  1. True but Lofton did not contribute much until the following year. (in 1989 he played 12 games, 8 catches, 3 for TD.)
  2. I prefer to have Merriman, Kelsey and Kyle Williams in the mix. Lots of youth and speed but that also means mistakes, overpursuit, missed assignments. Not to mention a talent drop off.
  3. So I guess you missed the whole point on what Davis is doing for Sheppard?
  4. His benching in preseason was one of three things: a. A kick in the azz to bring him to the realization of his talent b. An excuse to see Rhinhart play with the first unit. c. both of the above I'll will pick c.
  5. FG? I would have ran another quick count QB sneak. Wood was a monster and Fitz is reliable and tough enough to get the job done. Since you are at the mercy if the zebras spotting the ball, you really need to have a positive push on the LOS. Wood and Urbik could get it.
  6. Great thoughts in any order. I saw Wood blast a lot of people yesterday and yes, Hairston looks like a mauler. Playing over our heads? Yes, I would say so but they expect to win because their coach told them he expects them to win. Setting high expectations is the first step towards achievment.
  7. Inside tackles do not usually put up great numbers, their job is to eat up space and blockers. Stats aside, Kyle has played very well and the middle of our defense has been solid. Watch the game closer and you will see he creates pressure and swallows up blockers. Kyle is a fantastic player that EVERY team would love to have and that opposing coaches account for. He is one of our best players. Berman talks about how the Bills are getting strong uo the middle on both sides of the ball and he is right. Williams is one big positive on this team.
  8. Lets not forget that Vick cranked up 500+ yards against San Fransico and lost the week before. There were so many plays that the Bills defense covered well and then Vick made big yardage by either moving in the pocket and buying time, or running the ball himself. Take away those plays, plays that few QBs can consistently make, and the numbers get a bit better. Sure, our defense needs work but the game is changing and more teams are piling up big yardage every week.
  9. Fans in Toronto? Just as knowledgeable? Please. Our game against Miami up there was practically a road game. That place is a morgue. Now that the Bills are playing well amd winning so I guess they are easier to love. I look at this game and it hurts to see us playing a very good team like Washington on a nuetral site. The Ralph is once again becoming a scary place for visitors and I hate to see us wasting a home game.
  10. I was a huge critic of the OL in the off season. I am still concerned about the depth but so far RG Rhinhart filled in nicely for Urbik, and the rookie Hairston held up well at LT in place of Bell. They are getting it done so far. kudos
  11. This team could very well fade out and the naysayers will have their day. Right now we have a team that plays to win and I love it. They played hard last year when they started 0-8 and they continue to play hard while they are winning. Things have turned because they make more big plays. Trent Dilfer said today that the Bils play "clean football", meaning they execute their gameplan with few mistakes or turnovers. He said they are well coached. I think he is right. Talentwise they are not an elite team but they are improving and getting better. The people calling for the firing of the DC (Edwards) are clueless. This will not help anything. We have Wannstedt on the staff and if you folks think he is not involved you are crazy. He is not going to take a backseat to Edwards. Wanny is doing evertything he can to help, he is a competitor and he is the ASSISTANT HC - meaning he outranks Edwards in the organization and is responsible for the defense. Next week is a very tough road game. It will be a challenge. Go Bills!
  12. Ok. We aren't perfect, not even close. We could be 1-4 but we are not, we are 4-1. I have been wacthing football a very looooonnnng time. Take the plays when you make them. Take the wins when you get them. We have sucked for too long to worrry about sytle pionts. Lets build a winning attitude ... EXPECT to win and you will. This years Bills are not going to steam roll to the playoffs, they will struggle to get there, they might not get there. Ok? You can enjoy the wins or not. Your choice.
  13. I have seen it work about 3 times in the last 45 years or so. Fitzy had a great hard count.
  14. George was great today. He is a leader on this team and it showed today.
  15. Best --- Says who? I thought they had an NFC bias. I thought they dwelled on plays that were long past and I thought they missed key points on key plays. Not impressed.
  16. We went over this last week and the week before. 1. Wannstedt is involved, he is the assistant HC for crying out loud, he outranks Edwards. 2. We are what we are on defense. Schemes will always be figured out .. sometimes by halftime, sometimes longer. 3. Thank God for the turnovers that we get ---- we get them because we play hard and we play clean (clean as in follow assignments and don't make mental errors). Look at the Packers and Petriots defense ... they are not juggernauts either. We will get better on defense. We are 4-1. Be Happy.
  17. You bet. A win is always good. To all the whiners that want every game to be the Kansas City game --- The defense has a number of weaknesses, we knew that going into the season. The offense is ok but no way they are going to maintian the pace of the first three games. Same with Fitz. Fitz has an average arm with above average ability to read defenses and see things. He is not going to make all the throws all the time. What I like about the team is that we find a way. That is huge. Yet, people still complain. Michael Vick is one of the best players in the game today, he was going to get his big plays. We won. Enjoy it.
  18. Look at the whole league. We are a good team and like EVERY SINGLE OTHER TEAM and JUST ABOUT EVERY GAME in the NFL our games are decided by a few key plays. We made more plays and less mistakes, therefore, we won.
  19. It would have been nice to have the $$$ to go to St. Joes or Canisius. At the time Kenmore East was just fine for me.
  20. Yes - One of the dunmbest quotes from the aloof one. He turned down a job in the NFL, this means he does not want to play anymore.
  21. Al Davis - One of the great stories in the game. He did everything, scout, coach, manage, and own. As AFL commisioner, before the merger agreement, he looked the NFL square in the eye and they flinched first. RIP.
  22. You guys and your schemes. You need some great players to have a great defense. Somebody has to make the plays, you cannot count on the coaches to put peopel in the exact right spot on every play. We have one guy, Dareus, that looks like a potential difference maker type of player. Next we have Kyle and Jarius that both are very good players. After that we have a lot of average starters and a few are below average. Compare the players Wanny had on Dallas to what we have to today? He had the best 8 DL's any team has ever assembled at one time.
  23. Says who? You can run the spread in any weather. I have seen spread offense carve up defenses in the winter. Bad footing favors the offense. We have a two back offense with the FB, we just have not used it much other than short yardage goal line. We also have the Brad Smith alignment which has also been used for short yardage. The Bills have good diversity in their alignments. Having a second TE that can block and catch would be nice.
