1/2 Way Through: Which Coach has the Hottest Seat?
Virgil replied to ryguy101's topic in The Stadium Wall
I’d def bring him in as a consultant -
If Olave and BTJ are really off the table, this is as solid a deep threat option as we’d have. He showed solid footwork to lose his guy on deep routes. I can’t say I know much about his overall route running ability.

A Few Thoughts about the Panthers Game - Community Edition

I've thought the same thing. We don't seem to use motion to setup plays outside of a wide receiver screen. This is something the Dolphins and Chiefs do well, that I wish we would mimic to help Coleman or others. -

There was meant to be a lot of sarcasm and jest sprinkled in there. I know this isn’t apples to apples -
The one thing I'm not giving us credit for is how the Chiefs also seem to do this every year. They come out slow, we deem them to be washed and their offense to be old, and then they turn it on. They obviously get more of the benefit of the doubt because they've won it all and we haven't, but it does feel similar.

A Few Thoughts about the Panthers Game - Community Edition

I'm sorry, but I just can't get behind this. Once the game starts, I feel like those types of things go out of your head. Josh has always said the game starts for him the moment he is hit. -
I'm going to tell myself that this is them trying to drive up the price.

Thank you for mentioning this. I feel like, if the Bills do win one, it will be very similar to when Manning finally got his. His defense finally figured it out for the playoff run and the offense did just enough to win. It wasn't their brand of football, but things finally clicked in the right moment. T That's my only real hope at this point. I don't know. Going into the Pats game, if we won that, our lead would have been ridiculous. Add in how the Chiefs offense was, and how bad the Ravens and Bengals are....it was all lining up for once. I think a letdown will come for the Pats, as it does all teams. But right now, they have a lot of confidence and it's puling them through. Maye also isn't making mistakes. They kind of remind me of the Broncos from last season, so maybe we'll see the same outcome. Good news is, Maye will probably command 65-70 mil, so that will be fun for them.

A Few Thoughts about the Panthers Game - Community Edition

Full Disclaimer: My daughter's soccer coach decided to be a full blown ####### and schedule a soccer game for 2p yesterday, so I had to watch the entire game from my phone. I saw the entire game, but it wasn't the normal experience and I didn't have audio at times, so please give me a little grace here. 1 - Attitude - Outside of our passing game, the attitude of this team so far this season has been my biggest concern. We've started games slow, looked lethargic, and Josh has not looked like himself at all. I'm happy to say that at least one of these issues was addressed in this game. On the Bills first defensive series, McD looked like he was ready to fight someone on the sidelines and you could see that manifest in the defense. The defense set the tone early with Groot's strip fumble and were relentless all game. Attitude and coming off the bye week may have been part of it, while so many new players taking the field may have been the other part. Either way, McD's arrow is point up after this game as you can tell he had the defense ready to play. 2 - Passing Game - At this point, I don't know if I should be calling out Brady or Allen. I've never seen Allen play this poorly for so many games since his rookie season. I'm not an All-22 film study person, but I wish I was right now. Josh didn't complete a pass beyond the line of scrimmage in the first quarter and his accuracy was off. Not only that, but you could see it on his face that he's just not mentally there right now. Is it because guys aren't getting open? Is it because we are only calling conservative plays that keep the defense off the field? Or is it a little bit of both? Either way, the passing game we've almost taken for granted over the past few years is really struggling and we aren't going anywhere until we figure it out. 3 - Cook - I mean, what more can you say about him at this point? I'd argue Cook is owed the second biggest apology on this board about his contract since we drafted the wrong Josh. Not only did he break 200 yards, he looked like a pro playing against high school players. He literally pulled a Techno Bowl move on his 64 yard touchdown pass by taking the longest possible route to the endzone, looked back for followers, and flipped in just for fun. Seriously, that might be the most dominant rushing effort I can remember seeing from start to finish by a player in a Bills uniform. 4 - Offensive line - While we still can't seem to pick up a stunt (which is going to be really bad again the Chiefs next week), the line and Hawes were absolutely dominant in rush protection. The fact that Cook's 64 yard run was up the middle and he got within 5 yards of almost every defender, and STILL was not even touched....wow. Just wow. 5 - Shakir - Was that touchdown catch and run the fastest we've ever seen him run? Like Cook's TD, Shakir was toying with his defender and found an extra gear. We still need to get Kincaid healthy, but it does feel like Shakir and Kincaid are very close to completing our puzzle in the passing attack. Get us a border receiver and start making some throws to Cook, and I will feel a lot better. 6 - Oliver - I was frustrated with Oliver's injury for about two seconds, before laughing it off. I mean seriously, do he just skip arms and torso day in the weight room on this team? How many bicep and pec issues can we have? At the point, I just can't expect some of these guys to stay healthy. But unlike other weeks where the injuries piled on, it was amazing to see so many other players step up and watch the defense get arguably more dominant as the game went on. 7 - Hairston - I don't think I realized how much I needed to see Hairston make that tackle on the swing pass until it happened. That was an absolute hit for a guy that had questions about his size and tackling ability. He didn't just tackle the guy, he came in at him like missile. If that's a sign of things to come, our secondary just go a whole lot better. 8 - Bishop and Hancock? - Am I crazy or is that the best duo unit we've seen at safety so far this season? I'm not dumping on Poyer, but Hancock flashed some speed out there. Catching Dowdle from twenty yards away to save a touchdown is no easy feat. Maybe it was the pressure up front too, but the safety play seemed to be more relaxed and confident out there. 9 - Linebackers - Anyone else pleasantly surprised that we held the Panthers rushing attack in check with Thompson, Buffalo Joe, and Williams? For what could have been a huge liability, those guys held their own. 10 - Defensive Line - Yes, it was Dalton back there and I don't want to get ahead of ourselves. But man, this is what we've been waiting for with our pass rush. They were absolute disruptors out there and made life easier for everyone else on defense. To me, this wasn't scheme either. This was straight up bulldozing guys into Dalton. Hoecht was a man possessed, Walker continues to be a rock star, AJ decided to play for once in a great way, and Ogunjobi joined the party. Hell, Bosa snuck in two sacks on the day. I'm not going to put a lot of stock into next weeks game against the Chiefs, but I'm very curious to see what these guys do next week. As for the Chiefs, there is one thing I am hoping to see, and that is Josh waking up from his coma. The Chiefs in the regular season appear to be Josh's 7 iron. They find a way to bring out the best in him. Win or lose, if Josh can get back on track and the defense continues with this momentum, maybe things won't be as bad as they've felt. OJ had 273 yards rushing and the Bills lost...

I feel absolutely zero sympathy for him. He picked the money over winning and that's what he got. -
Ugh, while I hate a LAMP post, I've been struggling with my disconnect from the Bills season so far and more so am curious to see if anyone else is feeling the same way. Many people know me on here as a poster for over 20 years, season ticket holder of both the old and new stadium, and definitely capable of allowing this "game" to affect me on an emotional level that isn't super healthy. Going into this season, my expectations were #1 seed and Super Bowl or bust. Last season, I genuinely believed we were going to the Super Bowl and were going to beat the Chiefs in the AFC Championship game. I had visions of a Super Bowl parade, which is something I never dared allow myself to think about. With this season, between our easy schedule, easy division, offseason focus on the defense, and expectation that our offense would continue to find dominant success, it felt like our time. Now, 5-2 later with a half-game deficit to the surging Patriots and peaking Chiefs coming in this week, I find myself just waiting for the 5 seed and a division round exit from the playoffs. In prior years, I would have chalked this all up to BBFS, which would have been washed away with our beating of the Panthers in such dominating fashion. Yet here I am the next day, writing this, because I still just can't shake the feeling that we've peaked and Josh won't bring one home. Yes, Josh probably has another ten years in him at least, and that assumption is a ridiculous one to make. But here I am. When I try to pinpoint where all of this is coming from, as much as I hate to say it, I think it's stemming from the rising Patriots. I never expected the AFC East to always be terrible, nor did I want to be handed anything. Seeing the Pats and Maye grow as a team and building a potential winning culture is reminding me of what we've had over the past five years and how quickly things can change. While it was just us vs the Chiefs for a while, now we have the Chiefs getting their offense of 3 years ago back, a genuine challenger in the the Pats who already beat us at home and equally have an easy schedule, plus the rise of other teams. All of that together just makes me feel like we really missed our opportunity these past five years to seize our window. There's also the human element in that sometimes we forget that Josh, McD, Pegula, and everyone else are just people that are capable of crashing out. Think about job hunting. It would only be natural to get defeated after going through numerous interviews, putting your best game face on with a great resume, only to get passed over time and time again. Josh has had the Super Bowl right in front of him multiple times, only to come up short. At what point, does he start to doubt himself or those around him? Would you blame him? I'm not saying that's what is happening this season, but something is clearly off with Josh. I get having a bad game or making a bad throw, but I used to count on one hand how many errand throws Josh would make in a game. This season, I need more hands. I'm not going to play the game of guessing why, because I can't possibly know. Things just feel different. With McD, I'm incredibly torn. Like most coaches, I think McD struggles to find the right amount of influence to put out there. I think McD has a very specific vision for how he wants both sides of the ball to operate, and knows he is more than capable to run the defense. But as McD has said, he also knows that he needs to trust his coaches and focus on other things as a Head Coach. Like a parent, you have to know when to let your kid fail and skin their knee. However, as this is a job, he needs to also know the threshold that could cost him his job. All I know is, this is his team, he has the support of the Pegulas, and this is the bed we've made. Yes, I'm rambling a bit and don't have the answers. All I know is, I didn't enjoy the win yesterday as I should have. I don't have the any real optimism about this team anymore. I wish it wasn't the case, but it's just how I feel. I'm still not going to miss a game. I'm still going to wear by gear. But even with the Chiefs game this week, I feel like it's a lose lose. If we win, it keeps us up with the Pats and gives us the tie breaker for the one seed, but we've seen what beating the Chiefs in the regular season gets us. If we lose, which I think we will, then I feel like the one seed and division are gone. Anyways, sorry to crap in anyone's cereal and I'm sure some will take the opportunity to flame away. But if I we get one LAMP a season, I'm cashing mine in now.
