It’s true 90% of the time. The difference is that Garrett has already earned over $120M in his NFL career. You’d think a veteran like Garrett might trade a couple millions if it meant winning a Lombardi Hendrickson is the only difference maker but he won’t get the contract he wants at 36.

The Garrett situation is a bit different. Watt and Hopkins said “I want to win a Super Bowl and my team isn’t serious about winning.” They actually left for OTHER teams. Garrett said the same thing about winning SB’s, also specified that it wasn’t about money for him and said he took his time making the decision, only to re-sign for money! It was probably a wise business decision for Garrett but a bad one for his legacy and also one that makes him look like a hypocrite. Oh well, when the Browns are in the basement of the AFC, at least Garrett can roll around in money pile

I have no problem with a player like Garrett taking the contract but it makes him look like a hypocrite when he asked for trade and said it’s about winning a Super Bowl and not about money. He ain’t winning ***** in Cleveland over the next few season. It’s ALL about the money. He looks like a huge hypocrite

It’s easy to look at the result of Von’s career in Buffalo and say this move was a bust - but the process was solid. It all fell apart when he blew his ACL. When Von was active before Thanksgiving 2022, the defense was getting home with 4 and looked great. If you’re someone who wants a Trey Henrickson this season, you can’t criticize this move. No you don’t - go watch the last Baltimore TD drive. You don’t want Solomon getting those reps

I did not think Brown did anything overly impressive since returning this season. He was fine but didn’t look like an $11M WR. Maybe it was injury related?

I haven’t watched a ton of Staley but he doesn’t seem to be as dominant as some of the better tackles in the NFL - including a player like Dion Dawkins.

I think the chances to get Garrett, Hendrickson, or Sweat were slim from to start. Now with the Rosseau on the books, there’s less money available down the line for their contracts. I think a more ideal move is acquiring a mid-level DE like a Landry or Mack and then to improve the DL. I wouldn’t mind the Reed move, I just see them signing a vet and drafting a rookie to compete at CB2

What impact player do you think they’ll sign? Because most of the DE’s will command upwards of $20 million per season and the new contracts kick in next season

I don’t disagree at all. I’m just trying to guess what will happen based on Beane’s past practices to roster building. I think Mack or Landry could be a possibility, and yes they would help, but those guys are not level that a Garrett or Hendrickson are at. I don’t see them being the difference makers that Beane and McDermott spoke of. That’s my concern. Rosseau has been consistently solid overall and excellent against the run. I think that continues but I just don’t see him taking that big of a step forward as a pass rusher. Maybe upgrading the middle of the DL unlocks him?

Right but when has Beane had 2 players in a position group making Top 5 and Top 20 money? I wouldn’t rule out adding another DE, I just don’t think it will be the names fans were hoping for like Garrett, Hendrickson, Sweat that would command a big deal

Right, it gives you money for this season but not beyond. Hendrickson or Sweat will want new contracts that will kick in at the same time Groot’s will. Hendrickson won’t facilitate a trade a team that isn’t prepared to give him a new. Myles Garrett won’t either It’s a lot of cap space to allocate to one position. I don’t see it happening but we will have to wait and see.

How so? Let’s say that you sign Trey Hendrickson. He’s likely going to want a new 3-4 year deal before being traded. If you’re Buffalo will you allocate $40M+ on your two DE’s? Probably not. They’ll still add at EGDE I just don’t think it will be an impact player like we all had been hoping for.

I wasn’t crazy to see this deal because it likely means Buffalo isn’t coming away with a Myles Garrett type player. I like Rosseau, I just don’t think he’s ever going to be in the top tier of difference makers at DE. Beane is clearly banking on potential with this signing and reminds me a lot Ed Oliver a few years back.

It always seems like a Chiefs WR under Andy Reid finds themselves in legal trouble. Other than Tyreek, it’s not like Rice or Worthy had red flags.

Agents love to blow smoke and spin the truth. I love how when a veteran is signed late in the offseason, it’s always because he was being very selective in choosing the right deal from “multiple teams.”

Yeah I get what you are saying but you can’t afford to have an entire roster of “great” players. My problem is when they re-sign a good player for great money. This is why they were reluctant with Edmunds and likely will be Rosseau. You are argue they did this with Dawson Knox. Both of the Shakir and Bernard’s contracts were reasonable in my opinion. I think they fit in well with what the team wants to do on offense and defense. I do think that Buffalo figures out a way to get Benford and Cook to re-sign. I’d predict that Rosseau is gone unless he puts up a monster numbers

We debated about which of the 5 remaining players to re-sign but IMO played this perfectly by getting Shakir and Bernard re-signed. If worst comes to worst, Buffalo can’t afford to franchise tag Shakir or Bernard. While good neither player is worth the franchise tag contract at $24M and $25M respectively. You can make an argument to justify tagging Benford ($20M), Rosseau ($22M) and especially Cook ($13M) I’d expect Benford to get re-signed next though. I don’t think Rosseau gets a new deal this season. Maybe Cook at more reasonable terms.
