  1. The alleged robbery incident with Darez Diggs occurred a week ago. https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/stefon-diggs-brother-darez-allegedly-involved-in-elevator-attack-robbery-video/ar-AA1ca9z1 There could be all sorts of stuff going on now, from breaking information that Darez Diggs is about to be arrested and needs to have legal defense arranged (though that should be able to be handled remotely), to the question, why is the brother of two famous and wealthy NFL athletes involved in something like this? Too often (saying this with no inside knowledge), addictions are involved, because addictions drive people into a tunnel where all they can see is their need for a fix and they will do whatever is in front of them to get it. And if that's the case, it becomes the part of family members to try to arrange an intervention and try to persuade their family member to accept and stay with treatment and that has to be done in person. Or it could be a combination - maybe he was about to be arrested and his family is trying to persuade the legal system that diversion into a treatment program is more appropriate than jail time.
  2. It really wasn't too possible before the restructure. He had $21.76M of signing and restructure bonus on the Bills books even prior to his $16M fully guaranteed option bonus and his $6.745 salary to bonus restrcuture.
  3. It was a simple restructure. Diggs had $6.75M of his 2023 salary converted into a bonus and split over the remaining length of his contract. Look at the "transactions" tab and then look at the restructure column; Diggs had $1.35M added this year and to the next 4 years - but keep in mind the amortization is just an accounting procedure for the cap, and the player gets all that money up-front.
  4. My understanding is that there are team-option restructures where salary is converted to signing bonus, in almost all the top contracts with significant salary. Team option, meaning for those specific restructures, the player does not have to approve. Diggs almost certainly had one of those. There are other contract restructures which the player must approve - either because their contract wasn't at a level where team-options to restructure were written in, or because an actual pay cut in exchange for guaranteed money was involved. The team-option restructures where salary is converted to signing bonus, are usually not a problem for the player, since normally salary is paid in weekly chunks during the season so it just means the guy got paid early and the money is in his pocket, giving him a positive NPV. He may have had to agree to it, but it's often written into the contract and just happens. We bystanders really don't know but probability favors "just happens" for the type of restructure that happened for Diggs.
  5. OK, so he was there and left before practice? Way to Lead, Diggs https://www.nfl.com/news/stefon-diggs-not-at-bills-mandatory-minicamp-hc-sean-mcdermott?campaign=Twitter_atn
  6. There is no need for Coach and Beane to discuss removing his "C". Captaincy is voted on year by year, at the end of training camp/preseason - by the players. However, it is a possibility that Beane and Coach laid down some law and Diggs said "***** that noise" and left, leaving his agent and trainer "looking like a fool with their pants on the ground"
  7. So who to believe? Sean McDermott two hours ago, or Diggs agent one hour ago? Something not adding up just in Shefter's tweet. If Diggs has been in Buffalo since Monday am and has taken his physical and met with the coach and GM (per his agent), why is McDermott saying he's not at mandatory minicamp and he's "very concerned about Diggs' absence"? Adisa Bakari seems to be very well regarded as an NFL agent - Beane referred to a player as having a "very good agent" and it was Bakari.
  8. Harris interests me. Motor didn’t exactly get the Big Bucks in FA so they must believe Harris added an element Motor did not - and Motor did fashion himself into a good blocker. His hands were not what one wished, however. I think overall we agree there has been a lack of quality investments on offense, especially prior to the 2022 season. And of course doubling down at DE with Creed Humphries on the board pissed me off. But my concern is that the root problem isn’t so much lack of offensive investment as spending what investment there was on the wrong guys
  9. Is that supposed to incentivize the behavior you praise, or disincentivize it?
  10. I was addressing Cowherd’s points that the fact we’re currently #2 in defensive spending (even though actual offensive cap spending is higher) combined with FA and draft moves means we’ve done “nothing” to bolster the offense. I disagree, and it sounds as though for this year you do too. I don’t think the draft investment is as straightforward as you paint it either. For example, the reason we had no 1st round pick in 2020 was a trade for an excellent WR. But that topic has been done to death. Probably the best analysis was “Skarekrow” at Buffalo Rumblings-I’ll try to find his link later, if you haven’t seen it overall worth a read. He concludes that yes draft investment has been skewed to defense. But part of the picture is that our high offensive draft picks haven’t panned out. If Zay Jones, Cody Ford, and Zach Moss were ballin’ for us, I think we’d see it differently. I worry less that the offensive investment is insufficient and more that it’s gone to the wrong players, indicating our offensive talent scouting is not up to par.
  11. Good enough, but who would that guy be? https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/ Sort by WR and pick your guy The Cold Hard Fiscal Facts seem to be that once you're paying a QB, a top WR, and a couple top OLman, you probably don't have the cap $$ to splurge on top talent in FA. It might be worth noting that as a FA signing for 1 yr/$6M, Sanders played 14 reg. season games and contributed 44.7 ypg, 5 targets and 3 receptions a game (58.3%). He had a high Y/R of 14.9 and 3 drops (4.2%). Gabe Davis played 15 reg season games and contributed 55.7 ypg, 6 targets and 3 receptions a game (51.6%). He had an even higher Y/R of 17.4 and 9 drops (9.7%). Obviously the drops are very concerning, but I don't think the low catch % was entirely on Davis And looked at as ROI, I'm not sure we got our money's worth for $6M from Sanders. I've said elsewhere that I'm skeptical about our 2nd biggest FA splurge, Deonte Harty, being a good use of money. Anyway have a look, I'm not sold on our signing of Deonte Harty, but I'm also not sold on the ROI per investment for a bunch of those FA. Who would you consider a good ROI and a better option at #2? Your last line though puzzles me. Last season, the Chiefs top receiver was a TE - Kelce of course. Who are the Chiefs "three good WR"? Tiktok Boy is decent. MVS has always been a bit of a disappointment IMHO. Who's the 3rd? And do you really see TikTok Boy as an $8M step-up on Davis?
  12. Well, it's fine to be skeptical - I have my own skepticism - but what would you have preferred them to do?
  13. Of course, you're correct that one can avoid Cowherd and other people one doesn't like hearing from, but it also seems entirely reasonable to listen to different viewpoints, including those one may disagree with. As far as "not wrong", I grade him "mixed". Cowherd may or may not be wrong in his dislike of defensive minded head coaches. Sirianni actually got his start as a DB coach. Mike Tomlin was a WR, but came up the coaching ranks as a defensive coach. Youngest HC to win a Superbowl in 2010. Harbaugh ST coordinator and DB coach before becoming Ravens HC and winning the 2012 Superbowl. Offensive head coaches are very "trendy" right now, but I think a quality coach is a quality coach. He's not wrong, obviously it's factual, that the Bills are the #2 spending team in the NFL on D, though given that it's not even training camp yet, it remains to be seen how things shake out on 53 man rosters across the league. But we're actually spending more of the cap (52.23%) on offense than on defense (51.85%) So pointing out the #2 spending team on defense, prior to training camp, seems like one of those "true but what does it mean?" facts. "Nothing to bolster the offensive side of the ball" is just plain wrong. 1st round pick, Kincaid, TE 2nd round pick, O'Cyrus Torrence, OG Our 2 biggest FA acquisitions were on offense - Connor McGovern, OG for $22.35M and Deonte Hardy for $9.5M. One can debate whether they're the RIGHT offensive acquisitions, but not whether the Bills in fact tried to bolster the offense.
  14. What about that movie star he's started dating? Major distraction, what happened to focused on football? /sarcasm pssst. a fair handful of the responses are sarcastic
  15. I hear ya, and one of the things I love about this board is the relative scarcity of eyeball-popping gifs in avatars and flashing in messages. I get a headache just thinking about some sites. The obvious is that there's a lot of room between 10 MB and 204.8 kB, which is the current limit. Now maybe the limit needs to be 204.8 kB. But say I'm writing a post about how Allen's anticipation has changed, and I want to illustrate it with a couple of jpegs cropped from film. I used to be able to just crop them and paste them in. Now I need to save it as a file then upload it, and possibly re-size it. I think we see less illustration of points with film clips and stuff, and that's one of the reasons why. Not judging, maybe 204.8 kB is where it's at and 500 kB would potentially result in hugely expanded server fees, that's not my lane. I just know it would be helpful from the posting side if the limit were a bit higher.
  16. sheesh, Buttons. Kidz Theez Days
  17. The canonical wisdom is that the "blind side" is the L side, the IOL needs to maintain a pocket, and the RT can be given help from a TE, WR or RB to chip - or, in Josh's case, that he can see and evade. At this point, we certainly have too many bodies signed at both DT and DE
  18. Fixed now? 1) pick your gif of choice off giphy 2) click the paper airplane "share" 3) choose "copy GIF link" 4) paste in There's probably some snazzier way but that's what I do, mentioned for any diagnostic usefulness
  19. They seem to have settled on a diagnosis of commotio cordis The thing is, it's such a rare occurrence that statistics about whether or not it's more likely to happen again are likely not very meaningful As far as they know, it isn't more likely to happen again, but then again, most of the people to whom this has happened weren't playing tackle football I think it's a bit of a long shot for Damar to make the team this season, not because I'm worried he's more likely to have an on field health issue than the other guy, but because I think it's very likely several of his ribs were broken and he had aspiration pneumonia. He would have had some muscle wasting while in the hospital, and his ability to work out would have been hindered for a couple months (they wouldn't have wanted him to really push himself until they figured out what was going on, also, he likely felt as though an elephant sat on his chest and his feet were injected with lead for a while. He's always looked small for a football player to me, but he's also looked jacked. Now he doesn't. Trainers - I know there are a bunch of you here - how long does it take a guy who has nothing to do but work on himself to build strength? How long to build aerobic capacity?
  20. Writing off Kaiir Elam?
  21. Nice. Make Talley proud, Floyd!
  22. Wait. Are you saying that’s not normal?
  23. Glad you’re OK I think people of both sexes need that friendly reminder to check themselves. I saw data a while back that a surprising # women with breast cancer had the lump found by their SO When I was a grad student, the wife of one of our professors - a physician!!!!!!! - was being treated for a golf ball size lump that was cancerous. A physician!!!! Golf ball size! we can all do better by ourselves
  24. That brings us to what, 7 DE under contract (counting Von Miller who lists as a LB due to his #)? Von, Rousseau, Epenesa, Basham, Lawson,Kingsley Jonathan, and now Floyd Somebody's gotta go Could be worse, could be a DT where we currently have....10 DT on the roster. Washington likes competition, he's got competition.
  25. We did not I will say this, Oliver showed up for his interview with Maddy Glab with a cute little crawler - ~6-9 months? Oliver, as many players, has been quiet about his personal life, but he evidently has one and now a little girl. He seemed very comfortable with her, too, like he's an active parent. It's not unknown for some players, once they have kids and sometimes a stable relationship, to kind of level-up and take their game more seriously 'cuz now they got shoes to fill as a Dad https://www.buffalobills.com/video/instant-reaction-ed-oliver-signs-a-four-year-contract-extension-buffalo-bills
