  1. When a team drafts a guy in the 5th round, they generally hope he can develop into a good player, but they aren't counting on it. I don't think the Bills "suddenly lost faith" in Shakir. I think they looked at him as a 5th round player - a guy with a lot of potential, who had played at a low level of competition, and who was gonna need time to develop. He did some good stuff last season - made some excellent downfield catches - and he had some struggles. He had some early inactive games and some early chances at significant playing time, and what he showed didn't bump him up the depth chart. He started getting more playing time towards the end of the season, but I don't think he ever got to a point where they were like "Yeah, he's Da Man" at slot. I would absolutely support drafting OL early, but I think we've drafted enough late-round WR and we really need to make an early round investment. Among other things, I did an assessment a while back of, if a player became a solid starter in the NFL, how long did it take? Of course individuals varied, but overall players who were drafted in the 1st-2nd round were usually starting by their 2nd season if they were going to start. But, starting players drafted in the 4th round or later could take 3+ years to earn a starting shot.
  2. Well, hopefully the baby (if any) and its mama gets appropriately supported. If all this was going on last fall around Halloween/Nov as the Reddit tealeaves claim, baby should be showing up in the next couple months (late May-June) I'm not condoning cheating. I do remember an interview with a famous woman singer who had a relationship with a star musician for a while. She said "one thing I never expected was fidelity; they get so many opportunities". I mean there's Josh flying home at 2 am and there's a young woman holding up a sign "Josh Allen Will You CreamPie Me?" FWIW Williams was still posting pics of them after the playoff win vs. Miami and posting messages after the Bengals loss. https://people.com/sports/who-is-brittany-williams-josh-allen/ On the other hand, I seem to remember in his interview the next day, one of the reporters asked if he planned to train with Jordan Palmer and Allen said something about "I don't know if I'll be going to California" which I thought at the time was kind of weird since he has a house out there.
  3. Maybe I stuck my foot in a thread where everyone is stumping for a 1st round pick at RT. I dunno that I am, and I dunno enough about Darnell Wright. If a guy is strictly a RT, I would agree with you, that's not a hugely valuable trade chip. But there are several recent instances of guys who were playing RT for one team, got their shot to show what they could do at LT, and then demanded a trade to keep playing LT (Orlando Brown of course being one).
  4. I don't think this can be over-emphasized. The worst thing that happens if we have a promising rookie and Spencer Brown starts pass protecting like his jock's on fire and blocking impeccably will put it out, is we have a very valuable trade piece. It did not go unnoticed to me that in 2021, Dion Dawkins kinda sucked at the start of the season after recovering from Covid. Then he missed a game week 15, Spencer Brown started ahead of him at LT in Week 16 then got hurt. Dawkins came in and played extremely well, leaving no doubt who the Big Dawg at LT was. Competition is good
  5. It's the reason continued success from a team is not to be taken for granted Look at the Houston Texans. In 2019, they beat us in a playoff game. Made our #2 overall defense fold like a cheap lawn chair to squander a 16-0 lead in the 3rd Q, and shut down our offense. They were even beating the Chiefs, in Kansas City, 24-0 in the second Q. Next year they went 4-12 despite Watson playing out of his mind, passing for 4823 yds with 33 TD and 7 INTs. And they haven't had more than 4 wins since. That's how fast it can all fall apart.
  6. That’s really not an apt analogy at all, but carry on
  7. It's a valid point that his effort in planning said shredding session may be "call my personal assistant, give him a budget and tell him 'make it so' in which case, sure, it's a recreational activity equivalent to any night out. It's also a valid point that given two people of roughly equal talent, the one who is most obsessed with putting in the work will tend to go further, while the "part timer" may slide And I really do dislike when people do the straw man "you think..." projection thing. Given that I actually wrote "it is just OTAs, I suppose you can't live and breathe them 24/7", this seems lamer than the usual. Doesn't have to be against the Chiefs for me.
  8. I could see him being able to craft a story that would be relatable and very inspiring
  9. I personally kinda feel he should concentrate on being the best player for the Bills he can be - it was great that Christian Wade was a fine drummer but would have rather seen him be a fine American football player. But maybe that's my inner Grinch talking....I know there are a fair number of guys on the Bills who are interested in music - Tim Settle I believe has a recording studio in his basement etc - and it is just OTAs, I suppose you can't live and breathe them 24/7
  10. Oklahoma State University Alum and Bills trainer/first responder Denny Killington to be the commencement speaker at OSU
  11. Seems appropriate
  12. Did that honestly surprise you though? In 2013, Buddy Nix was telegraphing "we're gonna draft a QB this year" so loud that the -.. .-. .- ..-. - / .- / --.- -... was imprinted in every reporter's notebook And there was lots of "smoke" about having had a horrid interview with Geno Smith, and a lot of stuff about how respectful and well mannered EJ was. So it was not a surprise to me that we drafted a QB, or that the QB we drafted was Manuel. I'm not saying I wanted it - just saying I wasn't surprised.
  13. I dunno about "many mocks", but Lance Zierlein on NFL.com graded him as a 1st round pick, as did Prisco and Trapasso: https://www.nfl.com/prospects/kaiir-elam/3200454c-4155-0002-a198-92eda6859fa9 https://dknation.draftkings.com/2022/4/28/23016692/kaiir-elam-nfl-draft-scouting-reports-fantasy-football-mock-draft-cornerback-bears-chiefs-texans
  14. I would have to say TJ Graham in the 2012 3rd round. Russ Wilson was on the board and there had been murmurs about "can't measure the heart of a player" that Nix liked him. It was evident at that point that the Bills really needed to draft and develop a QB. Kirk Cousins was also on the board. A 3rd round pick would be a totally reasonable investment in a guy who could learn behind Fitzpatrick. So the Bills traded up and my pulse accelerated and I was thinking "they're gonna draft Wilson!"...."TJ WHO?" The Bills got 31 games and 54 receptions out of Graham in 2 seasons. In the same 2 seasons, Russ Wilson lead the Seahawks to the Divisional Round and won a Superbowl. Then in 2013, one of the worst QB classes ever, the Bills drafted EJ Manuel.
  15. I am so behind the fair on this. Ya Hate to See It 😇
  16. OK, crass to follow up my own post. But on this listen, I caught the name of the trainer Josh said he works with - Ryan Flaherty, Josh calls him "Flaher Bear". So I googled and here is some of his stuff, talking about what he sees as "do's and don'ts" for QB workouts. No bench press, what he recommends instead. https://www.stack.com/a/quarterback-guru-ryan-flahertys-workout-secrets/ and an older article https://www.mensjournal.com/sports/money-lift-how-top-flight-trainer-discovered-most-important-exercise-every-athlete
  17. Edit: to answer my own question, I figured it out - "PFA" = "priority free agent", guys FAMbase doesn't expect teams to draft but expects them to be interested in. I'm wondering how up-to-date said list is?
  18. Great question. I think it might have been one of those pre-game interview sessions Chris Simms does before Sunday Night football? *rummage rummage* yeah, here it is. Discussion of how he works out 15 minutes in. I think people are misunderstanding what he said, he said he doesn't do barbell lifts or military press, does do some dumbbell lifts, focus is on keeping his upper body flexible and pliable - that's a lot different from not doing upper body workouts or upper body strength training at all. Anyway the whole interview is really good IMHO, Josh talks about his mechanics a lot and you get to watch him standing there just tooling around with the ol' Arm Cannon for most of it. Good listen.
  19. Not doubting you, but wondering from that photo how he looks "bad thiccc"? Serious Q Looks like he muscled up his calves, thighs and butt, which several running QB have discussed as being important for speed
  20. Dude, if our competition for #2 receiver next year is between Davis, Shakir, and Sherfield all I can say is that Beane isn't paying attention to what's going on offensively. Don't get me wrong, I think Sherfield is a totally reasonable pickup by Beane for $1.77M as a guy who may be a step up from Kumerow as the #5 WR who must contribute on ST and can maybe do a better job actually playing WR in case of injuries, or see the field as a downfield blocker. Sherfield couldn't crack the lineup in AZ or SF. Now I'll grant that in AZ, he was behind Fitzgerald then Hopkins, Christian Kirk, their TE, and Andy Isabella in whom they invested a 2nd round pick. In SF, he was behind Deebo Samuel, Kittle, Aiyuk and then Juan Jennings came on. But still, we're talking about wanting to improve our WR talent to compete with the best in the league, so....if he can't beat out 7th rounder Juan Jennings, or Andy Isabella who looks like a 2nd round bust right now, that looks like a bit of a "maybe" to hang your hat on as a potential #2. He had a reasonable year in Miami as the #3 WR behind two #1 WR who kept opposing DCs awake at night (Waddle and Hill), Good for Him. We didn't think McKenzie's 423 yds on 42 receptions and 64.5% catch % on 54% of the snaps were good enough production for #3, so I assume we wouldn't have thought Sherfield's 417 yds on 30 receptions and 58.8% catch % on 60% of the snaps is enough. As the saying goes "Maybes don't fly in September"
  21. So in Astro's notebook, what is "PFA" as in his notes "None in PFA" "2 PFA" etc? If I'm understanding correctly, the numbers circled at each position represent the player's ranking on Astro & Associates "BuffaloFAMbase Big Board" at https://buffalofambase.com/2022/05/23/big-board-buffalofambase/ Which actually makes it a bit hard to interpret since that Big Board is apparently updated regularly. For example, it references a LB at #35, but currently LB Trenton Simpson is the closest LB at #34; it talks about a QB at #52, but #52 is currently LB Jack Campbell. The closest QB is Hendon Hooker, currently #57 etc etc.
  22. yeah, I don’t know that guy’s sources, but, he had ‘em
  23. Ryan Talbot put this out https://www.newyorkupstate.com/buffalo-bills/2023/04/nfl-draft-2023-buffalo-bills-top-30-visit-zoom-and-private-workout-tracker.html
  24. I remember what you're talking about. It might have been a link to Dean Kindig ( @Astrobot) who no longer posts here? If I'm remembering correctly, it was Some High Level Stalking - tracking the visits Beane and his various FO team and scouts had made to different college campuses and games during the Fall College Football Season. Is that what you were looking for? No, if I'm correct, that's not what he's talking about. He's talking about something that actually tracked Beane's visits during the fall.
  25. I guess you're correct that I did read like "completely dismissing him". I suppose the "conspiracy theory" tone of his filing ticked me off, along with what seems to be the implication that because Fred's Honda Civic or Aubrey's Audi avoided a collision, therefore a loaded truck should be able to do so or it's negligent driving/bad maintenance. Some of our relatives drove over-the-road and then county maintenance trucks for years, so we've heard lots of stories about what life looks like on that side of the steering wheel. I do understand @1ManRaid's point that it's the litigator's job to cast a wide net for initial discovery. Yeah, I didn't understand that part, unless the police at the scene did not consider him a "DUI suspect". I looked up Florida law and you're right as far as DUI: I guess what the lawyer is saying is that the truck driver wasn't considered a DUI suspect so the police didn't insist upon a blood sample at the scene, they asked and he declined? Because otherwise, you're right, he doesn't get to decline.
