Sweats 48 minutes ago: "choose to no longer participate in this thread" Sweats 21 minutes ago: (posts long screed about how he yearns for the day when emergency responders got to bag up un-belted ijits with their heads thrown through windshields and drunks were free to drive around murdering people "he didn't mean it, he was just drunk")

Well, it kind of helps me understand just how unconsciously privileged you are and have been all your life. I guaran-*****in-tee you there were guys (and if there were any gals, gals) on your job who felt they were better off keeping their mouths shut and not pointing out the crap said and done that was offensive. Either you had someone on the site who actually had a relative or relative's friend who was actually lynched and who didn't find your noose funny, OR the Good Old Days you mourn were good for a bunch of paunchy white dudes who got to scratch their gut and har-har about how their ideal woman is 3 ft tall, flat headed, and has no teeth. That's really what it's all about - whether or not there's a dominant group that gets to define acceptable humor, or whether the targets get a voice. You mentioned "30-40 years ago" The first Federal seatbelt law was passed in 1968. 30 years ago, it was illegal to not wear seatbelts in something like 48 out of 50 states. 40 years ago, not so much, but that changed about 2 years later. So the time you're mourning must be older than that. Poor little atavism. Can you even see the contradiction between saying "I don't care" and the stuff you're posting here? If you don't care, why even bother to post about it? Just let it slide off your back, the way I had to let all the racist and sexist crap I dealt with back in the '70s and '80s slide because I couldn't afford, mentally or financially, to let it derail me from my goals. Didn't mean I found it inoffensive.

Now this, is a very valid point KC does have that "easily outraged fans" bit going for them, starting with Brittney Mahomes getting all fluffed up and indignant that the networks dared to show her dejected husband on the bench during their SB loss to Tampa (never bothered her when the networks showed dejected opposing QB through the season)

Oh, come on, really? All the stadium anthems you can think of? "You really don't remember Was it something that he said? Are the voices in your head calling, Gloria?" Took the St Louis Blues from last place, firing their coach in November, to a Stanley Cup. "Blues Win, Play Gloria!" Can't find a single lyric in Mr Brightside that works. Brief search: "Comin' out of my cage and I've been doin' just fine Gotta, gotta be down because I want it all" "But it's just the price I pay Destiny is calling me Open up my eager eyes 'Cause I'm Mr. Brightside" seem at least a little relevant. You really can't logic these things. The song chooses the team and they run with it.

Why is McD not being talked about as coach of the year?
Beck Water replied to Antonio's topic in The Stadium Wall
What's Your Point? Mine is in the context of benching Fields. It is that the team was winning, and winning at a pace that would have given the Steelers their best record since 2020. I think it's pretty straightforward to understand why that's controversial. No one is asserting that projecting a team's record from the start of the season means much, especially this Bills fan who remembers the 5-2 start to 2011 quite well, but it seems kinda silly to waltz in, take something completely out of its context, and declare it meaningless. If you don't care about the context (the QB discussion, or the discussion of COTY to which QB is relevant) why respond at all? -
This. Not only played at Knox's wedding, but apparently when it came on the team rushed Knox and his bride and carried them around the dance floor. I don't know why that particular song. Maybe the stuff about going to bed and taking off her dress? They can't have conceptualized it as a song about the GF cheating and the BF being "Mr Brightside" and moving on - tots inappropriate for a wedding. Anyway, it's linked up with Good Times for the team, especially the TE group, and it's become their "thing" I don't think these stadium anthems catch on because of appropriate lyrics. I mean, Renegade is about a fearful criminal getting caught and punished, what exactly says "Go Team Go!" about that?

Perhaps you could explain to me, in the history of the world, how many people have been murdered by dildos? I can think of one, and that's just rumor.

How many times have you watched Josh's run?
Beck Water replied to Success's topic in The Stadium Wall
Indeed. Announcer calling game where LJax rushes for a TD: "Jackson is the only QB in the National Football League who can make those plays" Josh Allen: "Here, Hold My Beer" I think he was just signalling "1D". He expected Allen to slide after he got the 1D. Mack is still adjusting to the fact that he's now playing with a QB who gets lathered up by running people over. -

Many Kyle Whatshisname is SO over the top nowadays I really can't watch through these segments. -
I agree with you that I thought the Bills coaching decisions and strategy showed improvement over some of their previous meetings. I think you bring up a key point "injuries can certainly change things". We've had some pretty bad luck with injuries playing the Chiefs in the post-season. The key and unanswerable question will be, how healthy are we next time we meet?

What did you think of that golf clap by Kelce?
Beck Water replied to njbuff's topic in The Stadium Wall
I mean, on the football field, where he has 3 superbowl rings, 7 straight 1000+ yd seasons (and miss an 8th by 6 yds), 4 1st team all-pro's, and are the acknowledged "Guy" for arguably the best QB in the league right now, he IS a "main character", and he thinks he's always on camera because he pretty much always is? I grant you there's a "chicken and egg" syndrome there, does he posture and pose because he knows as a top player and Pat's go-to-guy there's always a camera on him, or is there always a camera on him because he can be counted on for a good "sound bite"? I haven't a clue what he's like away from football or when the cameras aren't there. Tidbits here and there suggest he may be kind of a dick, but the likes of me never gonna know. -
I'm pretty old too. Wanna compare timelines? 40 years ago was 1984. 50 years ago, it was legal and acceptable for banks to deny a credit card to a woman, because she was a woman. 56 years ago, it was legal and acceptable to deny a mortgage or refuse to sell a home to a black family. The attitudes behind that didn't disappear when the law changed. I don't know you, and I don't want to judge you - though you do seem happy to judge others - but I'd like to respectfully suggest that what you consider the "good old days" when you could drape nooses around your construction site and you think no one had "hurt feelings" or considered it "offensive", probably means that the people who found it offensive considered that they had to "go along to get along" and could not, safely, object. In my experience, when someone starts yelping about how "we live in an age of hurt feelings" where "people are easily triggered", what it really means is I could chat with them for 20 minutes and come away knowing EXACTLY what to say and what jokes to tell to offend THEM and have THEM squirming uncomfortably. /mic end thread

Now that would be EXCELLENT
-
If it's just tied to a stick to raise it up meh. If it's actually a noose, No.
-
I think you'd be an outlier then.
-
I think they did it because he's the QB of the Chiefs and they hate him, but I don't think people get a free pass to behave reprehensibly because they're fans and they're drunk.
-
I think it's way over the top. Hanging a player in effigy is crap. How would you like it if an opposing team had a doll showing Allen being hung, or stabbed, or bloody and dismembered? Then add in that Mahomes is black, and from Texas - a state that has a documented history of at least 600 lynchings of black people between 1896 and 1945 and it has racist overtones. Frankly, dismissing it as "fans being fans" is IMO not a good look for you. Dismissing anything that involves actual assault/murder or depictions of actual assault/murder as "fans being fans" or "boys being boys" or whatever is just..... Ick.

Why is McD not being talked about as coach of the year?
Beck Water replied to Antonio's topic in The Stadium Wall
The team was 4-2. That projects out to an 11-6 season. Wilson was a brilliant, HOF-trajectory QB once upon a time. But last year, he was rocking a mighty 205 ypg. Took 45 sacks, ANY/A of 6. TL;DR it's been a couple years since Wilson has played like a very good QB. So yeah, it was a controversial, somewhat ballsy move -
What did you think of that golf clap by Kelce?
Beck Water replied to njbuff's topic in The Stadium Wall
Seriously? I mean, his clappy reaction really didn't move a needle for me one way or another. The only F I give about Kelce when KC plays the Bills is his stats. 2 receptions for 8 yards, 6 YAC, no broken tackles - Color Me Content. But the man has been a big star in the NFL for a decade and is now attracting even more attention as Mr Taylor Swift. He just had a pass intended for him picked off. You better believe he knew the camera was on him in that moment. You're Joshin' -
Chris Simms made that point in his Unbuttoned episode. The idea is, in Zone, you got 6 spies.

Why is McD not being talked about as coach of the year?
Beck Water replied to Antonio's topic in The Stadium Wall
Tomlin took the Big Balls step of benching his starting QB when the team was 4-2 and had just won. Many prognosticators prognosticated that was a move that would end in disaster. The QB is the most important player on the football team, and Tomlin has 8 wins now with a team QB'd by a first-round pick who washed out in Chicago, and a former all-pro who couldn't get-r-done for 2 years in Denver - on a Denver team that is doing at least as well with a rookie now At receiver, they have George Pickens and who? Second round never-was Van Jefferson? 33 year old Cordarelle Patterson? 30 year old "Can now cover Mike" Williams? Right or wrong, the perception is that Tomlin is leading that team to over-achieve Let's all focus on this last part. Say it louder for the people in the back of the room: "Rarely does COTY win the SB" -

Why is McD not being talked about as coach of the year?
Beck Water replied to Antonio's topic in The Stadium Wall
I believe the thinking is that McD has one of the best QB in the league who creates on his own. Also, as another poster said, the Bills are expected to be perennially good now. The people who vote for that stuff don't read the fine print and say "how is he managing to have such a solid D when they've moved on from last year's starting safeties, they lost their all-pro LB before the season and their MLB for an extended period, how is the O managing when they started out thin at WR and injuries made them thinner" etc etc The perception is that McD is a solid coach but he's working with a full cupboard of player talent -
10 touches in the 1st half, 5 touches in the 2nd. Certainly wasn't being used as much. Still being run in the 3rd Q though, we just had a 3 and out, and a 6 and out prior to our drive that extended to score in the 4th. My guess would be got dinged some on that TD drive because Ray Davis took all the RB snaps after the 2nd handoff to Cook. Cook came back for a play in the 4Q TD drive and maybe decided he couldn't go after all (And Davis may have got dinged as that drive was Ty Johnson) I think the passing chart shows the Bills were trying to attack the edges as you suggest. I think the Chiefs will have a somewhat different defensive philosophy if we meet them with a healthier group of receivers. I think they looked at the cast on Amari Cooper's arm and said "you got Who? catching downfield passes?" so they really choked out the short stuff. If we have a couple guys with some success getting downfield, they won't feel that luxury.
