Curtis Samuel Turf Toe, Other Injury Updates
JohnNord replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall
I’m old enough to remember when it was a certainty that the 2023 Bills were going to lose to Dallas, Kansas City and Miami to finish 8-9 -

Maybe it was adequate because Diggs was so good. There were a lot of question marks going into 2023 about WR. The data proved that Gabe Davis was occasionally effective but overall inconsistent. Shakir looked decent but didn’t always look like a starter. Then you had a bunch of other guys. He did little to address the position and instead drafted Dalton Kincaid. He’s been a good pick though I feel WR should have been a higher priority. -

I think there’s two positional groups that you can really criticize Beane about - DE and WR. You can point to both groups as being the reason why the team has stalled in the post season. The lack of investment in WR seems to be rearing its ugly head. Additions were limited to undervalued FA’s and mid-to-low round draft picks. Now they are going to be in a position where they need to find a WR1. It’s either going to take a huge chunk of cap space or a high draft pick. DE was not for lack of trying. Beane invested a lot of cap space and draft picks in the position and nothing really hit on a grand scale. If Rosseau is going to look like he did Sunday every week - that could change. -

Samuel is going to be fine. -
If you could get a day 2 pick for Cook would you pull the trigger…

Probably not because it still leaves a big at RB this season. But it is a good reminder that you might not need to spend significant money on the Rb position -
No you can’t. If you cut them they are subject to waivers and many times draft picks are claimed by other teams. Veteran players are not subject to waivers and can sign with whatever team/PS they want.

w What if your truck hadn’t passed inspection for 17 years?

Not so sure it was humility w/ Ralph. He didn’t like spending his money
-
He had a RAS score of 9.36 out 10. Speed and athleticism definitely is not a problem. I think he’s like Dorian Williams in the sense that he can get fooled by misdirection leaving him out of paint on to make tackles. Still it was very encouraging to see his performance last night.

Most of the Bills' injuries have been on defense...Why is that?
JohnNord replied to mannc's topic in The Stadium Wall
It’s really not that unusual in the NFL. I’ve seen the “intelligent” fans on Twitter blame strength and conditioning. I’m positive it isn’t that or else all 5 of the Bills offensive lineman took every snap last season - a damn near anomaly. IMO it’s a lot of randomness and bad luck. Last season, it was extreme bad luck with all the injuries at linebacker and WR - positions that the Bills already had limited depth at. Football always has been a game of attrition. If you have the good luck to stay healthy, it’s a big advantage in the post season. If you can’t…like most teams…the ones that win usually find ways to overcome losses. Cincinnati had done a good job for a few post seasons as has Kansas City last year who lost an All-Pro in Joe Thuney in the game against the Bills. -
LOL yes

What this is telling me is that any WR not named Shakir, Samuel, Johnson or Hollins have a good chance at not making the roster.

The drops last season were killers and they continue to be baffling. Cook was known as having “great hands” coming out of college
-
I remember in 2017, Sal Capaccio said that Nathan Peterman is “going to have a long NFL career.” He specified it might not be as a starter but that he’s the type of QB that sticks around in the NFL. Six years later he seems to be on the way to being spot on.
-
A lot of analysts had him as the top QB in the draft. Even Jeremy White on WGR was pining for “Money Mitch.” There were questions about him as pro - as there were about other highly rated QB’s in DeShaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes. Trubisky has a pretty good season in 2018 and there was reason for optimism but he peaked in Year 2.
-
If Tannehill was willing to accept a backup job and salary, he likely would be on a roster now. The problem is that he wants to start and/or make more than the typical backup QB. If Allen or any top NFL QB gets injured, maybe it changes. To be honest, you’re not going to be find such better at QB2 than Trubisky at this point. I like Tommy Devito and think NYG is cutting him. But is he that much better than Mitch? Does it really matter though? Bennett threw a game winning TD pass against the bottom of the Dallas roster. Take that out and he had a pretty lousy game. Give him all the snaps in the world and he still likely won’t be a great QB Also Joe Milton has played 1 preseason game against 2nd/3rd stringers that didn’t game plan against him. How can you say Bills could contend with him a QB….SMH Seem like a pretty reactionary take.

Predict what positional groups are better/worse in 2024?
JohnNord replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
WR is a tough one. In a vacuum, Diggs is still the best WR on the team. In Brady’s offense he won’t get the volume he had in the past, and his skills have also declined a bit. Let’s say he’s a top 20 WR. I think a player like Curtis Samuel overall is just as good as a Gabe Davis, and Shakir seems to on his way to a better season in 2024. The bottom of the WR room with Johnson, Hollins, and maybe Shavers are an upgrade over Sherfield, Harty, and Isabella. So overall the WR is a little worse overall due to the lack of a high end talent at WR. But Id argue the bottom of the WR is an upgrade. -
No… the player in coverage is Jaylon Jones #21. Not Jaylon Johnson #1. Jones is his backup
-
This was one of my biggest takeaways as well. For players on the roster bubble this was a huge opportunity. And yet, I’d argue none of them did anything to help their standing (I.e. MVS, Shavers, Isabella, Shorter, Morris, Hamler, Davidson, Collins, Clapp) The first team did fine pass blocking. The interior just couldn’t get any movement in the run game. I’m not too worried because the same thing happened last preseason. Bills were fine with rushing the ball
-
Seemed to me like the contact/hold of the jersey was why he couldn’t get up higher to make the catch.
-
I thought that Mitch Trubisky was a sizable upgrade over Kyle Allen. Now it looks like more of a wash. Mitch is more physically gifted but some of the throws today…woof
-
Fair… I watched it again and it look like Mitch sailed it on him. He was open.
-
I thought Shane Buechele and Joe Andressen were the worst players on the field by far. It was funny watching the broadcast and hearing Tasker gush all over him for being the hometown kid, meanwhile he’s out of position on almost every play.

Last season the OL looked worse in the first preseason game against Pittsburgh. The same game when it appeared that Kenny Pickett would be a contender to win MVP. That statement alone says a lot! What’s more disappointing is that a number of backup players had a chance to step up and make plays and failed: MVS - 2 drops Shavers - 1 big drop Q Morris - lost balance and fell when adjusting for an end zone pass Hamler - fumbled a kickoff Isabella - false start Kingsley Jonathan - Offside penalty The entire 2nd and 3rd OL unit- pure crap Even players like Shane Buechele and Joe Andreesen may have played themselves off the roster with bad performances today. Not a good day at all but this game is meaningless
