  1. Interesting analogy. One factor in the 2019 loss to the Ravens (and our 2022 loss to the Dolphins) was that our defense did a good job containing their offense *most* of the day, but that we couldn't muster enough offense ourselves to counter. So, mistakes played an outsized role. The Ravens scored a TD after a strip sack of Josh Allen on 3rd and 8 gave them the ball at our 24 yd line. Scored 5 plays later. So avoiding turnovers by our offense (and maybe generating 1-2 on defense) is going to be key. I'll just add that it hasn't been uncommon for our D in past years to take a game to decode an offense. However, I'm not sure how different the Dolphins offense really is from last year. They had Morris, Waddle and Hill last season when we played them. I thought when a team played at home, being favored by 2.5-3 points was a "Pick'em".
  2. I'm sure they soft pedal things a bit as far as the verbiage they use, but if you account for that and listen carefully, they're surprisingly blunt. Greg Cosell is like the Godfather of Film Analysis, especially film analysis of NFL QB - always worth listening to. They're not going to say "yer boy shat the bed last week" they will say "if you turn the ball over 4 times, it's very rare to be able to come away with a win" etc etc.
  3. It's a premise of animal training that if you want to change a behavior, you need to replace it with a positive behavior. All of us ***** sapiens are fundamentally animals, and if it works to train a cougar or an elephant, it works for us. [Edit: Oh my goodness, H o m o sapiens is disallowed! No "Man the wise" here! LOL] So, next time they pop up, try this instead: -search for One Bills Live Greg Cosell Search for One Bills Live Baldy's Breakdowns Search for team names and Dan Orlovsky Now I know that One Bills Live is the Bills in-house Media, but Greg Cosell, Brian Baldinger, and Dan Orlovsky are three of the most respected, football knowledgeable media members around and they don't sugar-coat it. Watching these will give you a much better, wiser, more reason-based perspective Next, try Cover1. Now there's a lot of variable coverage being put out by Cover1 these days, as they've expanded from former players/coaches to current fans/journalism majors in their podcasters. Try something like Cover 1 team names. I like Anthony Prohaska who films "Disguised Coverage" so I'll search for him: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=cover+1+bills+dolphins+anthony OK, when you're done with all that, you'll know a lot more about Bills football and various keys to the game, good and bad. And I think you'll find if you attempt to watch some of these Blatherskites, they'll stick in your craw and you'll click elsewhere.
  4. I can be surprised at what the Bills do. I think they will make Hamlin active. I would like to see them make Elam active as well, but whaddo I know. Benford was mentioned as a possibility to move to safety long ago, before we signed Rapp, before Damar Hamlin came back, before Cam Lewis was given a chance to develop as a "one man gang" at CB, nickel, and safety.
  5. LOL why are you watching these guys?
  6. It's a possibility since Miami has a handful of skill players with the ability to break free and put up big yards on any play, and because McDermott's Ds have a track record of giving up a couple of big plays per game against good teams. However, when you have 3 numbers - 389 (NE), 536 (LAC), and 726 (DEN), chances are that the mean or median are not very meaningful. It's probably more predictive to ask which of the teams Miami has played, has the closest match for our defense. NE has the #5 defense right now for yards. The Chargers are 30, and the Broncos are 31. The Bills are #2 (for yards, and for points) Past performance is no guarantee of future performance, as the stockbrokers say.
  7. Hyde was not playing When we played Dolphins last year You're chasing some point
  8. So pro-football-reference has this handy feature. If you check "toggle per game statistics", you can then sort it any way you like. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2023/receiving.htm If we sort it on "receptions" with "per game" enabled, we can see that Davis is #89 amoung receivers. Touchdowns, 26th, 1st downs 29th He is still near the top in yards per reception, top 10. His catch % so far is better than last season, 60%. I expect that if one sets the parameters just right, you can manage to discern an impact no other player is having, but the above might suggest that there are quite a few receivers having a good impact.
  9. You're misrepresenting what I said. You were talking about any "rotational secondary player" Kaiir Elam, who has been inactive, ran a combine 4.39. That is the same as Christian Gonzales and 0.06 slower than Jonathan Jones, who as I noted was inactive last 2 games. If you're hung up on combine 40 times (pajama olympics) Tre White's 4.47 time is ~= faster than everyone on the Patriots secondary but Gonzales. Whether he's still that fast or not, good question, but same question applies to players like Jonathan Jones. Again, it's possible that there are other factors than speed which govern how effective DBs can be. It will be interesting to see what McDermott comes up with. One problem I had with the D under Frazier is that it seemed as though he had to play a team 2 or 3 times to come up with a defense effective against them (which he eventually would do). It will be interesting to see if McDermott is able to shorten that learning curve. Fair concern. That was my concern about him going into the season, because that's exactly how I thought he played last season in the game he started (too much to read, too much going on, head spinning). I was wrong so far, but yeah, the Dolphins are by far the biggest challenge he has faced to date.
  10. LaPorta is going to be good
  11. I thought they fell short of the record? Isn’t the record 72 points or something?
  12. Maybe Green Bay can line up a series of neutral zone infractions for 1st downs, because it doesn’t look as though they’re going to get first downs any other way.
  13. Aaaaaaaaannnd GB muffs the punt. Love barely avoids a safety there But he could easily have flipped that to a Lion and given up a TD instead of a Safety Love and the Packers having a Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad half
  14. GB D finally holds. Someone must have passed out the Viagra
  15. Amon Ra Saint Brown looking solid
  16. I think they better hold off on anointing Love as the Three Peat Packers HOF QB I guess it depends what you’re wanting to watch. Lions offense has thrown down some unexpected plays. A Goff scramble. A 40 yd reverse with Goff blocking downfield. On the other hand….the Beatles sang “can’t buy me love”, the Packers are “Can’t Protect me Love” Their OL stinks so far And their returner’s decision making stunk
  17. A Thundering Herd Of Buffalo Will Trample Dolphins. Squish the Fish!!!!
  18. Your memory is completely correct. DB were Elam and Benford. Safeties were Jaquan Johnson and Damar Hamlin. I can't say we totally held them in check (Waddle 4 for 102 yds) but they only got 21 points out of it, and 7 of those were gift-wrapped on the Bills 6 yd line by Josh Allen strip sack (Jevon Holland, Melvin Ingram) Nick Wright by a Nose
  19. OK, so that tells you something about the Broncos defense and why the Dolphins put up 70 on them.
  20. I had my health insurance cancelled when my spouse went on Medicare. They swore the amount would change to reflect single coverage, but it would still autopay from our checking. Spoiler: it didn't. 🤷‍♂️ I take it you don't select "electronic statement" No, they don't actually, at least not before they just do ***** like cancel you -- happened to me.
  21. Ooooh, "de gustibus non disputandum est" but I do disagree. She isn't a fashion model, but looks pleasant and socially respectable. He looks like the kind of greasy geek Mom pries away from the gaming computer and orders to shower every month or so Now I know that's not who he is ...that he's worked hard and advanced as a coach, and the players seem to love him and go hard for him. Still, he did make that remark about how his previous habit of not showering until Wednesday wouldn't work, now he's a HC.
  22. Psssst What if I told you that Jonathan Jones was inactive that game? And Jalen Mills only played 37% of the snaps? Safeties Duggar and Peppers (4.49 and 4.46) CB Gonzalez and. on 84% of the snaps, Miles Bryant (4.62 40) Now Gonzalez (4.38 40) is legit fast. No faster than Kaiir Elam ( 4.39 40) But the biggest factor in coverage is mental processing and reaction time - not whether one set of safeties ran a 40 yd dash in under 4.5 while another was mid-4.5s when they came in the league and probably slower It wouldn't surprise me to see Elam active this week You know, the Dolphins *did* have Mostert, Waddle, and Hill when we played them last September and last December Now, we did lose to them 21-19 in September, but I would have to say a fumble recovered on our own 6 yard line resulting in a Miami TD, some wierd decisions at the end of half, missed FG, and a TOD had more to do with that than speed differential between their skill players and our secondary did. Well, that and horrendous heat. Nice vomit emoji reaction, @boyst, but be kind of nice to hear an answer: "Share your concern on Bernard."
  23. What the heck is McDermott wearing on his R wrist? I thought at first "whaaaat, is Coach all blinged out now wearing a Diamond 'tennis bracelet'?" but it looks more like beads...
  24. Uh-oh...wrist injury to our long snapper?
  25. Believe it or not, geeky little nerd-type guys get loooove too. Though you're allowed to think he "outkicked his coverage" because he pretty clearly did. Share your concern on Bernard.
