  1. Eeeeeeeeew, No. @boyst spoke about Travis Kelce as having "main character syndrome"; when I looked up "main character syndrome" in the dictionary, it literally had Aaron Rodgers photo over the entry. NOT a good wingman/supporting character which is what you want in your backup QB
  2. But the practical exigencies of an NFL roster dictate there is normally room for 2 QB on the 53-man roster. A third QB means the team is running thin at another position. And the backup is always one hard hit or UNC buzz-down away from going into the game. I'm sure Daniel Jones would love to be in the building and on the sidelines with a playoff contender, but if he expects to be on the roster of a playoff contender, I think he's gotta be ready to play
  3. the 49ers might be interested, depending upon what they think is going on with Purdy. I would say from what I saw tonight, Brandon Allen's grasp on the 49ers offense isn't linked to any actual ability to execute as an NFL QB.
  4. My point stands - if you're going by what you see, you need to have notes of every Allen game in each season. Otherwise, Recency Bias is a known thing. You want to say "I spy with my little eye that Allen has clearly taken more damage through half this season than he has any year since he got to the league and it's not arguable" well, you're correct that your contention it's not arguable, because you see it how you see it and you can fold in or exclude whatever you want in your "I spy" thing. But it's certainly not necessarily true. I think you're losing the script here. Why wouldn't one want to use completion %? If you want to contend that Allen got a "nap tap" in the Ravens game and should have been in protocol, then his completion % may very well have been down the subsequent week. It's the same contention I'm making about the Green Bay game - which he finished with a completion % of 52%, followed by 53% the following week in the loss to the Jets. In the Jets game, Allen had Diggs and Davis to throw to, as well as McKenzie and Kumerow. In the Houston game, no Shakir, just Coleman, as well as Samuel and Hollins - worse receiving group, worse completion %. Anyway, I'm Out, because as I said, if we're playing "injuries as detected by GoBills808's Mark IV Eyeball", there's no basis for discussion.
  5. If your standard is "I spy with my Little Eye" and not injury reports, in fairness you would have to have eyeball-saw-it notes for every game of Allen's career. Otherwise, as "Simon says", this is recency bias. For example, I think Allen got his "bell rung" in the 2022 Green Bay game, that being the reason a 24-7 drubbing turned into a game for the Pack, when Allen threw picks on back-to-back drives and his completion percentage plummeted in the 2nd half. At the time of the Ravens game, @Simon commented that wasn't Allen's first "turf nap". Again, I'm not saying there shouldn't be concern about Allen taking a beating, I'm just saying your contention "Allen has clearly taken more damage through half this season than he has any year since he got to the league" doesn't seem to be supported by facts. Allen has taken a serious beating every year of his career, and one can make an argument that this season (knock wood!!!!!) if anything it's a bit less.
  6. OK, so he's injured his L hand this season Rookie year: partially torn UCL, missed 4 games 2019: concussion, missed 0 games 2020: shoulder sprain, played in LB brace for 3 games and passed poorly for 4 2021: turf toe, missed 0 games 2022: partially torn UCL, missed 0 games but passing down for about 6 games 2023: shoulder sprain, missed 0 games 2024: L hand injury, may have dinged right hand on a helmet but did not undergo medical exam treatment ; examined for concussion but cleared I think there's some recency bias in the list because I'm pretty sure Allen was pulled from the game and examined for concussion in at least one previous year. So ?? where's the "clearly taken more damage" in the "damage = injuries" you cite?
  7. OK, so far it's looking as though I'm due for one helping of crow pie for thinking the Colts Lions might be a good game
  8. I don't see how that's clear at all. As I laid out in another post, on a per -game basis to date, Allen is running at a career low for sacks, close to a career low for QB hits, and at a career low for rush attempts per game. As far as I can tell, he's sliding more per rush attempt as well. What are you looking at to make this conclusion? Is it some sort of eyeball metric for "viciousness of the hit"? That's not to say that Allen hasn't taken too many hits and too much damage in his previous seasons, just that I don't see how it's clear he's taken more damage this season.
  9. You're right. If the 49'ers had Purdy, I think it's the GOTW. Without Purdy and Bosa I'm thinking it's a very bad matchup for the '49ers You could be correct - I could be giving the Pack too much credit and not giving enough credit to Shanahan's offense, which can adapt, it seems, to almost any QB I dunno though - Brandon Allen? Guy who couldn't see the field with the 2016 Jaguars? 2-7 record with Denver and Cincy? Less than 200 passing yards average? Just seems like a hella mismatch.
  10. OK, that TD to Knox against the Jets deserves more look. This link just takes you to the "Highlights", scroll down and click on "Josh Allen evades defenders to find Dawson Knox for 12-yard TD" You can slow it down for a better look. "OK, there's a gap, QB gonna come through and I'll tackle him....WAIT WAT?"
  11. Don't forget Dawson Knox. It was played at his wedding, so ya gotta get him in there somehow.
  12. That is Such a Thing of Beauty A Thing of Beauty is a Joy Forever Comments: - Watch 3:35. I still can't believe that play. Allen ducks BETWEEN Dawkins and the Jets defender DDawk is blocking. - at ~6:05 why is that not a "tackle out of bounds" penalty? Mine spouse, who is NOT a football fan, was walking behind me was I watched it and said "was that a penalty? He's (meaning Allen) out of bounds." If a total non-fan sees it, what's up with the refs? Is that the play where Spencer Brown had a "conversation" with Colts #20 and got fined for it? -Brown should have got a commendation for encouraging player safety if so - Love the use of "Mr Brightside" - Jimbo is Good Thanks for that Thing of Beauty, @HappyDays LOL at this Chargers fan responding to this video, though. SMH. SMDH.
  13. Well, if it's rare, then the odds of a loss when a better team plays an inferior team are small. Which would mean the trap is usually, in effect, not a trap. Because great teams play inferior teams every Sunday, and often it's coming off a big win When two teams battle hard, they usually come out bruised and battered and even if the injury report isn't horrific, almost all the key players are not at their best. So a letdown is hard to avoid. That's why the #1 seed and the bye week are so critical. The NFL would tell you an inferior team beats a much better team because of parity in the NFL - the margin between a great team and a losing team is smaller than people think.
  14. Probably more. I think it was an NFLPA/NFL agreement, so they may have flown all the reps to NYC for a meeting Since I think the fine schedule was set Before Covid made people understand that meetings could take place virtually
  15. Indy playing Lions this week KC playing Carolina and it should be ugly mOneSTErY STuPid Walk Dog GOOD - @hondo in seattle's
  16. Good question. How do you get your games? 506 sports says the networks are offering me an enchanting choice of Chiefs @ Carolina, which looks to me like Cruelty to Animals Or Lions @ Colts. I'm thinking that could potentially be a good game, one of the better early games. I thought Richardson looked pretty good against the Jets, whose D is legit. And the Colts had a legit chance to win 2 more games. The Lions just mauled the Jaguars, but Goff looked like the 2nd Coming of Peterdude against the Texans - really really bad decision making. So I'll be interested to see what the Colts can come up with. General question: NE vs MIA, who we want?
  17. Oh, now, lookie here https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/patrick-mahomes-fined-14-069-for-violent-gesture I had no idea this was a Thing the league was cracking down on. Valid points (Make that Chiefs fans across MO) I know you're a history guy; you may know this, but a lot of people don't realize that the "Trail of Tears" wasn't a single trail but a number of routes. But yeah, the major route and two others of ~5 went through MO and the damned war chant IS disgraceful. I think the suspended Kermit-in-a-Mahomes-jersey bothers some Chiefs fans (keep in mind I live surrounded by Chiefs fans now, the Turn-Coats) because they see it as specific and personally low-class vs. some of the Chiefs traditions that are low-class but not specific or personal IYKWIM?
  18. I hope they're looking at Purdy's neck. I had a lot of pain in my shoulder at one point, and it turned out to be my neck. I mean, it was my shoulder too (I needed to strengthen a bunch of small supporting muscles) but the genesis of the pain was in my neck. Injection in my neck calmed things down to the point where I could do the shoulder exercises.
  19. Yours is certainly a defendable POV. I think Jones has the potential to be better than Mayfield - better physical tools, better ability to run. But I think Jones needs the right pieces around him and the right coach more than Mayfield does.
  20. Living in St Louis, I got the inside scoop on the Bradford story. And Bradford kind of gets a bad rap. TL;DR inept coaching and untimely injuries derailed him. Yeah, he was the last Super-highly paid rookie who hadn't proven his NFL worth. But you can't blame him for that, it was the system at the time, and I truly believe Bradford was one reason teams pressed for that change. OK, Bradford year 1. Looked pretty decent under Steve Spagnuolo with Pat Shurmur as his OC. Keep in mind as HC, Shurmur also made Daniel Jones look pretty decent his rookie year. Too many INTs, but that's not uncommon for a rookie QB. Keep in mind the Rams were a terrible, no good, very bad team in 2009 (1-15) and with Bradford, they were actually a final game loss away from the playoffs! Bradford year 2. Spagnuolo loses Pat Shurmur to be HC of the Cleveland Browns and hires.......Josh McDaniel, who was just booted out as HC of Denver. It was horrible. McDaniel of course installed his super-complex and totally different terminology E-P offense. Now I grant that the Rams were still fundamentally a bad team who over-performed the previous season, but Bradford looked inept, totally inept. But he looked promising his rookie season! Was it Bradford, or was it McDaniel? Bradford also missed 6 games with injuries and ended on IR. Bradford year 3. Jeff Fisher takes over as HC, and hires Brian Schottenheimer as OC. Keep in mind that Schottenheimer was a guy who made Sanchez look OK. So once again, Bradford looks promising. He looks like he can play in the NFL. He delivers enough QB performance that a team could win with him. But at this point, the guy has had 3 different offensive systems and 3 different OCs in 3 years. Bradford year 4. 2nd year with Schottenheimer. Bradford finally looks like he might live up to his billing and be what the Rams hoped. First 7 games, he's hitting 70% completion at times, he's thrown 14 TD to 3 INTs - really looks good. Then, he tears his ACL and goes on IR. Bradford year 5. Lost season. Bradford re-tears same ACL in preseason game, and he's Done with the Rams. So yeah, the Rams didn't get their money's worth out of Bradford, but IMO it was largely a self-inflicted wound combined with some bad injury luck. With the Eagles, they re-united Bradford with Pat Shurmur and he played pretty well once he flaked the rust off. But, they fell in love with Carson Wentz and kicked Bradford to the curb, so he asked to be traded. With the Vikes, again with Shurmur, Bradford played well until his knee gave out on him and Keenum took over. I don't remember a TSW campaign? But I do remember a game where Daboll was seen SCREAMING at Josh on the sideline after an interception Reportedly Allen had a deep conversation with Beane and McDermott after that game, where he made promises to them to change his ways (this is by Allen's account). But the very next week, Daboll moved to the booth and never moved down, so there may have been some "what can we do to support you better?" discussion on their side as well. With Dorsey, the players had a campaign to put him in the booth, and after the Miami loss we saw why.
  21. True but irrelevant to the point I was addressing
  22. I think Russ Wilson in Denver should get honorable mention, at least, or maybe runner-up And how about Aaron Rodgers in NY?
  23. Correct idea, but Douglas was playing with a bum ankle, Benford was not playing (Dane Jackson played 100% of the snaps), and Dodson was playing next to AJ Klein with a wrecked shoulder in a brace. Gabe Davis was also out.
  24. https://bleedinblue.com/posts/st-louis-blues-play-gloria-01j08qgq5hyy 16-19-4 pre-Gloria 29-9-5 with Gloria No worries, it wouldn't work for the Marine Mammals. The song has to find the players and they have to believe in it.
