked good. Especially considering his first start, on the road, and against a strong defense. Fitz had time to go deep and to look recievers off. Howard had no penalties and gave up no sacks. I do not think that Cornell Green accomplished that in any of his starts. What do you want? I am not ready to anoint him as the next Howard Ballard at RT. He will have some tough games. Speed rushers could give him problems as he is more likely to be a guard in this league than a tackle that has to play in space.

We played mostly a 4-3. We loaded up to stop the run and did ok compared to previous weeks. Our bigger problem was lack of pressure on the QB. That and no ability to cover a tight end.
-
His decision to run out the kick-off at the end of the first half was a bad one. He is young and he will get better. Experience will help all aspects of his game. I still like him and I think he will be star someday.

Prediction: Fitzpatrick Looks Bad Against Baltimore
Bob in STL replied to NaPolian8693's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
OK guys he said he was wrong. I personally do not believe that Fitz is the long term solution but I definitely want him on my team. We should draft a legitimate QB prospect (not a 7th round flyer) and then make the prospect take the job away from Fitz, not hand it to him. The prospect should hold the clipboard for a while and learn from Fitz. Fitz is smart, dedicated, and has great leadership skills. Fitz is a gamer. We saw it last year. The team responds to him and plays for him. If the blocking can hold up, and if we can plug some holes on the defense we will win a few games this year. -
This is a sign of progress. Now look at the players that made big mistakes like Spiller and Edwards and you have to believe that they will learn and get better. We have a long way to go but today was a positve step.

He played very well. We may have found a player with this kid.
