  1. I’ve been listening to plenty of Greg Cosell lately, Tape Heads is a great podcast. Anyways, there are two guys he really does not like, Drake London and Chris Olave, and I totally agree with him. They both seem way over ranked. He just doesn’t see it with London and more or less said that Olave plays way too soft. Hopefully they’re both gone anyways when we pick at 25.

  2. Came across this interview of AJ Highsmith who is a southern area scout for the Bills. It’s a really long interview from July 2021 (yes, I know it’s old but don’t think it was ever posted here) but there are some good scouting discussions that I found quite interesting.

Here are some of the main things I got from it:

17:41 - while talking about safeties, he mentions they like multi-sport athletes and that the Bills DB coach likes guys who were former baseball players as it helps them with deep ball tracking

30:01 - talks about interviewing as many people as possible when looking into a player and taking their coach’s opinion on a player with a grain of salt because they’re almost always going to pump up their guys, these coaches look good when their guys get drafted. Said every report they got on Greg Rousseau was great and when they met him, everything matched up with what they heard and they really liked him.

32:43 - the way the draft fell, Rousseau and Basham were BPA, not necessarily targeting edge, just the way it fell, was happy to get Rousseau since he’s also a U of Miami guy, even though he later said he was hoping they’d take Elijah Moore.

34:00 - talks about why Carlos Basham may have fallen in the draft, thinks his versatility (doesn’t have a ‘home position’) could be considered a knock on him by other teams, Bills have been known to like guys with versatility though

37:03 - Highsmith was most excited about Spencer Brown and thought he fell because of some injury concerns. I wasn’t aware of his injury history but good to hear they’ll take guys that have had injury concerns, they have a lot of confidence in their medical staff.

44:29 AJ Highsmith says Elijah Moore was his 2021 draft crush and later praises the Jets for a solid draft

1:07:37 - discussion on smaller CBs, I thought this was quite interesting, he says he doesn’t knock guys too much if they’re smaller, as long as they are a good corner then they’re only going to lose a few times to bigger WRs in the run of the season. So it doesn’t sound like he would take a guy like Roger McCreary off his draft list because of his short arms for example, McCreary would be in his scouting area too.

I was thinking of red zone failures and I think it was the Titans game, could have been the Bucs. Moss had an easy TD which would have won the game for us.
He ran past the seam and straight into were the blockers were moving the defense.   I cannot think of any plays he made in the red zone.

As a runner he lacks vision and football smarts.   Blocking is average at best and he did nothing as a receiver out of the backfield.   The Bills will draft a RB and Moss will have to really improve to make the team.

What does he do well? Hes not fast, his vision is poor, blocking is average. Bills should be looking to improve that position

I don't care for Moss and he looks like a bust but I thought he was known for being a very good pass blocker?

    Is he ever right?

Unless you’re talking about predicting the top 5 or so draft picks, the “mock draft” phenomenon continues to astound me — and all of these guys’ records are putrid.

It makes complete sense that teams run simulations internally to give themselves an idea of how a draft may shake out, but the mock drafts by media members and “insiders” crack me up.

    Carry on.

is anyone ever right on these mock drafts? I’ve been going back and looking at old mocks and Ed Oliver was often connected to the Bills but that’s about it.

Joe Buscaglia at The Athletic did have the Bills picking Greg Rousseau last year so I’m gonna keep an eye on his picks this year.

I’m beginning to think that all the teams in front of the Bills will be loading up on all the top talent at WR and CB.

I’m warming to the fact that the Bills 1st round pick will be either Hall or Walker.

    I wouldn’t be shocked.

Remember, the Bills were all in on Etienne at 30.

Were they though? It’s all hearsay. There were Bills writers who liked the idea of picking Etienne at 30 (Marcel Louis-Jacques) but I don’t think it was based on the Bills office actually liking Etienne.

Woods may have great workout numbers but he runs like an old man........when his knees go up his shoulders go up........it's very disco-esque........lotta' wasted motion.  He is the opposite of a smooth athlete and definitely doesn't play anywhere near those speed and agility numbers on the field.    And for an ex-QB.......he doesn't handle the football well........shaky hands.  He is huge and can block so there is hope.   But he was on NFLN the other day and they were interviewing him and talking about Kyle Pitts comps.

It’s weird, I find Jelani Woods looks slow and not super athletic on tape but he destroyed the combine. Meanwhile, a guy like Isaiah Likely looks fast/athletic on tape but had a dreadful combine and very poor 40 time. I think I’d rather trust my eyes with what I see during the game instead of a few practice drills.

I love when some media hack tries to revise history. As you stated, Arizona traded up for Rosen, they did not stay put. Arizona wanted to trade up for Josh, but the Bills had more draft ammo.  Arizona was 15th with one 2nd round pick, the Bills were 12th with 2 second round picks to offer.  Arizona never had the draft capital to compete with the Bills.

I remember a lot of draft graders saying the Bills gave up too much for Allen while applauding Arizona for trading up 5 spots (same number of spots that the Bills moved up from) in order to beat Miami to Rosen.

Yeah I was under the understanding that Arizona wanted Josh Allen too, but couldn't get ahead of the Bills.

Although if Allen was their guy, why would they then trade up for Rosen? Was that to get ahead of Miami who may have wanted him? Definitely a head scratcher.

As much as I prefer WR at 25, if Booth is there, I wouldn't hate it.  The guy has some elite traits.

Outside of Booth, give me a WR or OL.

Would be pretty awesome if Booth is there at 25, and it’s definitely possible. I expect we’ll wait on WR, similar to when the Bills waited on Gabriel Davis. Lots of good WR later in the draft and I feel like it makes sense to grab CB early.
