I feel by the end of the 3rd season you should have a good idea whether your draft picks fit into the team’s future. Last year, we weren’t 100% certain on Josh. I remember thinking that by the end of year 3, we had to know whether Josh was the franchise QB. If we weren’t sure, chances are he is not. The same can’t be said about Edmunds. He’s had a few nice plays but has struggled for most of the year. We don’t know if the issue is his DL or if he’s just not cut out of be a MLB in a 4-3. To me, he’s in Shaq Lawson territory but the difference is the same administration drafted him. My impression is that Edmunds is not good enough. Not physical enough in the run game and not a enough of a difference maker versus the pass. The Bills really need to take a close look at him. Oliver has flashed more than Edmunds IMO. He also has 1 less year. By the end of next year we should know where we stand with Oliver.

Like most facets of the game, redzone offense was disappointing

Kenny Stills, Dane Jackson elevated from PS
JohnNord replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It was in an article. A good profile from Tyler Dunne on Isaiah McKenzie. I’m guessing if Stills didn’t look good, he wouldn’t be elevated ”Earlier this season, he was Tyreek Hill. And Jamison Crowder. And he always tears it up. He always tries to “destroy them every chance I get.” Of course, it wouldn’t be such a bad thing to be himself once in a while. Maybe the coaches are just trying to keep his legs fresh but, this week, there was a sign of hope. Kenny Stills played the role of Hill in practice. Not McKenzie.” -

Yes I believe so -
Frazier a “Serious Candidate” for Texans HC gig.
JohnNord replied to whatdrought's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
At the same time he’s 61 years old and he’s waited a decade for a second opportunity. Time is running out so it’s not like he can be selective. But yeah if it’s a situation he feels he can’t make work, then he should stay away -

Stills was Tyreek Hill in practice. They must have gotten a good look at him this week and liked what they saw. If Davis can’t go tomorrow, I see the Bills drawing up a few plays for him I think he’s insurance for Davis- 101 replies

IMO this is a great sign. He would be the clam and collected voice to get that team through the chaos. I just hope he brings in a good mind at OC -
Deshaun Watson prefers the Jets
JohnNord replied to BuffaloBills1998's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A lot of people close to the situation doubt that Houston will make the trade. They have also shared the challenges that a team will have that trades for Watson. You inherit a franchise QB contract but have no draft capital to put talent around him for several years. Essentially it’s the same situation as Houston this year. If Houston hires a coach like Bienenemy, Frazier, or whoever else I can see them talking DeShaun into playing. A lot can happen -
McDaniels was a disaster in Denver but he was younger and less experienced that Patricia. Also Denver was an 8-8 team when he took over. He went 8-8 again and then had a terrible year. Patricia took over a decent Lions team who was either a WC team or came close to a playoff spot. They couldn’t get over the “one and done” hump and Patricia was supposed to take them to the next level. Instead he never won more than 6 games. He also made some real dumb comments to the media. I don’t see Patricia getting a HC shot anytime soon, but who knows?

Justin Zimmer...unsung defensive hero?
JohnNord replied to umangatan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I watched the relay of the Bills-Baltimore game on the Cover 1 Youtube channel. He did a tremendous job following Lamar in the pocket so that he couldn’t escape. It’s a role that very few would notice and will not show up on the stat sheet, but from the few plus I saw when he was in, he did a great job -
He stint in Detroit was such a disaster, I’d be surprised if he ever gets another HC shot

Correct but I think that it’s more than that....Mahomes was drafted into perhaps, the best possible situation in the NFL While many teams were high on him, he was not a “can’t miss” QB in the way that many project a Trevor Lawrence to be. He had actually shared a lot of similarities with Allen as a college QB - the difference being his experience and statistics. Either way, many believed that Mahomes was a raw prospect and needed to sit for some time. KC had a luxury where they could sit him. Mahomes had the chance to be mentored by one of the smartest QB’s in Alex Smith and one of the offensive minds in Any Reid. He also was around OC Matt Nagy (and Eric Bienemy to a lesser extent) for his rookie year - again another good offensive mind. When Mahomes was ready to start he stepped into an great offense with some All-Pro weapons. I would argue that Buffalo in 2017 would not have been a great situation with OC Rick Dennison and QB Coach David Culley. Plus, he could’ve been pressed into duty before he was ready plying behind Tyrod. Then there are those terrible weapons. So you have to consider - would Patrick Mahomes in KC be the same QB in Buffalo? I think it’s fair to say by the 3rd year there’s a good chance he becomes a great QB - but the question is how much better does he become than what Allen has been at the end of his 3rd season? We’ll never know but I don’t think it’s a certainty that some in the media are portraying it as, which is what makes this such a futile talking point IMO

I have to say I heard the article and I really like Marcel’s angle.
-
To me, this is such a flawed “debate.” Only because we have no idea whether Mahomes is the same player in Buffalo that he became in KC. If you could guarantee Mahomes is the same exact QB then of course, they’d take him. He’d probably be the #1 pick.

This week's coffee with the Bills

Man Tre is hilarious. -
I was actually thinking the same thing about ESPN. Once Wright and Cowherd did the whole Pinto Ron challenge thing, you knew that it was a gimmick. I’m guessing it was planned out by one of the producers as a way to build synergy and cross promote both FS1 programs. When Wright does the Pinto Ron challenge thing, you know that will probably set record ratings for his show...of course the rating will still be small - but still.

Nick Wright sucks but he’s exposed so many Bills fans as marks. He got a huge reaction from Bills fans for talking bad about Allen and he went with it. I’ve actually never heard of Nick Wright before his rants on Allen and I know many others are in the same boat. He’s basically a WWE wrestler telling the crowd how they are fat, ugly, and stupid, in hopes that they’ll tune in or buy a ticket to get his ass kicked. When he is proven wrong, he’ll continue to lie This seems to be a popular tactic from Fox Sports, as Colin Cowherd and Skip Bayless do the same thing. No one really watches FS1, so I guess you have to resort to baiting the fan base.

I think this is reading way too much into the situation. There’s no evidence or reports to suggest that Daboll was distracted. Also, Leslie Frazier ends up putting together one of his best game plans ever as a DC - on the eve of his first interview with Houston. In fact many theorists out there believed that Texans GM Nick Caserio was only interviewing Leslie to distract him from game planning at the behest of his good college buddy (John Carrol University) Greg Roman. Personally I think a number of factors were in play including the fact that the Baltimore defense might not be a great matchup for our offense. I’m just glad we escaped with a W

I think the Bills reluctance toward running was heavily influenced by the previous week and how well they took care of Darrick Henry. Part of Tennessee’s downfall was there decision to continually slam into the DL. Like you said, this seems to have been the Bills defensive blueprint the last time they played KC - they dared the Chiefs to run the ball an Andy Reid did it. Based on McDermott’s comments, it doesn’t seem likely that this continues next week.

QBs with fewer than 2 playoff wins
JohnNord replied to Bleeding Bills Blue's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think it’s another positive stat but like you said, it’s more of a team stat. Blake Bortles also has 2 playoff wins
