Goodbye to Marcel Louis-Jacques, Hello Alaina Getzenberg
JohnNord replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They live in Buffalo to cover all practices, local press conferences, and home games etc. Marcel lived in downtown Buffalo -
Maybe if you leave early. The traffic near and around the stadium is ridiculous

Tyrod Taylor named Texans starting QB vs. Jags Week 1
JohnNord replied to Freddie's Dead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Perhaps there’s a recency bias with the fan base and Tyrod. Rather than remembering him as the scrambling QB throwing bombs against the Jets in 2016, fans remember his as the boring QB who was the poor fit in Rick Dennison’s offense with a bad supporting cast -

I don’t get it. Moving on from Tyrod was the right thing for so many reasons, especially considering the 3rd round draft pick they go in return. Again, who perceived Tyrod as a loser? Most Bills fans have him accurately pegged as a game manager/backup As simple as this 👆 -

Not with me. I thought Bledsoe was a flop. -

Can someone explain this tweet to me? Is it to suggest that the Bills did Tyrod wrong? -
Tyrod Taylor named Texans starting QB vs. Jags Week 1

Like most fans I loved Tyrod and hoped he was the answer at QB. But by the end of 2017, it was clear he was more of a game manager when the Bills needed a franchise QB. There seems to be a lot of revisionist history on Twitter about Tyrod and that he doesn’t get the same accolades that other Bills players do - namely Ryan Fitzpatrick. The story is spun to the point that many are saying that Tyrod should get credit for breaking the playoff drought. Sorry but I can’t buy that. Its very clear to me why fans don’t speak of Tyrod as highly as do with Fitz: - The Bills teams with Fitz as QB were overachievers. They were supposed to be bottom feeders but Fitz’s competitiveness made them below average. Thank the Rex, Tyrod’s team was positioned as a contender. They underperformed. - Fitzpatrick is a YOLO QB who is very exciting to watch. Big highs and big low. Tyrod is very conservative as a passer and not as fun. - Fitz has an outgoing humorous personality. Many press conferences deliver awesome sound bytes. Tyrod is quiet and humble, which make it harder for fans to latch onto. - Fitzpatrick has had some success after his stint in Buffalo and routinely gives fans props. Tyrod, not so much. So all in all, it’s not surprise why there seems to be more fondness for Fitz than Tyrod as ex-QB’s. With that being said, I do hope fans give Tyrod a great ovation when he returns to Buffalo. He was never the right QB for the team but he was also placed in some pretty bad situations -
No matter where you park, it’s an absolute clusterf@@k trying to get leave. IMO the worst part about the leaving the game. You can expect your commute home to be tripled in length

He dropped off fast. All-Pro in 1988, average in 1989, to below average in 1990. I always wondered what would have happened had Polian brought in legit competition for Norwood after his pedestrian 1989 season. Back then teams seemed to be less proactive with personnel moves so and gave players more time. The fact that Brad Daluiso was the KOS was a pretty big indictment of Norwood’s declining ability.
-
This is the game when I knew Scott Norwood was finished as a Buffalo Bill. He nearly lost this game on multiple occasions. He declined quickly after 1988 - to the point that having him kick 47 yarder on grass in SB25 was probably less than 50/50. To his credit he did make a big kick in the playoffs, but it was clear that at this point he was a liability for the team

Article: Will Josh Allen regress in 2021?
JohnNord replied to JohnNord's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I feel this article has been written so many different times over the past 4 years. The problem with using historical NFL data to predict performance is that Allen is such a unique athlete in terms of traits, experience, and now organizational continuity. First he was going to be Jarmarcus Russell, then Blake Bortles, then Mitch Trubisky, now Jared Goff and Carson Wentz. We’ve seen that his career has not followed the patterns of any QB’s he’s been compared to. At least not yet. -
Matthew Fairburn recently wrote an article exploring whether Josh Allen would regress next year. He tried to explore a number of different statistics and Next-Gen stars to contemplate whether Allen is poised to regress next year. His takeaway was that he expects to see a small regression, as it might be hard for Allen to duplicate the numbers from his monster 2020 season, but that it’s unlikely he returns to his 2019 form. According to him, Josh is likely to fall between his performance in 2019 and 2020. The article isn’t necessarily negative, but it questions whether we should expect the improvement we’ve seen the past two year. This seems to make sense but what makes it hard to evaluate Josh is that he’s unlike any other QB prospect over the past 2 decades or so. There really aren’t any comps for Allen - at least in his first 3 seasons. Last year the talk was about how few QB’s improved in their 3rd season, and why most plateau in their 2nd year. To add to the complexity, it’s rare to find a situation where a QB (especially in the first 3 seasons) to retain nearly all of his coaching staff and offensive personnel. While the outlook is sensible, Allen has always found a way of falling outside the data-driven projections from analysts. Let’s hope it happens again in 2021! https://theathletic.com/2798162/2021/09/06/will-buffalo-bills-quarterback-josh-allen-regress-in-2021/?source=user_shared_article

Josh Norman signing with 49ers

I love what Josh Norman did for Buffalo last year but at this point, he’s not a very good player. -
Jim Kelly Was Better Than Brady Imo..
JohnNord replied to Billsfanatic8989's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It’s really hard to compare because of the era’s they played in. If Kelly played in 2021 he’d put up crazy numbers but then again, so would his contemporaries like Marino, Montana, Moon etc I will say this - if you can stomach Super Bowl there was so much pass interference and roughing the passer plays which weren’t called. At the time the non-calls were extremely questionable, today they would be egregious -

Per Nick Wright: Bills will be a fringe contender.
JohnNord replied to Leonitas's topic in The Stadium Wall
That’s exactly what he’s doing. Then he’ll take his social media analytics to his bosses and saying “look at these engagement numbers - I’m on fire!” I think initially he doubted Josh Allen and once he realized he got a lot of attention he doubled down on it -
This was answered in the media [edit: by NFL's chief medical officer Dr. Allen Stills] the other when Bill Belichick put forth the same argument. Your chances of getting COVID are 7 times less if you are vaccinated. Also if unvaccinated, close contacts have to sit for 5 days. Vaccinated players do not. So if a player test positive for COVID on Friday, any unvaccinated close contacts are not able to play Sunday - even if they test negative There’s no doubt a competitive advantage for vaccinated players and the NFL purposely set it up that way. I can only hope more players wake up like McKenzie did and quietly get vaccinated. It would suck to have a season ended by COVID Agree 💯 Forget the politics and get vaccinated to give your team the best chance to win

Long Efe Obada story from Tyler Dunne
JohnNord replied to BubbaT's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If he has a big year, I’m not sure the Bills can afford to sign him to a long term deal -
The Don Beebe game. I was there and remember how packed the stadium was. It was super loud too. If memory serves me correct Barry Foster chewed up the run defense that day but it never mattered because of how easily the Bills scored

Long Efe Obada story from Tyler Dunne
JohnNord replied to BubbaT's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It’s remarkable how he finds a way to overcome situations including in Buffalo. He was an afterthought on a loaded DL when the team drafted Rosseau and Boogie but he earned a spot and even forced the team to trade one of their better ST players in Johnson. hard player not to pull for -

Long Efe Obada story from Tyler Dunne
JohnNord replied to BubbaT's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It’s an amazing article. You really should read it! Key Points: Obada was born in Nigeria. His mother got scammed by smuggler who snuck them into London illegally and couldn’t join them when her visa fell through. He grew up in terrible foster homes having to take care of his sister on $44 per week from social services. He eventually joined a gang to get money to survive and implied that they robbed and stole. Eventually he moved out of the city with his now wife and met someone who was involved with an American football league in the Uk. Despite never plying before he joined the team and played about 5 games before someone on the team got him a tryout with Dallas when they played in London. He was signed with Dallas and bounced around from practice squad to practice squad for a few years. Signed with Carolina largely because of the security the NFL international pathways program. He developed his skills under Eric Washington, despite the fact they were always drafting and bringing in other DE’s. After his breakout 5.5 sack season, he didn’t get the big offers he expected but did have many options for one-year deals. He chose Buffalo because of Washington and because he “knows” he’s the missing piece for them to get to a Super Bowl. The recap doesn’t do the article justice but if you like Obada, you’ll love the write up -
