I think you are giving him a bit too much credit for his play on the field. People did think that Star’s absence was an issue in 2020 and then realized they were wrong as the Bills defense still got gashed on the group multiple times this season. Remember how his presence was going to allow Edmunds to be a monster this year against the run? It didn’t happen. In fact, the guy from Cover 1 is posting dozens and dozens of videos showing why the bad play of the DT’s (namely Star and Butler) were the reason why Edmunds was often ineffective against the run. There actually was not that big of a drop off between Star and Eli Ankou who the Bills just re-signed. As much as you are cheerleading for Star is not going to be in the roster this season. I can guarantee you that the Bills will cut him as they look to upgrade at DT. The answer to your question is “yes.” Remember how one of the big thing with McDermott was availability. He has moved on from productive because they were injury prone. Go back and watch McDermott answer questions about Star. He answers in one word responses, which ridiculously short even by McDermott terms. The Bills could not get out of the Star contract unscathed. They can this season. I am 100% confident that Star is not on the roster next season. Not surprised you are taking a contrarian approach with me though

If you read between the lines of what’s been said about him publicly, I don’t get the impression that the Bills hold a favorable opinion of him on the field. McDermott did not seem pleased that Star didn’t get vaxxed given his history last season. Also Beane said in his presser that after landing on the COVID list, Star was not the same player. These comments are hardly ringing endorsements. The Bills will certainly move on from him this season and 1TDT will likely be a position to add, especially if they can’t resign Phillips.

Florio floated out an interesting theory. He believes that Easterby always wanted to hire his friend Josh McCown. He couldn’t hire him last year so they hired Culley to set him up to fail. I think you are off base here. While I can’t defend the defense over the final :13, I think McDermott is a very good coach and definitely not overrated. It sounds like you’re looking for a scapegoat, because while he deserves criticism for this seasons game versus KC, Your examples really aren’t the best. The Bills lost against Houston because of Josh Allen. Period. He had a meltdown and we all know it. Josh lost that game. Second, a 9-0 lead in 1Q against the best offense in the NFL last season is hardly “blowing it.” The Bills were outmatched and slow on defense compared to Kansas City. Josh also struggled in the face of a bad performance from his OL. Coaching didn’t lose this game, it was a personnel issue.

Having to chase Hill on that TD also probably is the reason they tied the game. I’m not sure if the Bills could keep KC out of the endzone. They still could have scored a TD leaving the Bills with less time to operate. The larger issue is the defense’s inability to make a crucial stop when they need to. I said the same thing and a moderator on this board called me “dumb” for pointing it out. SMH I’ve said this as well. When it mattered they struggled to literally get just one stop when they needed to in big game. We saw thing against Tennessee and Kansas City where they allowed scores on just about every drive towards the end of the game. Is it scheme or players? I think it’s a mix of both

I think you are talking two very situations. Yes the Bills were out coached in every Super Bowl. However as you pointed out, Buffalo had the superior roster to NYG in SB25. The Giants defense was very good, but Buffalo had a pretty advantage and should have won the game. The play calling on offense was trash and Walt Corey out together a horrible game plan on defense. The Dallas teams were just more talented than Buffalo. Also well coached. It would have taken a perfect performance for the Bills to win either of those two Super Bowls. They pulled it off for one half in SB28

Who’s saying that? I’m just wondering why he didn’t directly replace Ted I get the criticism of Levy and his staff though. I think from an X’s and O’s standpoint they left a lot to be desired and were outcoached in every Super Bowl

Replacing a successful OC is never easy but teams usually try to hire someone. For some reason Levy didn’t do that. He simply merged the position with Bresnahan the OL coach. It seemed like an odd decision

It’s hard to grade this draft because just about all of the picks were not expected to contribute. Rosseau and Brown surprisingly were good enough to earn time and both had their ups and downs. Boogie Basham had a reputation out of college as more of a pro ready player, so I think you can consider his rookie year someone what of a disappointment but again - small sample size. Next year will tell us a lot more. All three of these players should get a ton of playing time along with Tommy Doyle. This will tell us how good the draft is

Yeah I had assumed that the fact that Kelly was calling the plays on offense was the reason why he never really found a replacement. Still it does make you wonder what would have happened if a fresh set of eyes at OC added some new wrinkles to the K-Gun. I’m actually surprised at how long Walt Corey lasted as DC. My guess is because the team went to 4 straight Super Bowls and features a lot of All-Pro’s with a tendency to make big plays at key moments. I can’t tell if this is sarcasm or not. I do remember reading that Ralph was against giving coaches big contracts. He never did this when he owned the Bills though rumor was that he was willing to break out the checkbook for Shannahan and Cower years later. I remember when Rex Ryan was hired and added a huge coaching staff. The old beat reporters would comment how times had changed because Ralph would never allow this

I think it’s all about speed and quickness an d YAC. With a new OC and OL coach, I think the Bills could develop a better screw game. It’s shocking how many of Mahomes’ throws were at or behind the LOS as opposed to Allen’s

I wouldn’t be shocked to see it but I don’t like it. It sounds fine until your favorite team is the one that misses out on the #1 pick. The one consolation as a fan of a terrible team was always a high draft pick. I’m sure they would set up the draft where the team with the worst record can finish no lower than 5 or whatever but still.

The other day, I couldn’t remember who the Bills offense coordinator during the SB era was after Ted Marchiabroda left to coach Indy. I looked it up only to find that there really wasn’t a direct replacement. Marv did two things - promoted running backs coach Elijah Pitts to Assistant HC and named Tom Bresnahan OC on top of duties as OL coach. So it wasn’t a situation like we just had in Buffalo where Dorsey was promoted to OC and then Joe Brady was hired to take his job as QB coach. Does anyone remember what went into this decision to not replace Marchiabroda with someone from the outside? Also what was the role of Elijah Pitts as Assistant HC? Finally I noticed that Bresnahan along with DC Walt Corey had position responsibilities on top of their jobs as coordinators. Was this something the Bills did to save money on coaches? Oddly enough Marchiabroda was only OC. This was the start of my fandom so I don’t remember much things like this…

EB will be a terrible hire. Not sure how you can interview EB and Flores and end up thinking EB is the better choice

Tannehill’s contract is a $38M cap hit for this season. Unless Rodgers plans to play for $0, I can’t see this happening

I don’t know about Beasley. It would surprise me for coaches and FO to watch his tape and see that he’s lost a step and is less effective versus man. Bills are likely to see a lot of zone next year. Do they still keep him? I’d like to keep Darryl Williams, but the problem is he’s playing guard and is paid as a right tackle. Still if the Bills can find a way to keep him, I wouldn’t mind The revisionist history with Teller is so annoying. He wasn’t the player he became when he was traded. Should the Bills hung onto him for one more season? Maybe. But it’s not as lopsided as it looks in retrospect. As far as Kelvin Benjamin, the Bills had no one at WR. They needed to do something and he was the best option. We all loved the move at the time. Beane probably paid a little too steep of a price for him. But it was a seller’s marker and he was going all in to break the playoff streak which he did.

Not sure what to think about this hire. I would have loved to have Michael Munchak because his OL’s are always good.

Benjamin Albright who reports on the Broncos in Denver shared some reasons why EB has not been hired as HC. Everything from him own personal baggage, to issues coaching at Colorado, and recently the fact that Andy Reid OC’s have not fared well in the NFL as head coaches. Also said that Bieniemy doesn’t interview well and hasn’t left an impression during his interviews. I do wonder if coaching in Andy Reid’s shadow hurts him as well

That’s why I don’t think there’s any way Flores “wins” the case if it goes to court. But if he’s somehow able to get the NFL to change hiring practices it will be a huge victory. If you go for 4th down every opportunity you end up like Brandon Staley. Look at the stats for McDermott when it comes to 4th down. He has one of the highest percentages
