Defensive turnovers/endzone celebrations
JohnNord replied to I'm Spartacus's topic in The Stadium Wall
you bring up a good point. The problem with penalties like taunting, roughing the passer, and illegal blocks is that there’s a lot of nuance to each infraction. As a result the calls have been very inconsistent. IMO I think the taunting penalties are an absolute joke because like you said - there’s plenty of “taunting” that doesn’t get called. -
All-22 Grades for Bills/Saints (The Athletic)

The Bills offensive line is not the worst in the NFL. They are average with all 5 starters. The lines they’ve used the past few weeks are probably slightly below average. Mitch Morse is a little above average. Dion and Daryl Williams are not having good season but have performed better the past two years. Brown has shown promised as a rookie I don’t think Feliciano is that great -

I read an interesting breakdown of sacks and pressure surrendered by Dawkins in 2020 vs. 2021 on Twitter the week before the NO game. Surprisingly the numbers were pretty close. The difference IMO is that he’s had more noticeable lows in 2020 than 2021. This of course, was before the Thanksgiving game which was one of his worst. -
Well said man… I think the drought did a lot to negatively impact the mindset of the Bills fan base - myself included. Whenever things get tough, there’s an immediate thought that everything will turn to crap. You see this a lot online.

Bills have the highest pressure/hurry rate in the NFL??
JohnNord replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don’t see any indication that Washington is being blamed for the lack of sacks. There’s really not that much of a drop off from last season. Also the pressures are up, as are turnovers and INT’s. Also I think McDermott sees Washington as a potential DC replacement for Frazier if he takes a HC job -
Smoke had two very good seasons in Buffalo and was a huge part in Josh’s development at QB. With that being said, I think the “Bills miss John Brown” crowd is a bit overstated. Their best offensive performances came last season when Brown wasn’t in the lineup. He did run the WR screen very well. Outside of that, I don’t think he’s as missed as some let on

His accountant didn’t forget he was in the league. Agolor is very much over paid

For some reason the McDermott/Frazier coaches defenses always get a lot of pressures but few sacks. Not sure why this is…. In the previous 4 years, there has never been a defender with double digit sacks. The highest was Jordan Phillips in 2019 with 9.5 sacks. The sack leaders in previous years have been very low as well: 2017: Hughes/Lawson 4.0 😳 2018: Hughes 7.0 2019: Phillips 9.5 2020: Addison/Klein 5.0 😳 Currently the leaders are Addison with 4.0 and Rosseau with 3.0. It looks like there’s an excellent chance of another single digit sack leader. -
I think they are a better team overall. It doesn’t meant the better always wins, unfortunately. I love McDermott but I think Belichick is still one of the best coaches of all-time. He built his current roster to combat teams like Buffalo and Kansas City. McDermott and the Bills likely knew he was going to gunning for them too. From a matchup standpoint, there’s a lot of concerns. I really do believe this game could come down to turnover differential

I can guarantee he’s going to tested deep at least once by Nelson Agolor. Guaranteed

No… this tells me they Bills have more in confidence in Dane Jackson and Cam Lewis (maybe Nick McLeod) and any other DB on their roster than they do with anyone currently available. This signing is a long shot and I don’t anticipate Harris sees any time

Harrison Phillips playing through torn PCL

Didn’t this happen in a preseason game? I remember when he was hurt and I’m surprised he wasn’t on the injury report. Kudos to him for gutting it out. -

I don’t think anything good comes out of the Tre injury. But it’s quite possible that the Bills (and McDermott specifically) might have to chance their philosophy. Tre’s absence makes them a bit more vulnerable at corner. Rather than coaching defensively, I think they may realize that need to score more points and can’t protect a lead.

That’s not true… The Colts pounded the ball. Tennesee beat the Bills with play action. Pounding the ball with Henry didn’t work so great after his TD run. Pittsburgh beat the Bills with a ST TD, good pash rush, and some circus throws and catches. They also tried pounding the ball with Harris which didn’t work. If this is the case, then these two should be ready for Monday night. I hope so.

Assuming their symptoms have been normal. They probably should be ready. Brown was out on 11/18 which means he would have 17 days before the game on Sunday. He should have stopped Star went on the COVID list on 11/14 which would give him 21 days. The wild card here is we don’t know how COVID affected either of these two. The rumors were that neither were vaccinated, which means the symptoms could have been really bad. If that’s the case, I can see them waiting another week.

THIS. This right here is my main concern. Not only does he bite on double moves but when he gets behind in coverage he holds onto the WR’s causing a flag. These types of plays can change games. Guaranteed that Josh McDaniels is going to break tendencies and dial up a few deep shots to Bourne or Agolor to test Jackson and Wallace deep Yes and he also got beat last Thursday as well and nearly was flagged for PI. As a CB he seems to be hit or miss depending on the play
