There’s a lot of parallels between Wentz and Allen, but I’m not so sure I’d worry about this. First off Wentz not only lost Reich but his QB Joe DiFiliipo who many said was instrumental in his development. If Daboll does leave for a HC position, I would bet anything that Ken Dorsey becomes OC. So it’s not like they’ll bring in Adam Gase as OC with a completely different system. Also part of Wentz this year has been the poor roster put around him. He might have the worst skill players. Of course, his contract likely affected some of the roster moves they could’ve made

Eagles HC Pederson on the hot seat with job status
JohnNord replied to Greg S's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
To be fair, Pederson did lead Philly to the playoffs the last 3 seasons and won 1 Super Bowl. Normally I’m not for keeping coaches for the sake of continuity but he deserves another year IMO -
LOL this is a funny thread. I haven’t broken anything for a while. I have thrown stuff like a couch pillow against a wall - most recently last January after Matt Milano bounced off Watson. Also have kicked stuff or punched the floor but thankfully no damage. It is crazy how a game which, in most cases, has very impact on our everyday life can make us lose our shizznit

Kubiak (TBN) take on Bills-Chargers
JohnNord replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It just looked to me like a really bad decision which was definitely impacted by the pressure. I think the part about the snap was right though. Mitch Morse accepted the blame in his post game interview -
Bills FO likely to get poached for GM candidates
JohnNord replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It’s crazy that there are 4 or 5 LEGIT candidates in the front office that could be considered as GM’s. Joe Schoen Brian Gaine Dan Morgan Lake Dawson Malik Boyd We’ve come a long way since the days of Doug Whaley, Jim Monos - both who are currently out of the NFL -
I can agree that currently has established himself as a good coach, and has yet to establish himself as a great coach. But to make that determination now seems incomplete, unless of course, you’re already penciling him the Bills to lose in the Wildcard round....I’m not. So far, McDermott has a 2 game sample size of post season games. The Bills 2017 team were a group of overachievers. They probably were not among the best 6 teams in the AFC but despite this they won enough games to get in the playoffs - something no Bills coach had done in 2 decades. They lost 10-3 to Jacksonville largely because Tyrod Taylor (with a very poor receiving core) struggled to move the ball against a good Jacksonville defense. McDermott’s defense held Jacksonville to their lowest postseason point total. If you remember they scored 45 versus the vaunted Steeler defense the next week. They lost because of offense - not coaching and he acted accordingly. I think it’s tough to fault him for losing with this team. You can argue that 2019 is a little different. There were moments when his defense let down the team. People love to blame McDermott, Frazier or Daboll because it’s easy. I think the bigger reason they lost was because of Josh Allen. He completely unraveled and was just (if not more) culpable in blowing the lead, than the defense was. To his credit his scratched and clawed his way into overtime. In the end Houston won, because they had the better QB....at least on that day. If you want to fault McDermott for losing this game, against a team that the Bills were evenly matched against, I feel it’s a little more fair. So I’m not sure if McDermott should be viewed in the same Andy Reid or Marvin Lewis were after 1 postseason loss

I think we all know that this is a good Bills team that can make the playoffs. The bigger concern is what happens in the playoffs and whether the Bills are a “great” team. The Bills have made the playoffs on 2 out of the past 3 seasons, after going nearly 20 seasons without ever getting that far - so the standards are raised. Making the playoffs is nice, but it isn’t good enough like it was a few years ago. I think the concern is if this teams turns the ball over 3 times in 7 plays against a better opponent like they’ll face in the postseason. It almost certainly means they’d lose.

Also the 10 point deficit was the largest margin of defeat suffered by San Diego this season. I do agree that the game should’ve been won handily but I think what makes some fans uneasy is the fact that they could have put the game away much earlier. As you pointed out, the 3 turnovers kept LAC in the game. We’d like to see a more convincing win

Impact of Bad Coaching on Good Talent
JohnNord replied to Captain Caveman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I’m not sure, but it appeared that it was the playcall. I know they sometimes call 2 plays at a time at the end of the game -
Looks like Arizona

Shad made a “Ralph Wilson-like” decision and kept Marrone and Caldwell in place in the name of “continuity.” It seemed pretty obvious to me that these two should have been fired after last season. This was a huge mistake and both had to know they were goners this season barring a miracle. It always baffled me how Caldwell especially stayed in place. He whiffed on drafting two franchise QB’s and still survived for years. The AFC Championship run seemed to earn him and Marrone a lot of goodwill.

Officiating across the league is god awful
JohnNord replied to Brennan Huff's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This referee crew was extremely bad today. They looked indecisive and unsure on calls. The Moss call was probably one of the worst I’ve ever seen -
Impact of Bad Coaching on Good Talent
JohnNord replied to Captain Caveman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes and no... I think a new coach/leadership can often times make a tremendous difference. The biggest example of that is the job Brian Flores is doing since taking over for Adam Gase. Then again, I feel sometimes coaching is often a scapegoat and a “quick fix” for other issues. It’s easier to call for a coach or coordinator to get fired than it is to hold the star player accountable. You saw this a lot last January when a portion of fans wanted to blame the loss to Houston entirely on Brian Daboll and not Josh Allen - who I believe was ultimately more responsible. Dallas was another great example. There was a ton of talent on the roster and you’d assume it was Jason Garrett’s fault. But when you replace him with Mike McCarthy and a new staff, the results for a similar roster over the first weeks of the season were very similar. The run was pretty stupid, but I read that the QB sneak was Herbert’s call. He ran the sneak without changing the protection. So his line was pass blocking while he ran right into the penetrating defense. Lynn got a lot of crap over that call but it seems like it was a rookie QB making a rookie mistake -
Winning...But Undisciplined and Sloppy
JohnNord replied to Wizard's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The strange thing is.... the Bills never really got in sync on offense. Turned the ball over with 3 times over the span of 7 plays. And scored 27 points all on offense. The turnovers really sunk the team, especially Devin’s fumble. Josh’s was bad too. That’s why the 3rd quarter struggles are so hard to pin down. It’s a combination of poor execution by everyone - offense, defense, coaching etc No mention of Devin Singletary’s fumble? I think if he holds into the football, the final score is very different. I wouldn’t be shocked if Frazier leaves, but I don’t think it happens. McDermott is really not under any pressure and he has tremendous respect for Frazier. The defense seems to have gotten a little better this season as well. Plus, we all know that McDermott is probably pretty hands-on with the defense. No reason for him to make Frazier a scapegoat. If he really does feel the defense needs an overhaul, he’ll make the move. But again, I don’t see that as the case. -
Let’s consider permanently replacing Milano with Klein.
JohnNord replied to M. Wrotto's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thats not really true. Take this year out of the equation. He started 13 games in 2018 and 15 games in 2019. He’s had injury issues this season but a lot of players have. I wouldn’t consider him to have the “injury prone” label. -
Can't figure out Devin Singletary.
JohnNord replied to ChicagoRic's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The fumble looks worse given the situation and history. I can’t remember the last time he fumbled. I see Motor as a talented back. I don’t think he has the breakaway speed to break off home run TD’s. Because of this, I think you need a #2 RB to compliment and I hope Moss develops into that role. I would also love to see Yeldon get a few carries and targets too. With that being said, knowing how the team could be up against the cap in a few years, I don’t see Brandon Beane resigning Singletary to a second contract unless it’s a cheap deal. IMO he is more likely to draft another one on a rookie deal. I believe he understands the value of the RB position and I can’t see a huge investment -
Dion has been playing very well this season. I think they felt comfortable with him holding his own in 1-1 pass blocking situations. It didn’t work so well. Also, there was some kind of run where Morse and Feliciano were pulling to their left. It left Gabe Davis all alone to, from what I can assume, make a cut block on Joey? It was a mess. Not a good idea

Let’s consider permanently replacing Milano with Klein.
JohnNord replied to M. Wrotto's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think this the perfect example of recency bias. Klein has played better over the past weeks but Milano is the better player overall. If there’s a way you can Milano on the team, I would support that -
The Effect of the Bills on Dan Marino’s Postseason Success
JohnNord replied to JohnNord's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Context matters. Back then 60% completion was excellent for a QB. Now it’s expected -
I started comparing QB stats and came across Dan Marino. I’d say he sort of had an interesting career stat wise - tremendous success early in his career, and NFL record for TD passes, and a Super Bowl appearance. For the rest of his career he put up very great numbers (though never as good as his first few seasons) but he never reached another Super Bowl. Not only that but he only reached an AFC Championship Game one other time in 1993. All of this, yet Marino is still regarded as one of the best QB’s of all time and has the stats to make the argument. Yet he had very limited success in terms of sustained post season success. Miami was always a 10 or 11 win team under Marino, who occasionally won a Wildcard game, but barely got further than that. While I only followed his career occasionally, Im wondering why Marino didn’t achieve more success? Was he a QB that just didn’t deliver in big games when he needed to? Was Don Shula living on his past laurels from the 1970’s? Or did the Miami organization not put enough talent around him? I also wonder if the Bills success during his prime derailed his chances to succeed (much like the Patriots of the past 20 years or so). From what I can remember, every time it mattered the Bills and Jim Kelly beat Dan Marino - including 3 times in the playoffs.

The problem with signing Stills is that you’d have to bump one of the WR’s off the active roster and maybe off the team. So which receiver do you cut? Diggs, Brown, Beasley, McKenzie, Davis, Roberts? I can’t see them having 7 active WR’s every week that don’t play special teams. If the idea is that he takes over during Brown’s injury, by the time we sign Stills it would take about almost 2 weeks for him to get activated. By then, there’s a good chance Brown is probably ready. Notice how they haven’t put him on IR. That probably means he should be back within 2-3 weeks. The only way I see the Bills signing Stills is if they know Brown is done for the year

Ex Bills TE Logan Thomas Quietly Having a Great Season
JohnNord replied to JohnNord's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I’m not saying that Thomas is a great TE or comparing him to the Bills TE’s. I’m just saying that he was a player that showed a lot of athleticism as a TE is finally doing some good things. I remember when he was in Buffalo, his wife tragically lost their baby girl. The positive way the family handled the situation was inspiring. It made me want to root for Logan ever since. Things didn’t work out in Buffalo but it looks like he should have a spot in the NFL for years to come. I
