  1. I think you need to raise your standards for a player worth sweeping things under the rug for, at least to 2016-2017 McCoy. Hold out for 1600 yards from scrimmage, MINIMUM. Here's an idea. He and Singletary have the same number of Y/Touch. Singletary has 55 fewer touches, 80% of the touches Mixon got. So couldn't we just keep Singletary, give him more touches, and get 1373 all-purpose yds instead without "living on the edge" that the payoffs won't work this time?
  2. Au Contraire, mon vieux, barring future incidents where the victim does not "settle privately", he will be there on opening day as though nothing at all occurred.
  3. This reads a lot like "the payment came through" I think the above should read "it isn't clear if she has recanted that claim AFTER a private settlement was worked out between the parties" I wonder how many of these incidents get swept under the rug because a "private settlement is worked out between the parties" before charges get filed. Where's that Bengals fan @Caesar to tell us that Joe Mixon is a sober and godly youth who is kind to kittens and carries the groceries for little old ladies in between church services?
  4. I'm not sure who exactly besides Taron Johnson gots coached by the "Nickel coach". Siran Neal? Cam Lewis? Someone on the practice squad? The Bills had no "Nickel coach" in 2022. Salgado became "Nickel" coach in 2020 after being a "Defensive Assistant" for several years. Taron came into the league in 2018, and took about 60% of the snaps in 2018 and 2019, rising to 77% in 2020. Did Salgado "develop him" or, was it a "cream rises to the top" situation? Salgado became safeties coach in 2022 after Bob Babich retired and Bobby Babich switched from Safeties to LB coach. Veterans Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer probably need coaching about like dogs need fleas. But when injuries strike and we have to play backups - that's when the coaching really matters. Was Salgado a scapegoat, or did he fail to teach and drill the young guys in the scheme? Because if a player is in the right place, and gets beaten by a better player, that's probably not on the coach. But if the player is not in the right place and a scheme which depends a lot upon deception and after-the-snap adjustments has to be simplified to the point where it's pretty vanilla, then maybe the coaching has a role. And that latter appears to be what we were dealing with. The normal McDermott MO with a long term staff member would be to quietly let him seek another position and leave, then hire someone else. The fact that Salgado was quickly and publicly fired, says to me that when the issue of the young safeties scheme mistakes was brought up, maybe Salgado didn't show the "growth mindset" but instead pretty much said what you've said above - "look at everything I've dealt with at that position, no one could have succeeded". Well, Safety is going to be a critical position for us next year because who knows if we'll have 1, 2, 3, or 0 experienced safeties on the field by the 2nd week of the season. So "look at everything I've dealt with" isn't going to cut it.
  5. Here's an article about his resume https://www.si.com/nfl/bills/news/buffalo-bills-joe-danna-hire-safeties-coach-offseason-sean-mcdermott-houston-texans
  6. https://www.forbes.com/sites/nicholasreimann/2023/02/02/cincinnati-bengals-joe-mixon-issued-arrest-warrant-for-allegedly-pointing-gun-at-woman/?sh=52627dc54a4d January 21st - day before Bills division round game His agent says it'll be dropped tomorrow morning, Nothing To See Here
  7. Interesting. Who are these 31 backs who are better? Sure, there are teams who have 2 backs who are better. I'm interested in the other teams that have 1 back that is better or just as good Some Motor stats: Total yards 26th Attempts 30th 20th in Y/A 57th in fumbles with 3 Hard to find stats on this but Singletary is excellent in pass protection
  8. The "right before the Superbowl" may be looking for press The 3 year timeline doesn't surprise me a bit though
  9. Darryl Williams? It's hard to tell if he retired because "it was time" or because he didn't get any offers he wanted Kinda like Beasley "I'm retiring" after Tampa didn't promote him off the practice squad and expected him to play ST
  10. With all respect to PFF for the stats they do well, I think it is fairly well established that their OL grading is probably not to be relied upon. I'm not arguing for or against Kromer - I was disappointed in our OL this season But the real grading and evaluation comes internally
  11. OK, but in the last 2-3 years we have not so top notch results from these offensive HC: Kliff Kingsbury Arthur Smith Matt Rhule Matt Nagy Kevin Stefanski Nathaniel Hackett (I know, but he was regarded as an up and coming offensive coach) Matt LaFleur Adam Gase Josh McDaniel Mike McDaniel Dan Campbell (you might argue if a couple should be included, I might argue if Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay should be included as an up and coming offensive coach after 6 years each, anyway....I also omitted older offensive coaches getting their first shot after decades like Frank Reich, Darrel Bevell and David Culley ) My point is, for 4 highly successful offensive minded coaches, you have 11 who have not been successful as yet or who have flat-out flamed out. And that's just going back 3 years not the 6 that Shanahan and McVay have been coaching. So 4 out of 15, a bit better than 1 in 4 odds of finding the "right" up and coming offensive coach as your next HC, perhaps? I'm sure all of the guys on the above list had people passionately arguing for them as the Next Big Thing
  12. "no wideouts left from when they won the Superbowl" factually, Mecole Hardman He isn't a star, but as their #3, he has contributed a steady 3-4 receptions/40 ypg (this year he was injured and missed 9 games though) But The Chiefs top receiver the year they won the Superbowl, 2020, and this year has been their TE Travis Kelce (in 2021, 2nd to Hill by 100 yds) As we know, he is a job and a half to cover. So their top receiver and their #3 haven't gone anywhere When you say "great coaching and tenacious defense wins", it seems to ignore the continued presence of the Chiefs actual top (or close to top) receiver.
  13. https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/nfl-places-josh-sills-on-commissioner-exempt-list/ar-AA1702CY And there we go. NFL takes it out of their hands.
  14. That's a fair point Counterpoint: NFL rule changes have favored the passing game (thus more of a finesse game for the supporting cast) for more than a decade now Do you see that changing? I'd have to consult the Plant Science types in the family, but my understanding is that grass becomes dormant as the days become shorter. So it's not just keeping the ground warm, it would be necessary to provide artificial light. IDK, maybe they're "on it".
  15. Good Lord He is their backup G https://www.cbsnews.com/news/joshua-sills-indicted-rape-kidnapping-charges-philadelphia-eagles/ Indictment stems from 2019 in Ohio. He's due in court February 16th. Wonder what the Eagles do? Will there be an outcry, as there was for a mere civil suit with no criminal indictment for Matt Araiza? Will they suspend him? Will the NFL take it out of their hands with the Commissioner's Exempt List? 🍿
  16. So the franchise tag numbers came out yesterday Correct me if I'm wrong, but Barkley was playing on the 5th round option of a standard rookie contract - doubt he has any "no franchise tag" "no trade" etc etc language in there. If the Giants are willing to pay Barkley $10-12M/yr, what is to stop them from franchise tagging him for $10M? They can do it twice. That's a little thermonuclear, so it's wise of Schoen not to go there immediately, but the Giants success was heavily built on running the football this season. They had exactly the same number of rush attempts as pass attempts. It seems to me if they want Barkley, they can keep him, so that's their leverage with him to negotiate.
  17. Surprised no one else has discussed this, and with a little more substance in the OP Oh wait
  18. Then there's this https://billswire.usatoday.com/2022/01/31/buffalo-bills-interview-baltimore-ravens-tee-martin-offensive-coordinator/ The Bills interviewed the Ravens WR coach Tee Martin for their OC position last year. Beane said something about "we'll pick his brains, see how it goes". It could mean the Ravens want to return the favor. Seattle QB coach David Canales is scheduled for a 2nd interview https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/other/new-ravens-coach-dave-canales-to-meet-with-baltimore-again-for-oc-job/ar-AA16ZBgB
  19. Who said that besides Saffold? Not that it matters too much, the team played like it's true. It's not a matter of "liking". It's a matter of fact. If a person really has a top-drawer mentality and wants to be the best, they dig deep and find something when they're already exhausted but it really matters - a life or lives are at stake, a one-time opportunity to use SOFTA experimental equipment, a critical milestone on a project that could save thousands of lives. Oh heck - even a football game. The fact is, if you've worked all year for something but you "run out of gas" when it's win or go home and your goal is in sight, that's not a championship mentality. It's too bad Kansas City lost the AFCCG, but it's totally understandable that they were out of gas. Their QB was playing on one leg. They lost their best CB on the 4th defensive snap of the game. Their best receiver had back spasms. They lost their best WR halfway through the game and were down to scraps who couldn't get open. Oh, Wait.
  20. My guess would be this is a "gathering information" type interview where you want to pick the guys brain. Didn't we do something similar before we hired Ken Dorsey, we interviewed one of the Ravens assistant coaches? But, who knows?
