  1. I could just be a Nattering Nabob of Negativity here, but I didn't think Bernard looked like he could tackle a RB with a full head of steam last season, and he looked just the same arriving for OTAs. So unsure why they thought Bernard would be It at MLB
  2. I think you're right. I think they were concerned about Dodson's ability to cover the run and not get sucked in by PA, and how to handle the coverage responsibilities he couldn't manage the way Pteredactyl Arms could. Dodson has been a leader on a top ST unit - I think he has the green dot on ST - so I don't think they anticipated any leadership and communication issues there. You're correct, but on the other hand we've seen it before that a guy is a Preseason Hero and Squibbs on Sunday in the regular season. The Bills have a draft pick and an UDFA invested in 6'4" WR who can play ST. Then they have Ateman and Dezmon Patman, who are also 6'4". That suggests that the Bills see a need for a tall strong WR and are quadrupling down to try and find a guy who can play. Do they cut them all, and keep Isabella? Do they move on from last year's 5th rounder, Shakir, who has already demonstrated similar numbers to Isabella's rookie season (but with less WR talent in front of him as a roadblock and in 6% more snaps), and who shows both great promise and inconsistency? Or do they keep 7 WR? But how do they do that, and maintain depth at TE and keep all the guys they want to keep on D?
  3. The fact is, McKenzie managed to stay in the league and on the field for 6 seasons, now going into his 7th and still fighting for a roster spot. He's a popular whipping boy here on TBD, but 5th round picks don't do that unless show something. What are the options here? Either McKenzie, in fact, doesn't suck - he didn't succeed when asked to take on a broader role as Beasley's replacement in the slot, but when he was used in ways that exploited his speed, he stayed on the team and on the field. Or, our FO/pro player personnel and offensive coaches are just stupid because they failed to agree with you that he sucked. (And built a top-5 offense the last 3 years while being so stupid) "Don't hassle me with the Facts, Son" My point wasn't about McKenzie succeeding or not in his role as a Beasley slot replacement (he didn't), my point was that the Bills offensive coaches last season had Hines for half the season and McKenzie all season (two fast guys), and did not manage to use them in a way that leveraged their best attribute - their speed. Isabella was drafted in the 2nd round. High draft picks usually get more leeway, yet he was dumped off his first team before the end of his contract. They tried to trade him and no one was interested. It's always possible that "3rd team's the charm", sure Who do you feel they could have signed at MLB but didn't? Don't tell me Lavonte David or Bobby Wagner. The first wanted to keep his family in Tampa where they've lived for 11 years. The second wanted to "go home" to Seattle.
  4. Well, with one possibility still sidelined with a hammy, the third guy coming back from being sidelined (or maybe not, according to Sal), and the lead horse swinging his helmet around and getting a new one torn by Josh for it on Weds then needing to be addressed by both the LB coach and McDermott yesterday (and fetched off the field by the head trainer and director of player personnel afterwards), ===>would any of us find him credible in the least if he didn't express concern?
  5. But we had speedy Isaiah McKenzie and super-speedy Nyheim Hines last season, and somehow couldn't figure out how to use them effectively very much Joe Buscaglia breaks the tie: he heard it the same way as Parrino on Spector, both different from Capaccio: Spector will practice
  6. don't know yet whether the practice is open or not. Last practice before Bills travel to Pittsburgh for game on Saturday Good news on Gabe Davis if he's actually better. Disagreement on Baylon Spector. Parrino says he's back, Capaccio says "will not practice" It's official. Even McDermott thinks it's a problem: If that's so, then why did his first 2 teams dump him, the first after he couldn't get on the field for a season and a half? Is he just a practices like Tarzan, plays on Sunday like Jane type of guy?
  7. Anything is possible, but Beasley will have to get his leg injury healed up and get back on the field and make the team first. Missed the last 2 days practice (see above)
  8. Christian Wilkins sitting out team drills https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/38202284/dolphins-christian-wilkins-sitting-team-drills-contract
  9. Dude, preseason depth charts are one step up from astrology. Even regular season depth charts need to be taken with a salt shaker. The Bills acknowledge that there are a bunch of active battles, including for RG. This version of a preseason depth chart doesn't
  10. That has got to be some kind of a joke account y'all are falling for Makes zero sense But goes well with this
  11. Well, I could be wrong, it's not like I've made an in-depth study of Beasley's rap music. But I did listen to a couple of his 17 weeks podcasts and a song called "adrenaline junkie". And from that I gathered that playing pro football is a helluva rush for guys who have the mindset for it. It's not just "attention", it's the adrenaline rush from being out there pushing to your physical limits and hitting and being hit. You don't get that from being at practice or being on the practice squad. He could get the "push to your physical limits" from training for an Iron Man or something like that, but the physical contact is part of the rush. Allen just recently said himself that he "likes to get hit sometimes, it makes him feel alive".
  12. We don't? During the whole controversy he was at pains to tell everyone his family was completely set for life and that it was not about money. Truth. And I think Beasley is probably past his expiration date. My point was that I think he is motivated to join the Giants from desire to get back out on the field every Sunday and experience playing professional NFL football again. Sitting on the practice squad won't do that for him. By the way, he's out of Giants practice right now with a leg injury. Missed his 2nd practice.
  13. It's not just the "hooper" thing vs. speed. McKenzie, by the time he had left here, had developed some moves to release and fake his defender, in addition to the speed to run away from them and get open. What Beasley had that really set him apart, in addition to the ability to beat that man, was the ability to dissect the defense - to watch film and understand how that team's zone defense concepts worked and how to adjust during the play to what the defense was showing him - then, how to get on the same page with Allen, both while watching film during the week, then by using his body language to show Allen what he was going to do post-snap. For whatever reason, McKenzie never developed that communication and trust with Allen against zone. Now Allen has praised Isabella's "good body language", which I never heard him say about McKenzie. But that's the unknown.
  14. So I don't know what to make of this. TBN article by Katharine Fitzgerald on Dodson. I have been told that meditation is quite common among NFL players now a days. Later in the article, Dodson says he started because Poyer suggested it to him. Now here's where I don't know. On the one hand, if you got a player who is getting the attention of the LB coach, the HC, and the director of player personnel, he's obviously a player they value and want to put time into helping. Same with director of player engagement and head athletic trainer going over to him. On the other hand, just from experience in other avenues than football, when someone is getting so much attention from (by analogy) his manager and his 2nd level manager and others, it's usually not a sign that "all is well on these fronts", it's usually a sign that the employee is known to be struggling in some way, and there is concern either for his mental health, or his OTJP, or both. You're asking the very same question I asked for myself. My reaction was "WTF are they grading?"
  15. Really? We gotta do this? 2019 season 2020 season 2021 season 2022 season You said "So this is his 4th year in nfl though its his 3rd team" The 2023 sesaon is his 5th year in the NFL
  16. Lil' Dirty still stirring the sh** for the Bills:
  17. That's a really good question. I've been poking around trying to figure that out. https://www.revengeofthebirds.com/2020/1/6/21051768/the-curious-case-of-andy-isabella 5th year.
  18. So I went looking for anything on Andy Isabella with the Ravens. He was released before their training camp opened. Usually teams do that if the guy is a problem, or just isn't cutting it because there's a lot of room on that 90 man roster. But, that doesn't seem to be the case I like the Ravens fan bulletin board "Russell Street Report", so that was my first stop after google turned up nothing for me. Minicamp Day 1: Minicamp Day 2: I guess it could be a courtesy kind of thing, they don't see him making the team so they cut him before training camp to give him a chance elsewhere. But the Ravens have twelve (12) WR on their roster right now, so clearly they liked those 12 guys better than Isabella. Question is: why, when he was apparently separating and making catches?
  19. OK! I mean, if the issue is your OL starters are in the training room or out, what exactly is the coach pitching an f-bomb laden fit gonna accomplish, exactly? The starters will either come back and "gel" and get better, or .... Oh, and if that wasn't enough, apparently a player altercation took out the Jets DB coach: Back to the OL: I'm sure Salah will watch the film, and then send the O-line a Strongly Worded Letter.
  20. How about this speech? https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/38199955/hard-knocks-2023-week-2-episode-recap-saleh-rodgers
  21. I have not heard this term before. What is a "sugar huddle"? You can pretty much set your watch by him, cantcha? It's like the Law of Gravity or something
  22. Little clarification that is from yesterday, Gabe did not practice today You may know this but because it's today's practice thread seemed worth noting
  23. LOL I thought about pointing out it was "general soreness" which doesn't sound too serious, but then I figured I'd do a little 🎣 That's fair. But the report of helmet swinging - excuse me, "tossing to teammate" - then having to be restrained by his LB coach Bobby Babich - then next day having McDermott come over to talk to him - doesn't quite sound like your standard "stuff happens, they're not choir boys, no big deal" either.
