I do gather that leadership falls from the top, hence my acknowledgement of @GunnerBill's point about the follow-on from Dorsey's early season tantrum. I'm actually not aware of Diggs "repeatedly saying" (in pressers I assume you mean) that he's not worried about targets, he just wants to help us win. Josh Allen has said that about him. Diggs has been caught on tape yelling "I want the ball! I want the ball!" Another WR has been quoted saying he was trying to calm Diggs down one game when he was yelling that he needed another TD (this was a game when he already had 3, and 12 receptions), and another time that Diggs was upset that he wasn't getting his targets. He was recorded on the Dawson Knox "mic'd up" segment saying "Tight Ends, I need y'all to chill, I need my Bag" and afterwards Beasley (who had 1 reception on 1 target) saying "I'm lucky I got my hands on that *****". Maybe he's joking and he really is delighted to see the TE getting receptions and TD, IDK. Josh will say one presser that the offense works best when we spread the ball around, and next presser that we need to find more ways to get Diggs the ball. So at the very least, there seem to be some "mixed messages" out there. I don't think Diggs is being held to a much higher standard than anyone else. I'm pretty sure that everyone in the locker room is sick to their stomach at the loss, and I don't think it's true (unsure if you said this, but others have) that Diggs is the only one who played hard. Knox for example, 5 receptions for 65 yds. But Diggs is the only one who had a visible tantrum on the sideline and then dipped on the post-game lockerroom and media This is something Josh had learned to do last year and earlier this season, and somehow seems to have edited out of his vision again. I'm not sure if it's him or Dorsey either, but the team needs someone in-house and preferably on the sideline who can reach Josh and get through to him. Because he can do all the off-season stuff he wants with Palmer, but that doesn't mean it will last through the season on Sunday

That IS a fair point that sometimes, even though undesireable, it's better to leave than it is to stay and do/say things you might regret or that might prove more problematical.

Time to go all in on the OL - The grades
Beck Water replied to ArdmoreRyno's topic in The Stadium Wall
yes, Dawkins and Morse. This might be controversial, but I think Dawkins played better last season next to Bates, so one might consider going Dawkins-Bates-Morse and looking for help at RG/RT I was disappointed in Aaron Kromer. I thought Beach Chairs helped us put together a pretty decent OL when he was here before. Bates was the #2, but several times when Morse went down, Bates was already out of the game (or went down) and Van Roten replaced him. I was NOT a fan of Van Roten at C, but I'm not sure how life looks with the #3 guy at C across the league - probably not good. -
I don't know that I agree 100%. It might be, but it also might indicate that the Love-and-Togetherness vibes are only skin deep and underneath the hood is some pretty strong infighting about who gets the targets and how the plays are designed. That won't help.

I actually hadn't made that connection, but @GunnerBill has a point. Once the OC loses his Shite publicly like that, it makes it harder to call on the subordinates and to maintain control.

Wow! That's harsh, towards a guy they chose to present with a contract that gives them an $89M dead cap hit next year.

Answer to one of my questions Sean McDermott was available this afternoon about 4:30 pm If that doesn't work https://fb.watch/ieXDqBLb_G/ may do it The link on the Buffalo Bills website appears to be broken and/or the video taken down - it does need editing badly because the camera kept zooming in and out, it was rather obnoxious But here's their in-house media coverage of it, for whatever it's worth: https://www.buffalobills.com/news/top-5-takeaways-from-bills-hc-sean-mcdermott-s-season-ending-press-conference

Dave Myers? Founder of the "BuiltinBuffalo" Buffalo Bills Digital Media brand. In other words, Bills fan trying to build a podcaster/social media type presence Like a lot of these guys, may have some connections with people who work for the Bills or know a few players.

To me, this is (pardon my language) the Tom Brady excuse. Every other QB seeks out the opposing QB after a loss and shakes his hand and exchanges a word or two. Tom Brady apparently hates losing so much more than everyone else and is such a passionate competitor that he simply can't bring himself to do this after a loss (leading to Fitzpatrick running after him and making him shake once after he won LOL) The whole team is super-frustrated. We have OLman who I guarantee are out there after getting their knees drained and injected with cortisol every week, pumped full of Toradol. Do we think Beasley isn't frustrated? Davis? Knox? etc. But they understand that part of being a teammate is being there for your guys, and part of being an NFL player is meeting with the media. So Diggs, like Tom Brady, apparently gets a pass because he just hates losing more than anyone else that he can't stick around and shake hands and stay in the locker room and hug his teammates? When they made him a Captain? When he talked about embracing that role? I call shenanigans He isn't a fiercer competitor than Allen Or Morse for that matter though he has that 'gentlemanly' affect after the whistle The whole team hates losing

"Allen struggles processing those" is a puzzling take to me. Last season, Allen seemed to be pretty good at reading zone and finding his answers. It seems to me that if he's struggling now, there must be something to be said for the concept that this year, there aren't as many answers to be found. Last season we had Beasley and Sanders, who both could pick apart zone, and we seemed able to protect enough to have Knox out on the field instead of releasing after he chips.

Futures signings from the PS. Nothing to be too excited about, but worth noting that we offered futures contracts to WR Dezmon Patmon (former Colt PS guy who bumped Tanner Gentry at the end of the season) and to KeeSean Johnson and both accepted; also offered contracts to both Eli Ankou and Brandin Bryant at DT. Oh, and Barkley Yeah, that's gonna be interesting to see what kind of interest his agent drums up for him.

I'm unclear on Phillips. He can be awesome, but he can also Leave Home pursuing pass pressure and leave gaps in run D, or pull stupid stunts like chasing around the backfield like a chicken and hurting himself falling down.

He got 10 targets By the way there's this:
-
Chase gets the ball because if you double up and clamp down on Chase, there's Higgins and Boyd. When they hurt you enough, Chase gets his shot. Hill gets the ball because if you double up and clamp down on Hill, there's Waddle There's been discussion on this, but Kelce gets the ball because if teams take him away (and it's hard to take away a fast, nimble route runner who is 6'5" and 256 lbs), then the Chiefs have a dangerous run game with Pacheco and Smith-Schuster has been a quite respectable #2 with close to 1000 yds (933) and a 77.2% catch %. Jefferson is more of a situation towards Diggs - he's overwhelmingly the best receiver on the team, and it's a tall order because he's young and fast and able to pull in those contested balls, but if another team succeeds in taking him away one of two things happen: either Osborn and Thielen step up and take over the game, OR the Vikes lose Diggs really needs to sit down with someone - his WR coach, Josh, Beasley, someone - and look at the plays and understand that when he thinks he's open, maybe he's really not open at the time when Josh needs to throw. Or maybe he could look at plays and figure out how he should be running his route differently to get open at the right time, or give input in play design that he thinks would get him open better. But Twitter is NOT the way.

Yeah, we're pretty much aligned. Though, as soon as a player starts yelling into air on the sideline rather than talking to a teammate or coach, I think that's pretty much the Universal Signal for "Team Has Already Lost, No Comeback Possible", so there's that. But I can understand venting frustration on the sideline, throwing a helmet or yelling - it's not constructive, but it's going to happen. But the rest - yeah.
-
I may agree, I may not agree, but say more No, I'd rather he not accept losing and go ahead and be mad about it, but don't act like a toddler "Imma take my Ball and Go Home". He's part of a team. He's a captain on the team. He's supposed to be a leader. Lead.
-
That's pretty much where I am. We don't want him to be OK with losing, or OK with play that's not up to their standard. But he's a Captain, and wants to present himself as a leader on the team. He can be not-OK with losing and not-OK with play that's not up to their standard while being there in the locker room and there for his teammates, and dealing with any of his issues in house.
-
I think you want to have a line that can taking the field (even if you want to improve it) before hitting FA then the draft. IMHO Boettger coming off an injury should be pretty cheap, though with him being inactive I don't know how they see him. I don't remember Lee Smith being a "whipping boy" here?
-
You know I watch Kittle for SF, Kelce for KC, and even Goeddert for Philly and it's increasingly difficult for me to roll that way. Yeah, if we can't get an OL that can protect better at least get a Lee Smith type TE2 who is a mauler in pass pro and Free Knox

Bengals will be the team to beat for years to come
Beck Water replied to Niagara Dude's topic in The Stadium Wall
You know, it all depends. Time was when this was said about Houston. We'll see. A lot of their secondary are FA, including both safeties Jessie Bates and Von Bell; CB Tre Flowers, and Eli Apple (heh). Their MLB Germaine Pratt. TE Hayden Hurst. Then they need to start working on a long-term contract for Joe Burrow. DJ Reader and their LT Jonah Williams are FA in 2024; Trey Hendrickson and Joe Mixon in 2025. If the Bengals put on a good showing in the AFCCG, smart teams will be trying to hire Lou Anarumo as their HC. Brian Callahan (their OC) is already interviewing for the Colts HC position. QB coach Dan Pitcher has been mentioned as a strong candidate for the Chargers open OC position. Yes, they look like they're in a good situation right now, and probably for next year, but a lot of things can happen.
