I'm really starting to love this WR room. We quietly got better
Beck Water replied to JerseyBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
Beane was thinking that Harty, based on his 2021 NOR season, was an upgrade to McKenzie. Which, the 2021 version of Harty looked to be. But the guy looked slower than molasses and I don't think Dorsey understood how to use him effectively (either of them, actually). Sherfield was supposed to be the upgrade replacement for Kumerow, an ST guy who can play receiver in a pinch. On ST, Check. As a receiver, due to whatever was going on with Diggs, he turned out to be a Big Pinch, location of pinch left as an exercise for the reader. Harty may not have recovered from the foot injury that kept him out of 2022 - he did NOT look fast. Sherfield did what he was signed to do on ST and as a blocking WR, but he was asked to fill a different role in B'lo than Miami, where he was #3 behind #1A Hill and #1B Waddle. The Bills asked him to substitute for Diggs. News flash, he couldn't. I mean....clearly Beane thought the same thing about Harty vs Lil' Dirty, and he makes the Big Bucks to do those evaluations, so I don't think you should fault yourself much. I didn't think Sherfield was going to take playing time from Gabe - and I don't think Beane did either - but I believe Beane thought as a backup WR, he'd be an upgrade to Kumerow etc., and that didn't work out. FWIW I thought the same, because based on film available from 2021 it looked that way for Harty, and looked like Sherfield could actually play as a low-level starter. Bad takes for 2, please. -
Xavier Worthy injured during 1st practice as a Chief

Really? O'Sullivan was kind of the Nathan Peterman of his time, as best I can tell - "Catnip for Coaches", the Whiteboard/Film Room wizard whose brain wrote checks his arm couldn't cash on Sunday. He managed something like 8 seasons in the league, plus a couple more on practice squads, NFL Europe, etc. Even at lower salaries, he must have gone home with a few million dollars which I'm sure got invested decently, being a PhD. And didn't he work as a coach somewhere before starting his Jordan Palmer-like QB School digital coaching platform? Doubt he needs to be making Youtube videos for fans.

James Cook has less touches than Ray Davis over past 5 seasons
Beck Water replied to freddyjj's topic in The Stadium Wall
I would like to know this as well. -
I am 100% going to have to track this down and watch it. Dunno if anyone else caught them, but a local TV channel had Belicheck on before each game, breaking down plays on the "Belestrator" It was good stuff and always worth watching. Here's an example of Belestrator breaking down Jets film last season He's mostly breaking down the game with the Bills in that one, so there's Bills interest I think deep in his veins, Bill Belichick just loves football and loves to talk about football. I think that's the reason why ex-QB like Kurt Warner and JT O'Sullivan still put out videos breaking down film

<sarcasm. I'm sure you're intimately acquainted with the Hydes and have the inside track on Micah's mental state </sarcasm> I don't disagree Hyde should not be looked to as a solution for the season, and obviously Beane is of that mind or he'd be on the roster. There are at least a dozen other players at different positions who likely have close to 0 chance to make the roster at this point. I think we can safely surmise that if Browning had a real chance to beat out Martin at this point, Beane would have cut one of them.

Personally, I thought Terrell Burgess is more of a career Special Teamer. He's played in 43 games but only started 4; last season he played a grand total of 3 defensive snaps until the last 3 games of the season. On the other hand, he played 82% of the ST snaps for the Commanders and played a lot of teams for the LAR. I don't really think it has much to do with Bishop at all, other than him playing less right now means Hamlin gets more defense reps and they need someone to backfill on ST. (Kareem Jackson has never played much on ST)

I'm unsure about either the promising clues or the worry. I guess we can surmise it wasn't believed to be broken, because otherwise he'd be off getting it set. But tendon and ligament injuries can be as hard or harder to heal up. I wouldn't worry about the "nothing made public" though. If McDermott et al weren't required to speak to the media re: injuries, they wouldn't, ever. They are never required to speak to the media on a day off, so they won't. Plus, he may be in Buffalo getting further tests, specialist exams, etc
-
It's the snaps that are my big concern. It's not going to get easier to snap the ball cleanly when he's facing a 300+ lb behemoth who considers him the enemy and is hair triggered to knock his block off before trying to flatten the QB he is trying to protect**, when the game time weather is "monsoon" or "iceberg" etc **as oppose to a 300+lb behemoth who is hair triggered to knock his block off as the bestest of bros

When evaluating Poyer last season, it's probably important to keep in mind that 20-30% of the time, he was essentially being asked to play "linebacker lite" up near the LOS, substituting for Dodson and with Rapp backfilliing him at Safety But yeah, it was pretty clear he had lost a big step (Hyde too)

Has there been any news on the specifics of Bishop's arm injury? Even a mild hammy can take 2-4 weeks to recover. According to this article, there was an MRI study of sprinter's hamstrings 6 weeks post-injury which showed that even when the athlete perceived the hammy as healed, 20-55% were not fully healed. Apparently 16% of NFL players with hammys rush their return and re-injure themselves - not good. It's an older article, 2015, but well written and worth a look IMO

It's actually 241 combined targets, so 200 understates it. May have missed Hamler, Valdez-Scantling, and/or Claypool, or at least one of 'em. I understand your irritation, but while we may hope and believe that between whoever makes the team we have the ability to replace those targets, until someone or several someones step up in actual games, the questions will be there.
-
That last is a fair point, he did throw the ball down in what looked like disgust. Though depending upon how he rolls that could be in disgust at himself for double-clutching it
-
He and Gunner believe Keon's feet were not in bounds. I don't know how they can see that definitively from the video clip above, but that's why they believe it's incomplete.
-
The Bills kept 5 safeties last year by some listings, but one of them was Cam Lewis (who as we know is also the backup Nickel and has played CB in a pinch) Which I think amounts to agreeing with you - they're not going to keep 5 guys who just play safety. Do we even know yet what Bishop's arm injury is?
-
Dude, the Bills are not going to sign one safety to play "the Houston D scheme" against the offense while the rest of the team is playing their roles and responsibilities within a play call of the Bills D scheme. That's not how it works. Now maybe the coaches want to pick his brains some about elements of the Houston D scheme and what they could incorporate, that could be.
-
The second clip does not appear to me to show his feet at the point where he secures the ball after double-clutching it.
-
Wow. Bet Goff has that clip on his phone. Lions play the Giants in preseason Week 1, in the normal course of preseason neither starting QB would be likely to play. Yeah, Stroud over Mahomes or Josh at this point is nuts. Don't get me wrong, I think Stroud looks very promising, but at this point he's had one promising season and one playoff win, then a pretty decisive loss. I think Daboll has "Pygmalion Syndrome" where he thinks he made Josh Allen and he can make Daniel Jones, too. Maybe the random exec was Schoen or someone in his office?

The Allen-Diggs Relationship in Decline?
Beck Water replied to hondo in seattle's topic in The Stadium Wall
In hindsight, of course it appears significant, but Timmah Graham didn't make it public until when? Last April? After the Diggs trade took place? A case could be made that Graham himself didn't think it was that significant (whether that's good, or bad), or why didn't he report it at the time? My point was, I don't think any of us fans were going "Oh, OK, Diggs-Allen relationship broken, time for a trade!" during weeks 1-6 of 2023 season based on what we saw/heard reported on the field or off. -
1) these are different plays 2) all of our players have had good and bad plays - Douglas, Benford, Elam, Rapp, Hamlin, Bernard and yes, Milano It's impossible to get a full picture of how a player is doing from media training camp reports which are typically high-lights and low-lights Brasky has been kind of beating the "Milano Watch" drum I think as his personal way of drawing clicks and views I go with this Milano watch:
-
I understand that expectation, but actually, that's where I was last year after we lost Edmunds in the off-season and didn't have Von Miller. I was expecting a mid-pack defense and hoping it was good enough, and it exceeded my expectations Regarding Milano, it's the start of training camp and he's out there showing flashes. I'll see where he is at the end of training camp before being concerned.

Allen among most accurate passers on balls of 10+ yards
Beck Water replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall
Would be curious how this changes if the bar is moved to what the NFL considers a "long pass" (20+ yards from the LOS)
