Training Camp Buzz: Zach Ertz 'not happy' at Eagles camp
JohnNord replied to Bobby Hooks's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I get the impression that Roseman is overplaying his hand with Ertz. He’s coming off his worst season ever and teams are probably skeptical to give up for 3rd or 4th for him. -
Bills Defining Moments The 2015 Season
JohnNord replied to corta765's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The week 2 game against NE was supposed to be the moment Rex changed the fortunes for the Buffalo. Instead it was the first sign that there were some major flaws with his defense. What I’ll always remember was how confused the secondary was - notably Stephon Gilmore. There’s a few deep TD throws that Brady completes to Chris Hogan who absolutely burned Gilmore - the CB that some fans were touting as best in the league. It’s unclear whether he simply got beat or whether his help didn’t arrive but Gilmore physically would gesture and point to his teammates on the field to suggest “you blew that coverage…not me.” He’d do this multiple times throughout his career. I feel that Gilmore’s struggles in Rex’s defense and his poor reactions led to a lot of resentment from the fan base. EJ was staring down the defender….not the reciever! -
He’s a camp body that might get a few of the snaps that Hollister will miss over the next week or so. If the injury was serious, they wouldn’t be signing the Bug. He’s not making the team Bug Howard is your grandson?

It’s remarkable to see how the talent level has risen over the past few season. There’s several positions now where good players are going to get cut and then signed immediately onto other NFL rosters

Jake Kumerow… make the team or trade to GB?
JohnNord replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Hodgins upside and versatility will give him the edge. I don’t see Kumerow making this roster and he won’t last on the practice squad again, so if they could flip him for a pick I’d take that -
The annual QB Rankings were released in an article from The Athletic. For the rankings 50 NFL coaches and execs place starting QB’s into 5 different tiers. Josh Allen was their 6th highest rated QB and the highest member of Tier 2. He fell just out of Tier 1 with the biggest knock on him being sustainability and fumbles. He actually received 20 Tier 1 votes which puts him just outside of that level. Overall he received 20 Tier 1 votes and 30 Tier 2 votes. The next closest was DeShaun Watson who edged him with 26 Tier 1 votes, 23 Tier 2 votes, and 1 Tier 3 vote!. You can read the full analysis in the links below: 2021 NFL Quarterback Tiers: 50 coaches and evaluators rank the league’s starters https://theathletic.com/2727336/2021/07/28/2021-nfl-quarterback-tiers-50-coaches-and-evaluators-rank-the-leagues-starters/?source=user_shared_article A lot of positive comments on Allen. Here’s what the skeptical GM and Coaches had to say: For those interested, the Tier 1 QB’s along with the vote count were: 1. Aaron Rogers (50) 2. Patrick Mahomes (50) 3. Tom Brady (41,9) 4. Russell Wilson (40,10) 5. DeShaun Watson (26,23,1)

Duke should definitely be part of the WR's this year
JohnNord replied to LB48's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No doubt. The entire game was a huge opportunity for Duke. Athletes wait forever for a chance like that and unfortunately he didn’t deliver. If he plays well it’s odd to think how things could have been different going into 2020 -
Who will the Bills miss most this season?
JohnNord replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Was he really though? He had a few nice returns in Buffalo but other times he brought the ball out of the endzone and ended up getting stuffed deep inside Bills territory. That seemed to be a strategy for other teams - just kick the ball in the endzone because Roberts likely won’t make it to the 25. It was also telling how in 2 season in Buffalo he never broke a punt or kickoff for a TD. Don’t get me wrong, he’s still a good at kickoff returns, but I’m not sure he’ll be missed as much as some here -
Any word on Burton and Hooker as potential FA possibilities?
JohnNord replied to Wizard's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Button seems like he’s on the downside of his career. The Bills want to give most of the TE snaps to Knox and Hollister. I think they are good with Tommy Sweeney or Reggie Gillian at the 3rd TE spot. Adding a player like Burton doesn't make much sense -
Duke should definitely be part of the WR's this year
JohnNord replied to LB48's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think he’s got a chance to catch on with a roster but it probably won’t be the Bills. Yes he’s big and physical and but like you said he’s not fast and struggles with getting separation. He’s known for having great hands and making contested catches but when he had a chance against Houston last season, he didn’t deliver -
Vic Carucci retiring from Buffalo News
JohnNord replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Always loved Vic….it seems to me that he still loves covering football but that his gig with BN wasn’t worth the amount of time he was spending on the job. He can still talk football on a p/t level through Sirius and WGRZ and make some decent money for limited hours. He can also spend more time at home -
Seahawks game on NFL network Jacob Hollister
JohnNord replied to Dave in Avon Lake now's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
TBH I thought he made a few very nice catches when the Bills played Seattle this year. One reason I’m kind of guarded about him is that he was signed pretty late in FA. Usually there’s a reason players for players not getting signed earlier -
Agree with everything you said, the only difference is that I view him in more of negative light due to the product he put on the field.

I always thought that Ralph has somewhat of a complicated legacy because when you look at Ralph the person he did some great things for WNY. When you look at Ralph as the football owner he was not very good for most of his tenure. Where it gets complicated is that you can’t take one part and not the other. So you can’t say he should be celebrated as owner for his charity and keeping the team in Buffalo without recognizing the immense damage he did to the franchise for nearly 2 decades toward the end of his tenure. You also can’t say he was a terrible owner without recognizing that there might not be a football team in Buffalo otherwise. One thing is for certain though - the drought years which were the darkest and most frustrating time for most Bills fans of the modern generation were 110% Ralph’s fault. His stubbornness, ignorance and overall incompetence did a lot of damage to the franchise. Perhaps it’s his generosity to local colleges and charities, but I feel many often dance around the elephant in the room.

There’s a reason why NYJ got rid of him, why he couldn’t get on the field in KC, and why he’s currently a FA going into July. Since leaving Pittsburgh he has yet to rush for over 100 yards in any game. I really think he’s a few steps too slow from what he used to be and that he greatly benefited from the offensive system/OL in Pittsburgh. The year away for football at the peak of his career probably hurt a bit as well. On paper it would like signing him would be a huge move based into he back that he was, but I’m hardly convinced that he’s better than Moss or Singletary in their 3rd and 2nd years respectively. I’m actually not convinced he would be the best RB on ANY roster in the NFL. In the end, the Bills may have gotten lucky by not signing him
-
I wouldn’t say he’s the best. At one time you might be able to say he was. There’s names on that list that I would take over a heathy Gilmore

A closer look at Boogie Basham
JohnNord replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Basham excels at 3TDT then the Bills are really going to have an interesting situation when Ed Oliver’s rookie deal is up. -
I was listening to OBD yesterday and started thinking about Steve Tasker’s career. How do you explain his brief career resurgence as an offensive weapon during the 1995 and 1996 seasons? At that time Tasker was a special teams who rarely played on offense. So little that he never had double digits receptions. He also was about 33 years old at that time and his best years physically were behind him. Yet he became a solid contributor on that Bills as a kick returner, receiver and even an effective rusher on reverses. While he was never a star, you can argue that he was the difference maker in a playoff win versus Miami. I know there is a story of Jim Kelly lobbying to use Tasker on offense, only to get shot down by Marv and Bruce DeHaven. I was never sure if that was entirely true or just and exaggeration. Either way, why do you think Tasker was had these blips after hardly ever playing offense in his previous 12 years in the NFL?
