Add in, in 2021 the Jets drafted another QB 2nd overall...only to give up a bunch of picks for the privilege of paying a 39 yr old vet the big bucks In other words, I agree with you that perhaps the Jets aren't the best example to hold up for exemplary drafting.

I'm not entirely ginned up on the PS rules (actually I try but they give me a headache). However, the Bills placed Barkley on season-ending IR yesterday. They can release him with an injury settlement, but then they are barred from signing him for 6 weeks AFTER the # of weeks in the injury settlement. PRETTY SURE that includes a signing to the PS
-
So....the Colts are going to go into the season with 3 WR on the active roster? And 5 TE?
-
Does anyone have a list or summary of signings? No joke, other teams have put out their entire PS already!
-
I See No Lies. Will be interesting to see who the Colts have claimed on Waivers.
-
What's interesting, is that this leaves them with three (3) WR on their active roster They already released James Washington and Breshad Perriman, then waived D.J. Montgomery, Amari Rodgers, and Mike Strachan (they signed the latter 3 to their practice squad) Meanwhile, as of yesterday, they had five (5) TE 🤷♂️

The Allen-Diggs Relationship in Decline?

Of course he could, What's Your Point? -
Keep in mind we can only approach veterans to sign to our PS at this point (up to 6) Everyone else, must wait until after noon today for them to clear waivers
-
Well, players have in the past. Back when the Bills were a bad team, it happened actually that we would try to sign players off another team's PS and they would say "no thanks, I'm Good". The other reason is if a guy is offered to the 53 as strictly an injury replacement, and the team will cut him in 4 weeks when the injured player returns. Isabella, as a 2nd round pick, made some $ his first 3 years in the league and if he was prudent with it, can afford to "bet on himself" and try to refresh his career, by staying where he thinks he's got the best chance of that even if it means less $$.

Ifedi is this year's Ty Nsekhe/Daryl Williams, and that's not a Good Sign for Brown. For those who don't remember, in 2019 the Bills had rookie Cody Ford starting at RT, but hedged their bets signing journeyman Ty Nsekhe, who only took 1 start but wound up playing 1/3 of the offensive snaps there. The next year we signed Daryl Williams who quickly won the RT job outright over Ford, Got Paid, and sucked the next season. Bates has looked decent this preseason by all accounts. Anderson has taken snaps at C.

If by "analytics sites" you mean PFF, I think they aren't too valid in their abilities to grade OL play, not knowing the specifics of the assignments. Same for the eyeballs - we can say "Morse got blown up", but was it that Edwards lost his man and should have had help, or that Torrence passed his guy to Morse but shouldn't have? There are times when Josh/Dorsey come out with a quick passing game, but far more often than not (and under Daboll as well) it seemed they were going for the vertical game. So yeah, we'll have to agree to disagree. I go with Greg Cosell, who has watched and interpreted more film than everyone on this site x100. If he says "average, not better", maybe he knows something.

Dude, Just Stop. Go root for New England or the Dolphins or whoever it is you're actually a fan of, I can't keep track. What's undeniable is that the Bills had the #2, #3, and #2 offense the last 3 seasons. You don't achieve that with a line that is "more a liability than an asset". You simply don't, especially when your QB always wants to go for the "kill shot" and hates to check it down. Yes, some of that is the unreal play of one Joshua Patrick Allen, but as Dawkins said in one recent interview - that's both a blessing and a curse. Allen will often extend plays, and that demands more of the line; other QB behind lesser lines will hit the quick slant or flat and let their player gain 5 yards, which makes their line look better. Have the Bills had a top OL? No, it's been average, no better. But also no worse.

I'm so confused. Now we can't sign players who have played for teams who have PLAYED Carolina?

The Allen-Diggs Relationship in Decline?

Or rather, they are limited only by the fact that there are 24 hrs in the day, 60 minutes in the hour. Someone here (I won't say who it was, in case I'm wrong) made the point he assumed football players make extensive use of professional "escorts" during the season and that their agents/personal assistants help them set it up. It makes a lot of sense, even for a guy who enjoys clubbing and "the chase" during the off-season. Pursuit takes time, and there's always the chance that the woman in question will end the evening with "no" to the actual act, will air your business on social media, or will turn out to be some form of grifter. If a guy wants pleasant companionship and/or sexual satisfaction, I'm pretty sure there are a variety of beautiful women who are willing to take care of whatever he wants for a suitable number of unmarked bills along with regular health testing, confidentiality guarantees, and little chance of misunderstandings about the woman's age or what's wanted. When you make enough to afford private jet travel, those women can come from just about anywhere, and arrive just about anywhere, any time. Not into Buffalo during an actual blizzard or LA during an actual tropical storm, but just about any other time. -
Indeed. There are a couple of Beane patterns that we can see in his drafting. One is, that when he believes we need help at a position, he will often "belt and suspenders" it - instead of going "all in" on one player, he will hedge his bets and acquire several candidates through draft and mid to low tier FA. After the 2020 season, he decided we needed to "affect the QB". He had to do this with bottom of the round draft position and very limited FA $$ due to Covid. So #1 (Pick 30) was a shot at a high ceiling, low floor guy - Greg Rousseau, physically talented but what was described as "a concerning lack of functional edge experience" #2 was a guy who was felt to have potential as a "solid, average starter" National reaction after the Basham draft pick was generally that it was solid https://billswire.usatoday.com/2021/05/01/national-reactions-media-buffalo-bills-carlos-basham-jr-2021-nfl-draft-greg-rousseau-2/ It's 100% revisionist history for people to be all "It was a bad pick from the jump" blah blah. Maybe some of the guys who are saying that here ( @HappyDays?) have their receipts, but that simply wasn't the general viewpoint at the time. I didn't like it because there are a couple Beane habits that I'm not sure are constructive - one of them is doubling down on present needs, another is going for "high ceiling, low floor" guys who may have a higher bust rate. But the Basham pick exactly illustrates why my concern may be incorrect. Basham was seen at the time as a physically strong and technically sound player who might not be an NFL star, but who was a dependable bet to contribute. Rousseau was seen as a boom/bust guy. Yet Rousseau showed flashes as a rookie, and Basham never did seem to "get it" in the NFL. So the whole idea that Beane's "boom or bust" guys may have a higher wash-out rate than "steady eddie" may be flawed.

by "WGR" can we assume you mean the callers, not the hosts? The same callers who produced this gem?

Is that a real question? See my post above - when a guy says some of the stuff I quoted, it's entirely appropriate to question his understanding in general (IMO) -

LOL I believe you. Where the kid went to college, lot of school break "ski" trips had 19 reasons to head for Canada it was more the definitive-sounding comparisons to NYC, Boston, Miami etc that amused me. -

I agree with your last paragraph. I agree that the plan is to have smaller backers who are good in coverage and can tackle well. I just don't think we have a good execution strategy for that plan. I think the problem is when you include Bernard, Williams, and Spector in that description. I don't think Williams and Spector are good in coverage - maybe they'll develop. Bernard may understand coverage, but so far he seems slow to get there, and he doesn't thump when tackling so he gets dragged 5 yds. Dodson is poor in pass coverage and while he can read the run and thump, he can also get sucked in by play action. I think there's going to be a significant drop off. Just my opinion. Milano was pretty healthy. But you're missing Daquan Jones (calf, missed Bengals playoff game), Oliver (shoulder, wearing brace) Phillilps (shoulder, wearing brace) and Settle (calf injury early in season, reportedly hampered him all year). Rousseau was out for 3 games mid-season, and didn't look the same afterwards. Then of course there's the obvious, that Hamlin was our 2nd string safety and he went out for the last 5 games, so we were on our 3rd string at safety. -

Bengals D #5 last year. Eagles #8. True that Spags/Chiefs #16 last season, but they were top-10 the 3 previous years, #7 the previous Chiefs SB win. I think you don't need a top-3 D to win the Superbowl but top-10 with the ability to step up in big games, for sure helps. But, as you point out, it's been done with worse. -

Speculation and discussion on Bills final roster cuts

I think it was a "thought", especially with some pretty strong competition in the form of Taylor Rapp (who can play nickel), Cam Lewis (who they have developed as a nickel) and then Zayne Anderson on ST and a couple of talented young corners. He's no longer the only backup nickel CB or "big nickel". But from everything that was reported, Neal played like his ass was on fire and tackling would put it out through preseason. He earned his shot. It would raise his cap hit, since he's got a void year for 2024 that would move into this year if cut. Matakevich contract is also fully guaranteed $2.5M Let's put it this way. McDermott and Frazier managed a defense that was just below average (#18) in 2017 and 2018 with lesser talent at LB - well, pretty much anywhere except safety, actually. I don't expect the defense to be #2 overall this season. I think there will be mistakes, and we'll be gashed from time to time. But I think it will be good enough to win with most of the time. I don't think it will be trash. And I could always be pleasantly surprised. -

Brandon Beane admitting fault & not learning from his mistakes.

As an aside, just curious: how many interactions have you had with multiple (many) lawyers to be able to objectively assess whether they are worse, better, or the same, over time? Not doubting you, it just seems unusual for a person to have that much interaction with many lawyers over time. Continuous improvement, professionally or personally, requires that one remain committed and dedicated to one's craft and continue to work hard and try to improve year by year. Some people stay hungry. Some people plateau, because they lose that fire to improve. It seems obvious that by the time Rex wined and woo'ed Russ Brandon and the Pegulas into a big contract, he felt he had "arrived" and didn't have to continue to grind and study film and put in the hours. He was "phoning it in". On the other hand, when we hired Daboll, many here were against it, saying he had poor offenses (#29, 31, 20, 32) in 4 years as OC on 3 teams. There were stories from one of his former QB about Daboll just screaming into the helmet and continually putting him down. It seemed risky. After 4 years as OC in Buffalo, at least some here have been saying we should have fired McDermott and handed the reins to Daboll. I think it's worth reiterating that under Dorsey, the Bills had the #3 offense in the league for points last season, and top 10 for both passing and rushing yards. That matches 2020 under Daboll and is somewhat better than 2021 under Daboll.
