Poz quoted in Wannstache interview
Bob in STL replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think you are right. Poz is the best of a horrible crew of LBs. I really think that last years LBs were the worst colletion in team history. -
how many of you that don't like us taking a corner at 3...

Very good points. In your 21 year view how many first round picks were QBs? I can think of only Losman (bust). How many were DL? How about Flowers (bust), McCargo (bust) and Maybin (bust so far). How many were OL? I can think of Fina (solid starter), Rueben Brown (Pro Bowler), Mike Williams (bust) and Eric Wood (solid starter). In 21 years and only 8 players taken in the first round from critical position QB, OL and DL. We can't find Kelly's replacement and we have hardly tried. -
Yes all teams need role players I agree with you there and I sure hope I am not too negative. I try to be realistic while still being a fan at heart. I know Corto is a home guy and all that but he did hurt us numerous times with bad and unnecessary penalties last season. I just do not see the great plays that he makes to warrant wrapping him up to a new contract before the season starts. Is he one of our better ST players? Sure. But this signing reminds me of the many gimmick signings made by an incompetent front office to make the fans feel good about something. Since I am a fan, I really hope Corto does great and becomes the next Steve Tasker. I want to rally behind Buddy Nix. Before I drink yet another gallon of KoolAid I want to see some solid drafting and some solid player signings. I like that he brought in Whaley. I like Gailey and Wannestadt. Wrapping up Corto and Kelsey, taking a flyer on Merriman, signing Cornell Green as our starting RT. Hmmmmm? Maybe some of the bargain basement waiver pickups (Urbik, Rhinehart, Pears, Wrotto, etc) will develop? Last years draft looks promising and I will patiently cheer them on while waitng to see some results.

Yeah, that's the problem, the uniforms.

The player I want to draft is Fairly. We need to stop the run and pressure the QB and he can do both. I would not mind drafting Peterson but the expectations are going to be that he becomes a Pro Bowl shut down corner. McGee is aging, McKelvin is inconsistent, Florence might be going, Corner is a decent backup, Youboty is always injured .... CB could be a need. This is a passing league. I do not agree on the pass rusher comment. I don't think they are easy to find in any round at least not for the Buffalo Bills. Since 1985 we drafted Bruce Smith and Aaron Schobel ... how many other great pass rushers can you name that were actually drafted by the Bills? -
Balogun will be picked up by Pittsburg and end up with 14 sacks next season.

Never liked the Titans, Bud Adams, or those crap uniforms.

More untimely special teams penalties to come ... I am underwhelmed by this guy.
-
To each his own. I love the white helmet and would be happy to see us return to that style. I always thought the red was too much. If you think the color and style of the uniforms translates into winning then we show go back to the 64 and 65 uni's which are considered our throwbacks. The new concept here is very close to those.

Report: Dolphins NT Soliai to hit open market
Bob in STL replied to Marshmallow's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We have a player like Kyle Williams who makes the Pro Bowl at DT and we have a solid rookie DT with good upside. We also have a project DT in the guy we picked up from Oakland. Now look at our OTs, ILBs and TEs. We have nothing. Tell me there is no better signing we could make and that makes me laugh. Who is our RT? If we could sign Soliali I would be happy for sure, however, if I were GM I would be targeting RT, ILB and TE. We have crappy talent in all three positions. -

Thank you. The guy is good but not better than what we have. Sign an ILB and a RT to plug two massive holes with proven veterans. Then we will have more options in the draft. -
That is what I thought when the Sabres went back to blue and gold ... and we got the SLUG.

How far are we from GB? do we need a QB?
Bob in STL replied to Poeticlaw's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We are 745 miles from Green Bay by car, much less if we fly. To beat them in football we will need better blockers and tacklers. That is what we should be drafting. -
Good post. If Nix is really happy with our current cast of OLBs then I am very concerned. To hear him talk about Urbik, Pears and Rhinehart he acts like he found the next Electric Company. Nix has a lot to prove as a GM, starting right now.

Greenbay had best draft
Bob in STL replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not sure I am an "Old Timer" but it is reasonable to say you need 3 years to fully evaluate a draft class and see who the solid starters are. Sure, Green Bay got production out of many of their rookies and that is needed today with free agency causing roster turnover every season. It seems easier for talented teams (New England, Pittsburg, Green Bay, Baltimore, etc) to plug in a rookie into a known and stable system. Buffalo has had chaos for a decade with revolving door of coaches, GMs, and schemes. The talent level on this team may be improving but is still very poor. Proof of this: 1. Listen to how high Nix is on Urbik, Pears and Rhinehart --- guys who could not get on the field on their previous teams. 2. Three of Buffalo's more productive rookies this year were not even drafted - Cordero Brown, David Nelson and Donald Jones all contributed. Yet is could be down the road that none of them will be solid starters for a playoff caliber team. The fact that Buffalo cannot consistenly find solid starters in the first three rounds of the draft is the number 1 reason why the talent on this team is so poor and unless this is corrected we will remain bottom feeders. -
No you are not being old fashion to voice your opinion. I don't even care if it sounds patriotic I just think the correct words would be nice. That was a horrible performance that literally drove me out of the room. Lots of people at work today talked about it and not one person liked it.

Rothlisberger & Rodgers could have been Bills
Bob in STL replied to BuffaloinLA's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Do we have to continually review all the bad trades and drafts from the past decade? This subject on the Losman trade has been discussed 100X. Donahoe traded up to get Losman because he thought Green Bay and other teams would have taken him. It turned out bad, like so many other draft day decisions for Buffalo. There was no opportunity to trade up to get Big Ben. Lets all agree to move forward. -
I think the future will be better, just a matter of getting better players. cheers!

With the 3rd Pick in the 2011 NFL Draft
Bob in STL replied to DasNootz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I always wonder about the reach word. Would Revis be a reach at 3? -
I have another idea ... lets start drafting some great football players that make the coaches we have look good.

I picked LB for our least talented position. The numbers our defense put up explain why. I really think that last years LBs were the worst collection of LBs ever in the history of the Buffalo Bills. Not one keeper in the bunch, maybe Moats will pan out, maybe. Second choice was close between DL and OT but I picked OT as second worst. The DL at least had one Pro Bowler (Williams) and two good prospects (Troup and Carrington). At OT we have Bell who I consider average at best. I really do not like him as a run blocker, he did ok most of the time as a pass blocker. He is not a top tier LT. At RT we have nothing. Howard is a guard. Wrotto is a backup at best. Pears? who knows? Wang is a developmental player. Who to draft? I will leave that to the experts. They need to draft these three positions (LB, OT, DL) as a priority. Nix also needs to bring in a few good veterans via free agency or this rebuild will take a loooong time. Final note: Our TE talent is crap too. TE is in need of an upgrade.

Thanks for the great video. Seen it before but I can always watch it again. That was one tough team in 1964. Best Bills defense ever was in 64 and 65. EVER.
