Week 3: Buffalo (-6.5) at Washington

Me not likely that injury list. But wow, what a mental "sea change" that represents, to thinking a hindered Bernard is a significant concern I'm confused now. I thought our window was closed and we weren't one of the top teams any more? -

Does anyone know if there's a Manningcast on the Rams at Cincy game? -
TBH, I don't think Diggs personally would give a 🐀 keister. Those tweets by Diggs didn't sound like Diggs at all. I think it was all Diggs PR team, and that the reason they reacted was exactly as you say - given all the off-season Diggs kerfluffle, what Maddy said hurts his brand. That's why Timmah Graham is mistaken and Diggs has both a right and a need to respond - he has a right to 'protect his brand' from the "ding" that it would take from telling a cute little blonde team reporter "F U". Even though from various I have been told, I think it's entirely realistic Glab just described what happens within the facility with the external press not there - when I'm pretty sure f-bombs and other cussing are common and don't mean much or are even a sign of affection.

Again, you need to think about that logic a bit. I'm not a member of the "MLB don't matter any more" club, butwe all know that QB is the most important player on the team, pass rusher next. Supply and demand says there aren't enough of either, so teams reach and teams pay guys who are "OK". MLB is not a position like "best QB" or "best pass rusher" where teams are going to pay "market value no matter what", but getting a 5th year option picked up and then huge $$ on the free market for a 2nd contract means a player, any player, was a successful draft pick at a position of significance. It's not logical to suggest that getting a huge FA 2nd contract means the player wasn't worth that 1st round pick.

https://www.nfl.com/videos/zack-moss-goes-untouched-on-11-yard-td At least one more in here: https://www.nfl.com/games/colts-at-texans-2023-reg-2?active-tab=highlights Moss still looks slow to me, but he made some nice cuts, made guys miss in traffic. Looks like a man who is appreciating his chance to play and making the most of it. He looks like he may have slimmed down and muscled up a bit, too, so maybe he is a bit faster/more nimble. I think Richardson is going to be A Problem.

This. Kirksey last played significant ST in 2017.

That is nice. Couple of remarks: 1) The Bills defensive motto seems to be "you'll never tackle alone". And making those tackles in the backfield or near the LOS helps this philosophy vs. waiting for 5 yds downfield. Bernard is NOT a "thumper" but he has good technique and he's consistently slowing his targets to the point where the rest of the Bills catch up. 2) this guy is a douche. I used to get this all the time here when I did more data-rich posts. Hey, someone took the time to put together data. "I'd be interested to know the run-pass percentages each faced, do you have those data?" is one thing. A demand with please in front of it is something else. https://x.com/Kyle_Wright/status/1704273869316440371?s=20 Spector is eligible to return.

Pretty sure Burrow is playing hurt. People like to say "oh, it's a calf injury, what difference does that make?" but throwing coaches stress that throwing the football starts with the feet and legs. When Burrow came back from his knee injury with much improved velocity, there was a bunch of stuff about how he'd worked with the same motion-mapping group Josh Allen used and found he was throwing off his toes and learning to push down with his feet as he threw improved his throwing.

Somewhat alarmingly for Browns fans, I think that game against Pittsburgh we just saw was the best game Watson has played since his return. I think part of it is that Watson is simply not comfortable with or suited to Stefanski's system. But part of it is that Watson just no longer looks like a driven guy who is willing to put in whatever work it takes or do whatever it takes to be great. 22 months or whatever it was, is a long gap to not play football. Which is bad news for Stefanski because he's about to become the "escape goat".

I have expressed the same thought. It didn't go over well, but I think there may be truth to it. Not only revamp the D, but possibly 2 or 3 times if the first try wasn't effective, and quite likely have the D ranked much lower than 1 or 2. Cue the "Nooooo! Frazier didn't leave! He was kicked out the door - using Sheepskin slippers lined with fleece at the toe to do the kicking, and a patented soft-close door closer behind him, but still" responses. Dude. Edwards was obviously worth a second contract. He got one - just not from the team that drafted him. What you're contending is "if a player isn't worth paying what he can get on the open market as a FA, they aren't worth trading up in the first round for" You need to think about that logic a minute.

Would there be a shuttle? Example https://senatetransportationservices.com/sports-html/ Might be worth the $$ with disabled folk. If disabled, any benefit to calling Ravens Commanders guest services and asking for advice? -

It's week 2. The cast of "really bad" characters has ample time to shift. -
So here's a question someone here may know the answer to. During his promising seasons in Houston (including 2021 without Hopkins), Watson had the same HC/OC, Bill O'Brien/Tim Kelly Is Tim Kelly a legit OC? Anyway, I'm thinking that maybe the offense crafted by Kevin Stefanski/Alex Van Pelt just isn't a good match for Watson at all. Stefanski's seat has to be getting warm. It's his 4th season, and the Browns have gone from 11-5 and playoffs, 8-9, 7-10...now 1-1 From what I think I know, I think he wasn't the one who avidly pursued Watson, but he's undoubtedly gonna be the "escape goat" if the Browns don't turn it around quickly.

Deshaun Watson has Jordan Palmer parked in a Falling Credibility Zone https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/deshaun-watsons-personal-quarterback-coach-criticizes-houstons-receivers-from-2020 (this was in 2022)

Yea! for the Browns I guess?
-
That's the narrative Aikman tried to push, but Watson actually pulled Fitzpatrick after him out of bounds, then threw Fitzpatrick by his face mask once OOB. So we see it differently.
-
I believe if Watson is suspended, the Browns are not obligated to pay him his weekly salary. That raised eyebrows when last year's salary was set at NFL minimum, so that Watson only lost about $60k/game for his 11 game suspension or $660k total. Looking it up, the same is true this year. So the Browns would not be on the hook for about $60k/game for any games Watson is suspended. They stay on the hook for the rest, though. I missed it but to be consistent in NFL enforcement, he should have been.
-
The two face mask penalties were bad enough - he could have hurt two players. When did he shove a ref, and why wasn't he tossed for that? AJ Epenesa got tossed for putting an elbow back when a ref shoved him from behind, then turning around and apologizing when he saw it was a ref. Ref tossed him anyway.
-
My only concern about Bernard, from the way I've seen him play, is just that - that he can get trucked - maybe not just by OLmen, but by physical RBs and TEs. I would have liked to see him come in with a more muscular build, but maybe he did get stronger and it just didn't show up as bulk. The other thing that really struck me yesterday watching the Browns at Steelers game, is how the Steelers defenders often seemed to be on their own, to tackle or not. The Bills defense seems to do a much better job of "flowing to the ball" and assisting each other, so maybe that can compensate. We'll see when we play a team with a top TE.

I couldn't see this on the televised game, but it appears to me from the snap counts that Taron Johnson was substituted out about 5% of the snaps, and Dodson took them (probably scattered throughout the game, meaning the Bills were in base 4-3 on some snaps) The point wasn't that Dodson played extensively or anything like that; it was to the OP's "I never want to see Dodson on the field again" well, on Sunday you saw him and nothing particularly notable went down, it wasn't even noticed he was playing.
-
He may or may not be better than Dodson right now in our system. Let’s assume for a second he is Dodson is a regular and a leader on ST. 79% of ST snaps so far. Kirksey last played significant ST snaps back in 2017 and regular in 2016.
