  1. There's three aspects of the Bills run game to consider: 1) how many times they run 2) of those runs, how many times is there a handoff vs. Josh Allen being the runner 3) how effectively do they run? I believe Dorsey has commented something to the effect that "we don't need to run the ball more, we need to run the ball more effectively". There needs to be enough of a run game, and effective enough of a run game, to keep the defenses "honest", in other words with some understanding that they need to play gap-sound defense and not just pin their ears back and go after Josh. That doesn't mean there has to be more run plays, but they have to be effective enough to achieve that.
  2. This should maybe have its own thread Is this good, or bad?
  3. $4.5M for the taking - I'd go with "you're right" on that. But a guy who is suing, takes what he can get Hines was due $2.56M from the Bills this season, $1M of which was guaranteed (likely for 'injury, skill, and cap'). Initially there was some back and forth that the Bills had offered Hines $370k, which is the max a player on the practice squad can receive. His agent of course, wanted his full salary (which the team can choose to pay). Let's say they settled on covering the guaranteed portion of his salary. In this hypothetical scenario, Hines has got $1.56M of lost salary to make up. So if he can get that out of some combination of the renter dude and the rental company and who knows, maybe the jetski manufacturer, still worth suing.
  4. So, that requires a bit of sorting. First sort: Is it classed as a "football injury" or a "non-football injury"? Football injury = working out at team facility in the off-season, OTAs, preseason; training camp, games Non-football injury = anything else (including injuries from working out to prepare for the season For a non-football injury, the team is not required to pay the player his salary and per game roster bonuses. They can choose to. He keeps his signing and/or restructure bonuses. Second sort: If it's a football injury, does the player have a "split" in his contract that specifies that he will be paid a lower amount if he is placed on IR? Of our 4 players on IR, Doyle apparently does NOT have a split and is getting paid full salary; Shorter, Spector, and Davidson have splits. But to answer your last question: no, they can't just "not pay them". Neither can they release an injured player, UNLESS they reach a settlement to pay the player for the # of weeks the injury rehab is supposed to take.
  5. I can not disagree. And that's saying something, for we have had some tone-deaf doozies.
  6. In case anyone wondered. Hyde listed as "full", but only a walk-through practice today.
  7. I think we put a little too much emphasis on the "pajama olympics" at times. Josh Allen ran a 4.75 second 40 yd dash at the combine. I think most LB and DB who have been tasked with bringing him down in the open field would say he plays faster than that. You're correct that Kincaid is a different TE coming out of college than Kelce was. Kelce was noted as a run blocker!!!!! and had only one stellar season as a receiver. Kincaid is not noted as a blocker at all. FWIW I found Kelce's draft profile which as you say lists him at 256. The Chiefs and a couple of other sites list him at 250. Guys can and do transform their bodies and impact their performance in the NFL. I don't think the Bills want Kincaid to gain 15 lbs, but it wouldn't surprise me if they encourage him to try to add 5 or 10 lb of muscle and to "cheek up" as Josh did, in order to run faster. Time will tell
  8. ? Rich Eisen asked Josh "Was there a thing?" He shook his head side to side 'No' and said "there wasn't"
  9. Salah most definitely ran the wide-9 in San Francisco as DC. What Jeff Ulbrich is doing as his DC can't 100% tell you (or even if he's actual DC or DC in name only) but I think they do. Found articles about how their DE are ideally suited for same.
  10. All of us are approximately 60% water Runner friend was telling me the new guideline for hydration in distance running is no longer trying not to lose weight, but try not to lose more than 5% of body weight For a 300 lb dude, 5 lbs is a mere 1.67% of their weight - easy come, easy go
  11. I vote with the Mrs. Most habituated/concentrated skunk population I've ever seen was at Blackwater Falls State Park (WV). Every morning and evening there was a veritable Skunk Parade through the campground, including one Grandfather Skunk that was something like 3 ft long. Our kid was a toddler and our friends had 3 kids from grade school to toddler, and of course the toddlers thought they were fascinating
  12. You sure about that part? Story: Friend of a friend had a disappearing racoon. Called a well-recommended critter removal guy, he looked around, identified an where he thought a racoon might be getting in to the partially finished attic, and identified a location to place a live trap without removing drywall. Okay! A day later: "Ma'am, I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is, I trapped a racoon. The bad news is........it's lactating" About $500 worth of pending drywall repair later, he found and captured the kits.
  13. Hi. Can you explain to me the "Allen struggles vs. the Jets" thing? my Data on p. 9
  14. The two are not unrelated. When a DL excels at the pass rush, it sometimes happens they lose gap integrity and give up runs. The problem the Bills had, is since they weren't doing much in the run game the Jets DL just pinned their ears back and went at it.
  15. Isn't that exactly what happened last night? It was 4th and 20 at the end of the 4Q, and the officials called something that had been going on All Freakin Game Now I was all "Karma's a Beyotch, aint it?" but, it's frustrating as hell to watch and probably for the players also. I can't remember the game now except that it was a big one, but the #1CB had been allowed to lay hands on Diggs all night to the point where he should have been offered a sexual assault kit. All game. Then in the 4Q in the red zone or EZ they called DPI. Well, it was DPI, but where had that call been all game?
  16. Who should the Bills draft or acquire that would be a sure bet to be "a lot better" than Dawkins at LT? Oh.
  17. His "captainship" wasn't "taken away". The team votes each year for captains. It's not uncommon to have fluctuations, but if you want to make a deal out of Dawkins not being a captain, you got to go back to 2021. 2020 offensive captains: Allen, Dawkins (that's it, out of 7 total - 3 on D, 2 on ST) 2021 offensive captains: Allen, Diggs (that's it, out of 8 total - 3 on D 3 on ST) 2022 offensive captains: Allen, Diggs, Morse (out of 9 - 3 each unit) 2023 offensive captains: Allen, Diggs, Davis, Morse (out of 8 - 3 on D 1 on ST) This reminds me of another thread that wanted to make a big deal out of the number of captains the Bills elected this year - 8 - and make it into some kind of "message" McDermott was sending when, in fact, the team had more captains in 2022 and 8 in 2021.
  18. We need a TBD "Hall of Fame" where links to Epic TBD posts could be stored. Retatta would be one. With coining the phrase "caterwauling from the permawhiners" You Sir, have just earned my vote for your entry. Hey Zero. How ya feeling on this POV now? Hey Zero. How ya feeling on this POV now?
  19. Fair, but It's not "either or" it's "both" Facts
  20. You do realize you're posting in an thread about an article on Dawkins talking about all those things? Funny that. Who?
  21. Mango, to your point: you and I have had different POV on a number of topics and have discussed them at length, staying on the topic in question. I wish I could "like" this about 1000x because you're exactly correct. Almost any type of topical discussion is not a problem, but when the topic turns to the character of those having the discussion it goes sideways, fast.
  22. I agree with you. On the other hand, there are those who maintain that some players are such athletic freaks that they can get by on native athleticism, until they get older and it wanes. I don't think that's a realistic POV because in the NFL, many of the players these guys are competing against are also athletic freaks, but still train and study obsessively. That's why IMO guys who are athletic freaks and don't train at all (off season) or take it seriously, just don't last. Some may be less obsessive than others, but all have to train and work hard. The ones who try to get by on athletic freakishness alone, are IMO the 1st and 2nd round draft picks that don't work out from the get-go.
  23. One of the interesting things about Dion was that he's always looked as though he has a poor body type. I forget who, might have been Greg Cosell, commented on how you see Dawkins and you think he's got a bad body type for a LT, then you get to late in the 4th Q and realize he hasn't given up a sack.
  24. It's not a beauty pageant, but it is similar in one sense: beauty contestants and professional models and dancers need to care for their bodies meticulously, maintaining the physique and physical condition their job demands. So do professional athletes. I wish I could find it, I think it was @Shaw66 who wrote a really cool post about sitting in a section at an NBA game that he realized was full of the wives and girlfriends and "road wives" of the players, and having the epiphany that one thing these ladies had in common with the players was the need for meticulous, almost obsessive, focus on their bodies.
