Peter King/FMIA/PFT 1st Round Mock Draft
newcam2012 replied to Sierra Foothills's topic in The Stadium Wall
I agree. Davis will likely get a nice contract offer from another team. Of course, a lot will depend on this season's play. I'd rather let Davis walk and draft a cheaper WR on a rookie contract. Davis is definetly replaceable. -
That's a fair response. A lot depends on the board when pick 27 happens. As for myself, I'm not really a huge fan of a TE who really isn't a TE but plays TE; yet he's supposed to be playing like a WR even though he's a TE. I really can't point to a lot of success under this scenario. (I'm no fan of these " tweeners.") The one who comes to mind with limited success is Engram for the Jags who was drafted by the Giants. With that said, the TE depth is very good. On many people's board Kincaid isn't even their top rated TE. I'm fairly confident that a much more sound and logical player will be available at pick 27 than Kincaid. I am on the record saying Kincaid is likely a poor pick for the Bills at 27.
-
I think you are not looking at the whole picture with respect. I really don't think the Bills offensive staff will utilize the skill set of Kincaid. Not trying to sound negative but he really isn't a fit for the Bills offense. Rather then looking at just the player look at the team, the coaching staff, team needs, teams tendencies, and the schematic offense of the Bills. All of this adds up to a mistake for the Bills to draft Kincaid at 27. Hope that gives you a different perspective. The answer for the offense isn't Kincaid or another TE. It's upgrading the Oline and WR core. Of course, feel free to disagree.
-
I think that's getting way too cute sort of speak. The Bills offense really isn't the type of offense you are suggesting with Kincaid. Dorsey wasn't able to string together plays that set up future plays. Basically, he called individual plays on a play by play basis. There is no real need for the Bills to draft a TE. I can't emphasis this enough! Not sure what the fan perception is to why a TE is the answer to the Bills offense. The answer is better Oline protection and an upgrade at the WR position. I'd add when have you really seen a difference maker TE drafted since Gronk and Kelce? Without doing research it sure seems like highly drafted TEs under preform at a higher rate than other positions. Im sure I will be corrected if I'm wrong. I hope the Bills pass on drafting a TE.
-
Imho, it would likely be a strategic error picking a TE in the 1st round. Of course it depends on who is available. Nevertheless, there will be ample players to draft that make much much more sense. Quinton Johnson is a pretty scary pick. It's boom or bust in my eyes. His size is very appealing but his catching ability or lack of is equally concerning. I'd much rather prefer Addison, Flowers or Mims later in the draft.
-
I think Bijan goes early because he's going to be ranked top 5 BPA on most teams boards. At some point, the value will be too great to pass up with such a weak draft. No way he is available at pick 27.
-
Since when have the Bills used a TE as a legitimate weapon? I like the youngster but I have my doubts Dorsey will call plays and run an offense that fully takes advantage of his skills. Very nice analysis. Agree with your take. I'd be pretty bummed if the pick a TE at 27. For me it's oline or WR depending on whole is available. Bingo!

Of course both sides of the ball matter. I don't think anyone would be foolish to take an alternative stance. However, it's become pretty evident that the game has evolved and offenses win Super Bowls. Sure defenses have an important role in winning as does special teams, coaching, game planning, and execution. Ask yourself why does every team without a franchise type QB always search for one? Simple answer is elite QBs lead their team to Lombardi trophies. Defenses traditionally don't in this era of football. The Bears days are long gone. The two best defenses last year were the Eagles and SF. Both defenses couldn't get it done. The days of defenses winning championships has mostly dwindled away. Imho, the Bills should heavily invest in protecting Allen and getting him dynamic weapons. Dhop are you listening? This is the absolute best path for the Bills to hoist a Lombardi Trophy.
-
I'm being a little facetious here but I wouldn't mind every pick to be offensive. The game has dramatically changed and offense wins playoff games and super bowls not defense. The vaunted Philly offense was shredded by the Chiefs. The 49er defense couldn't get it done. Give Allen protection and more weapons. That's the absolute best chance for the Bills to win in the playoffs and make a Super Bowl run.
-
Depending on who is available of course; I wouldn't hate the Zay Flowers pick. Wright is the one guy I would prefer but it's unlikely he's there. I'm hearing he's moving up the board. I'm really not a big fan of drafting a TE this early. It's not a significant need and the Bills seemingly don't get their TEs overtly involved the the passing game. Big pass for me.

Sean McDermott excited about calling the Defense
newcam2012 replied to Sierra Foothills's topic in The Stadium Wall
I really think there's more to the story we don't know. What really irks me is that Fraizer seemed to get all the heat and criticism while McD seemingly remained unscathed. No doubt Fraizer deserved much criticism and I'm glad he's gone. However, McD is the head coach and a well respected defensive mind. He equally deserved criticism and perhaps even more. Yet, the Bills media and fans mostly adore McD as if he walks on water. I can't wait to see how the Bills defense performs. -

Sorry if the post offended you or got you upset. -
Very nice post. This fans base was used to losing for decades. McD and Beane built a winning culture and team in a short period of time. They absolutely deserve credit for that success. However, at some point they have to take the steps necessary to make super bowl appearances and win it all. Of course, that's the goal especially with Josh Allen as your QB. The last few years the regime has obviously fallen short. Early disappointing playoff losses. The players faces like Diggs and Allen says it all. As for me, I have my doubts if McD can get it done. Have my doubts that Beane can get it done. Why would I say and think that you might ask? Look at KC and their roster. On paper, how much better or worse are they then Buffalo? Same for Cinci? Imho, the major distinction and deciding factor between the teams are coaching, game planning, player development, and personnel moves like trades, free agents, and the draft. The Bills organization from coaches, the GM, and in between has prevented the team from further advancement. This isn't to say they are a poor organization. They are very good but seemingly not elite enough. So ask yourself are you happy with good to great regular seasons, winning the division, and only to fizzle out come playoff time? That's exactly what we've experienced the past 3 years. Perhaps the last 6 years. The needle has moved for me. The Bills have with little dispute one of the best QBs in the game. Super Bowl appearances and hopefully Lombardi trophies should follow. As time passes, I begin to wonder if the dream of winning a Super Bowl is a fantasy more than a reality. This year should really tell the fans a lot about the direction of the team. For that, I'm excited to see McD front and center.

I agree but hindsight is 20 20. Pickens looks really good. He was highly regarded by many pre draft. I believe he was rising up the draft boards come draft time.
-
Just look at his college tape. The guy is elite and will be an excellent WR. Way better skill set than Gabe. The Bills won't even give him a sniff because of his character flaws. Also, I highly doubt the Lions would trade him for his violation. This convo is nice but it's mute. 100% agree here. I'd be doing cartwheels if the Bills landed him with a second day pick. It would be the steal of the draft.

It remains to be seen if McD will preform better or worse. Certainly, he has more on his plate. What's clear is that he will be front and center. He will have no scapegoats or excuses. Accountability should be front and center. I like that McD is taking over the D. I believe this puts him in the put up or shut up category. It's exactly what the Bills need to evaluate if McD can move the needle and lead this team to a Super Bowl. -
He wasn't fine in 13 seconds nor in the playoff game vs Cinci. Two golden opportunities squandered resulting in disappointing playoff losses. At some point, I suppose fans might start looking at Coach McD in a different light. Thus far, he's been barely challenged for his mistakes by the fans and media. Buffalo certainly isn't New York, Philly, or LA. Six years and counting in which Beane had largely failed to do so.

I'll have to look into sling tv.

Great info here. I can confirm that this is true. My brother had a so so internet provider with decent speed. He was getting big time lags on Thursday night football. He switched providers and had better speed. Of course, it comes with a bigger price.
-
That doesn't seem like a deal to me. I'm going to miss the days of getting the ticket for free or $99. To boot, YouTube tv prices are going up. The sports package I like is around $72 a month. I suspect prices with continue to go up. Right now, I still have DTV with discounts applied. Still paying more than $72 a month. Decisions decisions. I hate changing over as I'm an old dinasour. Maybe my kids can find a nice bootleg way to watch the games with a VPN. Not my style but I wanna watch my Bills games. However, I suspect the Bills with have quite a few nationally televised games too.

Of course there are steps along the way. However, you are kidding yourself if you think players can just turn it on game time. Practice and preparation isn't game time, speed, pressure, or contact. Von can ride the bike, rehab, do wind sprints, participate in practice, etc.. Then suddenly appear in a game and play lights out. I'm not sure what world your living in. Sports don't work that way. Maybe he Will be a first...

That's called playing scared. Players need to play and be in game shape. Maybe he shouldn't even practice because he might get injuried. You do realize his injury was a non contact injury. Pretty much a fluke. I guess you are OK paying a guy 20MIL to be on a pitch count. Somehow that seems strange to me.
