Keep in mind that Beane can be very specific about what he says - and while I think he tells the truth, it's not necessarily the whole truth. He said "he hadn't called" any of the guys in the top-10. I'm sure that's the truth. It may not be the whole truth. It doesn't rule out discussions at the Sr Bowl, Combine, or NFL Annual Meeting. I would bet Beane knows very well what would be wanted for one of the top 10 draft choices to move all the way back to 28, from such discussions, and he knows it's a price he isn't inclined to pay. I think the more cogent point is that he mentioned stockpiling resources when he knew they were going to be trying to draft a QB - things like trading Cordy Glenn to move up from 21 to 12. The only thing Beane has done that could remotely be considered in that light, is trading Diggs, and it's not for much (2025 2nd)

I will say, I think Beane was trying a little too hard to persuade everyone that he thinks the WR room is just fine and we'll be casually looking to add another piece or two at some point in the future, not anxiously perusing the draft board for guys who have "WR" listed for position as our draft picks approach. But I agree with you that all signs point to "disinclined to make a big splash to move up to the top-10" I thought it was interesting that Beane mentioned "guys who are already on the roster" contributing at WR and made an analogy to Terrell Bernard who had to "prove it" that he could step up. Khalil, after the end of the season, I think has left no doubt he can play in the league although as a #1 or #2 is a good question. Does anyone think he might have been referring to Justin Shorter, last year's 5th round pick?

He knew he was going to get barbequed about trading away Diggs, and really, what can he say? "We might trade up, or we might trade back, or we might stand pat. I cant tell you." "We don't expect to trade the pick we got for Diggs, but I can't tell you we won't" It's like the Tolkein quote "Go not to the Elves for council, for they will say both No and Yes". I expected to see Beane's ears elongate up and grow pointy as he spoke. He's also very careful about what he says. "I haven't called". That doesn't exclude discussions during the Combine or Sr Bowl or NFL Meetings, does it? I'd bet Beane knows very well what it would take to move up into the top 10 slots, despite not calling.

I understand! My point is that it shows Beane is willing to trade back if the circumstances are right. He said he had a great trade-back he really liked on tap if it hadn't worked out to get Dalton Kincaid. Clearly he has a track record of trading up in the 1st round - I spelled it all out here. TL;DR in the last 5 years, he's traded up 2x, stood pat 2x, and swapped for a player (Diggs) once.

I mean, some of the responses Bills fans have made in response to Stef on social media do remind me of a saying we used to have about our family: "You can dress them up, and you can take them out to dinner....but then you kind of want to leave them there." They weren't pretty, let's call it straight. I heard what Joe Buscaglia had to say about how intelligent and self-aware Stefon Diggs was, and I'm sure when it comes to general intelligence and so forth Buscaglia is right. But I just can't see Diggs as very self-aware or having high "emotional intelligence" overall - more as someone who has charisma and can create a feeling of connection with someone else *when he wants to*, but it's not bone-deep genuine for most people. An example of why I think that would be a tweet Diggs made at the end of the 2022 Blizzard, when it was known that there were over 40 deaths attributed to the blizzard. At that time, continued restricted travel and closed businesses meant many people weren't able to get out and get needed supplies for their children or get needed care for their elders; and hardships would continue due to lost wages from blizzard-induced closures. Diggs tweeted something about how he was having to cook for himself, "0 of 5 stars do not recommend". It was mildly humorous and probably intended to be entertaining, but in context it came across tone-deaf and self-absorbed. A handful of other small things like that.

I also thought it was interesting that when the media asked him about whether it amounted to playing with a "second team", he specifically mentioned that he's been with Micah and Po "since I've been here, right?" and that losing them was going to hurt as far as being able to come in and talk to them not just about football but about life. Further in, asked about transitioning from Mitch Morse at C josh said "I love Mitch with every ounce of my being, he's one of the greatest dudes in the entire world, I truly mean that, and I think if you talk with anyone else they'd say the same. A lot of wisdom that he had, I wish him nothing but the best in Jacksonville. I got to spend a little bit of time with him the last couple of weeks, gonna miss him for sure." Near the end, when asked about Micah's charity softball tournament he said the same thing about Hyde that he was "one of the premier humans on this planet; his heart is always in the right place" and "he's meant so much to me and my career here, just being someone I could lean on, someone I could talk to, someone I could vent to, I hope he would say the same about me and I cherish our friendship." 1) I thought it was interesting - Tre' White has been here longer than Josh as well, but he didn't mention him in the same way 2) Josh came across as well-prepared to be asked about Diggs, but the things he did say - about "my lasting memory of Stef will be the receiver who helped me become the QB that I am today, and I'll always thank him for that" - didn't come across with nearly the same genuineness or intensity as what he said about Morse or Hyde or Po. For the "Josh doesn't work in the offseason" crowd, at about 6:30 in Josh talks about how he's "gotten some PT work the last couple months, making sure I'm staying on top of that and making sure my body is in the best shape it can be"

I watched Josh's presser. He started out being asked about all the moves that had been made, and he talked about losing a lot of veteran leadership "Stef being one of them". I thought that set a good context of Stef being only one of the losses, not necessarily the most important or serious even. He said he texted Stef "thanking him for everything he did for me and always have a spot in my heart for him and love that guy like a brother and wish him nothing but the best". Later in the press conference, Wawrow I think it was talked about fun vignettes with Stef and then Stef yelling at him and asked what would be Allen's lasting memory of Stef here in Buffalo? Josh obviously had a well-thought-out well-crafted reply: "my lasting memory of Stef will be the receiver who helped me become the QB that I am today, and I'll always thank him for that". I thought that was a great "high road" to take, and I hope that puts a cork in it as far as the Buffalo media is concerned (fat chance, I guess) I also wondered if Stef has been asked about Josh and what he's had to say about it? (But not enough to hunt down his interviews since the trade and listen). Rightly or wrongly, I have the impression that Stef is a guy who sees the speck in his brother's eye far more clearly than the log in his own. I think the same could be said by Stef of Josh, that Josh made him the receiver he is today as much as he made Josh the QB that he is today - and I wondered if Stef would see it that way.

In 2022, Beane did trade back twice, from 57 to 60 and then 60 to 63, before drafting James Cook So it's not as though he's never traded back.

Did you watch Josh's interview by any chance? He was asked about losing so many captains and what guys he thought would step up and be looked to as the next leaders He said he thinks guys who work hard and specifically go the extra bit are the ones who other guys naturally follow. He specifically called out Dion Dawkins and Spencer Brown as two examples.

Well, other people here are far more students of the draft than I. But if the draft is shallow at other positions, it also seems plausible to me that a team who sees a player at a position other than WR might be interested in trading up with the Bills, in order to secure that extra year on the player's contract AND assure themselves of getting him.

Yeah, Beane is often a straight shooter but he's not gonna say a thing before the draft. In 2023, Beane traded a 4th round pick (#130) to move up 2 spots from 27 to 25 to draft Dalton Kincaid. In 2022, Beane traded a 4th round pick (#130) to move up 2 spots from 25 to 23 to draft Kaiir Elam In 2021, Beane stood pat to draft Rousseau with Pick #30 In 2020, Beane had previously traded #1 pick #22 as part of the package for Stefon Diggs. He stood pat in the 2nd round to draft Epenesa In 2019, Beane stood pat to draft Ed Oliver with Pick #9 I would say you can tell a leopard by his spots, and a GM by his actions, and Beane's actions say he's more likely than not to trade one of our 4th round picks to move up a few slots if a player he likes is within reach.

While we're talking about nonsense, did you happen to observe my post querying you? You claim to believe the stats back you up on saying Josh Allen peaked in 2020 and hasn't improved in the last 4 years, so it seems only fair to ask you to explain specifically which stats you're pointing at. As for your claim in this post, no, you're missing the point (such a shock - Not). I don't hate Diggs, but if you want to extoll him as a leader, then shouldn't a leader take accountability in the media after the game? "Diggs fumbled a catch, and had a catchable ball that could have changed the course of the game go through his hands. Don't you think a leader should take some public accountability there? By the way, "engaging with the media" is contractually, under the CBA one of a players obligations, and it's also the part of a team captain to show leadership by stepping up to interact on behalf of the team, after a loss.

"Trust" is always going to be a part of a great QB's decision making. Receivers who played with Tom Brady talked about how they had to build "trust" with him - that after a season where they weren't happy with their targets, they traveled to where Tom Brady was working out, booked a room in a hotel, then busted their buns learning to run routes the way Brady wanted them to. Beasley talked about how he had to build trust with Josh, that they had to watch film together and talk about how he was going to adjust his routes if the defense did this or that, and then how he had to do exactly what he told Josh he would do even if he saw something different on the field he could exploit. Also, you talk as though there are no other outcomes of subsequent plays, but success. Diggs fumbled on his first reception of the game. Someone could fumble on the next play. Then there would be talk about how Allen had Shakir open in the end zone and passed up great chance at a TD to run clock. It's just not as cut-and-dried "throw to Shakir = bad, regressing QB; throw to wide open Diggs near the 1st down marker = good, developing QB".

I hope so, for Shakir. In his rookie year, I thought he was struggling to release off the line and to run crisp routes with quick changes of direction. In contrast, I was blown away watching him last season - big improvement, and no reason to think he'll stop. You may have been thinking of Diggs in last year's playoffs vs. Cincinnati, in which he was 4 of 10? The take-home for me, would be that didn't strike either of us as an outlandish stat to attribute to Diggs in a playoff game.

Facts: Shakir had 7 of 9 for 78% catch rate that game. Diggs was 3 of 8 (38%) with a fumble after the catch that wasn't a turnover only because Kincaid alertly batted it OOB for a 10 yd penalty. Why wouldn't Josh trust Shakir in the EZ if he saw him open over Diggs?

I'm sure we all want that, but how do your wants prove Josh peaked in 2020 and hasn't improved in any of these factors since then?

Since you offer as evidence Josh Allen's season stats from pro-football-reference.com, I'll offer you an opportunity; please share exactly what it is about those season stats that you believe proves Josh "peaked in 2020"? Please also loop back and give your answer to the evidence I presented elsewhere: in the 2021 season, Josh scored a TD on every drive vs NE against the playoffs on 1-15-2022 - a performance so outstanding it moved "student of the game" HOF coach Bill Belicheck to visit the Bills locker room after the game to offer congrats. He then completed 73% of his 37 passing attempts for 329 yds and 4 TDs against KC the following week. These are objectively far better results than the 2020 playoffs vs Indy, Bal, and KC. Please explain these statistical results in light of your hypothesis that Josh "peaked" in 2020 as well as from watching all of these games. I pointed this out before, I don't believe I saw a cogent argument from you in response, but perhaps I missed it.

Facts: Diggs was 4 receptions on 10 targets (a catch % of 40%) in that Bengals game. Knox was 5 of 7 for 65 yds. Shakir was 2 of 2 for 40. Milano had 10 tackles, a PD, 2 tackles for loss, and a sack. Obviously Diggs was the only one who wanted to win that game.

This is like a narrative from a fan "romance novel" section. Tanya Harding is the "toughest girl" skater because her husband kneecaps the opposition. Baloney, all those sequined little jumping jacks are tough as nails to take fall after fall after fall on ***** ice and get up and try again day after day. Brady refusing to shake hands with his opponent after he loses and it's justified as he somehow just hates losing so much more than anybody else. That's a big crock. He just never bothered to force himself into the basic form of good sportsmanship once he got famous enough to get away with it, until Fitz chased him down on the sideline one day. Plenty of guys on that Bills team wanted desperately to win, every bit as badly as Diggs did. Diggs just behaved worse than everybody else, during and after the game. He missed catches he could have made. He doesn't acknowledge his mistakes or take public accountability for them. Allen chose to throw to Davis, who had the ball knocked away on a very good play by the defender, and Diggs chose to try to distract Allen by yelling at him, when he's sitting with his QB coach working on decoding the Bengals coverage. Wow, that sure SHOWS US that he's the ONLY ONE ON THE TEAM WHO WANTS TO WIN! Where do you even come up with this stuff?

After trading a next year's 2nd round pick for a WR under contract for 3 or 4 more years at a reasonable (to them) cap since the Bills ate all his amortized bonus.....Houston turned around and VOIDED all the additional years of Diggs contract, adding his guaranteed money for next year into this year. They then converted most of his salary to signing bonus to pay him up front and amortized it over 4 void years (meaningless, unless they re-sign him) So Houston now traded a 2nd round pick next year, for a 1 year rental at a total cost of $22.5M fully guaranteed, structured as $5.88M this season and a $16.64M dead cap hit next season. Basically, Houston went "all in" to make sure Diggs would be as happy as possible this season; Diggs structured his contract to make sure Houston has cap space this season at the cost to them of a huge dead cap hit next season.
