Lost in the sauce: Outstanding Performances vs KC
JohnNord replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall
Right he can get after the QB, but unfortunately he can be pretty lousy against the run. Maybe it’s because they are playing him out of position but over the past few seasons he’s been on the field when the defense has gotten gashed. That’s why you can’t depend on him much especially as a veteran player -
The only unquestioned starters are Benford and Bishop. Rapp has an advantage but I wouldn’t be shocked to see them bring in completion. The only way I see Hamlin returning is on a short term deal in a depth role. I think he’ll find a better deal elsewhere. CB is again in play for Buffalo on Day 1 or Day 2. I can see Douglas returning-signing but again on a short term deal. They can’t rely on him to start next season.

Agreed. People want to put Vic Fangio right around the same class but I don’t think he’s close and you’ll see why at Super Bowl.

Steve Spagnolo is a potentially the greatest Defensive Coordinator of all-time…while also being potentially the worst Head Coach of all-time. His record is DISMAL. 4 years as HC… winning percentage of .212 (11-41)

Wide Receiver Train Full Speed Ahead- CHOO CHOO!
JohnNord replied to Pete's topic in The Stadium Wall
There’s a difference. Mahomes got the ball out in like 2 seconds because he had targets to get open. Andy Reid knew the DL vs. his OL was a mismatch so he worked to get the ball out fast. The Bills have done this in the past but the OL had typically been good. Also, a lot of the Bills completions this season relied on rubs which take a little more time to set up. IMO Buffalo needs fast WR’s who separate. They don’t have that on their roster now -
Wide Receiver Train Full Speed Ahead- CHOO CHOO!

This is almost a certainty. I think they’ll sign one mid-level WR to play on the outside in Free Agency. It might actually be Amari only because the rest of the class isn’t really that impressive besides Higgins. I can definitely see them re-signing Hollins as well. Because of “everybody eats” and the hopeful thought that Dalton Kincaid develops into the weapon they envisioned, I think there’s a good chance Beane bypasses drafting a WR over the first few rounds. Maybe they take one late like to compete for WR6 with the Tyrell Shavers of the world. Here’s my early prediction WR1: Mid-level FA WR2: Coleman WR3: Shakir WR4: Samuel WR5: Hollins I don’t love this idea but it seems that this is how Beane & co constructed the roster. -
Wide Receiver Train Full Speed Ahead- CHOO CHOO!

It’s not that he isn’t useful. He still had almost 600 yards in 13 games as a rookie and averaged almost 20 YPC. He’ll have a role in the offense but it’s likely as a WR4 which is pretty disappointing given where he was drafted. So Buffalo is essentially in the same position they were in last season: WR 1 - vacant WR 2 - vacant WR 3 - Shakir This is why so many of us wanted Beane to double down at WR last season in the draft. The Coleman selection alone wasn’t enough -
Good for him. He had a pretty decent few seasons in Buffalo for a UDFA WR. I also remember him as cohost of The John Murphy Show

Lost in the sauce: Outstanding Performances vs KC

He’s up and down. He made some big plays but also has been blown off the ball badly in the run game. If you re-sign him, I think he has to be your last DT. -

The Phillips sack was absolutely huge. I think this was the game where James Cook made a name for himself. Also I’d add in Matt Milano who made a tremendous open field sack on Mahomes which knocked them out of FG range. That was also a huge play- 62 replies

Xavier Worthy: So far, not much more than a gadget guy

They also just signed Samuel at the time too. That’s my problem with how the WR room was constructed. Too many duplicate skillsets -

Yeah I’m not upset they didn’t pick Worthy but it’s pretty clear that McConkey should have been the pick. I didn’t follow Coleman closely enough to know how’d he do in the NFL. But so far he’s as advertised and I’d agree he’ll probably never be starting caliber. How about moving him into the slot? -
The local rating in the WNY is absolutely insane. I can’t remember the exact number but a ridiculous amount of TV’s were tuned to the Bills game on Sunday.
-
They will cut him just like the Jordan Poyer and Mitch Morse. They’d love to keep him at a lower deal but it’s not possible. Look for Von to sign a one-year deal late in the offseason

Some more national media dismissing at the “fire McDermott” takes: You don’t want to debate because you have nothing but emotion and vitriol. That’s why you tried changing the topic and used a pretty gross metaphor in the process.
-
🤣 Nice straw man argument Mickie. When the hill you choose to die on get laughed at by the media, you change the subject. You’d be a great politician. When did I say the Bills defense is better than the Texans? My point is that you’re grandstanding about firing McDermott is getting laughed at by the pros. Well done 👏👏👏👏 Got any more takes?

The national media is laughing at some of your takes.

Who gives a *****? -
Dan nails it right here. They don’t have enough high impact players on defense. He speaks only about the back 7 and he’s right but I’d also argue that they need a better pass rusher.
-
How Elam was drafted is absolutely puzzling. He doesn’t fit the defense at all, as he isn’t very good in zone coverage. So he played man and also wasn’t good and victimized several times. The Bills will decline his option and would be wise to trade him for the 7th round pick they might be able to get. Damar is decent in zone defense but they had him playing man coverage to disastrous results especially when he was isolated on Worthy. What a mess. I’m also disappointed he didn’t try to deliver a bit to hit to PM on the goal line.
-
Doesn’t really mean he’s lost the pulse. He tends to be right a lot of the time. Plus I would trust his reporting over a Bills fan connecting dots based on press conference comments
-
This is a lot of speculation from a press conference. You make it sound like Josh Allen is a nicer version of Aaron Rodgers. If you read the Tim Graham’s reporting last season, the concern with Allen was that he was too nice and wanted to be one of the guys. Rather than being vocal like Diggs, he’d often be hesitant. Terry, Beane and McDermott all wanted him to be more vocal and think of himself as a “partner.” This completely contradicts what you said.
