Got it. That wasn't my intent. From the trade forward, I've been defending it despite the huge salary disparity; Jefferson was used initially as a "run deep and catch the ball" vs. giving Josh a polished and complete route runner who could get open when double covered. Different roles on a different offense. To his credit, Jefferson has formed himself into a complete WR which is why he had such a fantastic 2022 season. Allen's quote about Diggs "He doesn’t want this to be a distraction" seems Cap. Diggs has formed himself into a complete distraction right now, and a poor example for the team. So my point was just, yeah, I think you can see the trade from different perspectives going into Year 4.

We can view it as in the past 3 seasons, Jefferson was 4th, 2nd, and 1st in receiving yards; 15th, 4th, and 1st in receptions. Diggs has been 1st, 8th and 5th in receiving yards; 1st, 9th, and 4th in receptions. OK, different type of offense. Both top receivers, call it a "push". Jefferson has a 4 year $13M contract. Diggs has earned $54M in the past 3 seasons with another $24M this season. No question in terms of cap ROI, Jefferson is the much better deal. But OK, Diggs was asked to come in and change/elevate the culture of the receiving room and basically "show how it's done" vs. Jefferson playing for a vet QB on an established team. Different roles. Jefferson is in the middle of a contract negotiation. When asked if he'd be in camp, he said "Will I be here? Oh yeah. Yeah." Diggs not only left the building before mini-camp today, he threw out a major distraction in the way of his cryptic Insta post about "letting people cap" and "if them lies help you sleep, better tell 'em big dawg". I would say given the excellence of the receiving contribution vs. the much lower ROI, "will I be here? oh yeah. Yeah." vs. "if them lies help you sleep better tell 'em big dawg" provides an alternate view that going into the 4th year, it's looking as though Minnesota may have won it.

I tend to agree, since Josh talked for 11 minutes and all of the questions were about Diggs, while all McDermott said was "I'm very concerned", it does seem directed at Josh. On the other hand...there is no restriction on players talking to each other in the off season. Diggs can't throw the ball to himself. If Diggs has issues with his QB, the guy he depends upon to get him the ball, and he wants to be a Bill and win a superbowl here (as Von said), he really ought to deal with any issues he has man-to-man, months ago.

This is true, but in the NFL, there are also strict rules about player-coach contact in the off season. They can have casual social type contacts but not calls about play design etc. The NFLPA insisted on this to protect the players and allow them to take time off. So if Diggs wants input, he pretty much had to show up to voluntary OTAs or at least be around the building in the off-season, where no one is tracking what you talk about in the team cafeteria after a workout. He can't be off at Coachella while OTAs are starting and then gripe he didn't get input.

Well, I hope you're wrong here. The Texans problem with Watson was that they promised him input. He reportedly had dinner with Cal McNair (CEO) and was asked for his input; McNair hired a search firm, Korn Ferry, to help with their GM and HC search. Then it all went sideways, with McNair sidestepping the GM search and input from Watson to hire Nick Caserio (reportedly at the urging of former Patriots team chaplain Jack Easterby. If you promise a player input, they had better get input or things will go sideways fast. The QB is the most important player on the team. He absolutely HAS to be able to work closely with and learn to see the field the same way as the OC. The WR, even the star WR, is part of a group of players. It's not reasonable to expect to give the best WR input on the WR coach, the best DLman input on the DL coach. Now on the other hand, if Diggs felt Hey, the previous OC took a lot of input from Cole Beasley, I have input too and I wasn't able give it and feel heard...that's an issue. I really do think there was some kind of communication issue around the WR room/offense last season for *reasons*, so there may be something to address and fix. And maybe Diggs feels that everyone's talking and no one is listening, so his only means to get their attention is to vote with his feet, hopefully at a point in time that won't really detract too much.

What do you think McDermott should have said/done? He has every other player here. Whatever the vet players say, the whole "process" "no I in team" "growth mindset" holds that OTAs are important and Minicamp is important and mandatory. Apparently McDermott, Beane, the new WR coach Adam Henry, and Diggs had a meeting this am, after which Diggs left the facility. Is the coach supposed to say, it's critical for the rest of you guys to be here but then add, it's no big deal for Diggs, like Von Miller did? Is he supposed to say "what we're doing here does not work without him" like Josh Allen did today?

Okay. My point was that ESPN's headline is poor, saying that "Allen takes blame for Diggs". I don't think Allen should take blame for Diggs choice to skip out on mandatory minicamp, but I also don't think Allen saying there are things he could have done better, is appropriately described as "taking blame"

So how in the name of Billy Buffalo and the Herd, could Josh (who seems to be a straight shooter) possibly describe an issue with the offense as "not football related"??? McDermott and Beane being "very concerned" tells you whatever you want to read into it, but it tells the rest of us no such things. Bakari or someone working with him told Josina Anderson that Diggs camp and McD/Beane have been in communication and it was thought they were "on page". Evidently when it came to details, they weren't. This sounds as though they know very well what's upsetting Diggs but they reached a point where, whatever the issue is, neither side feels they can "give". Josh saying in his presser "Diggs is my guy. I f ' ing love him" and "He's my brother" and being asked if there's a personality conflict between the two/responding "no", does not support what your Third Eye or your Karma tells you about a personal issue between Diggs and Josh.
