  1. I am. Here's why. Word was (I think @HappyDays had it) that Knox had a torn ligament and a broken bone in his wrist/hand he's been playing with the last 2 1/2 weeks. I've had a torn ligament in my thumb, "gamekeeper's thumb". I had surgery, involving suturing it and putting in a pin. I believe they have better strategies with early mobilzation available now. But it's something like 4-6 week recovery. So we've had Knox out there failing to catch 50% of his targets the two previous weeks and 66% yesterday, when he could have just gotten the freakin' surgery and been on the road to recovery. Can we please put this "McDermott is ultra super wimpy and conservative with injuries" narrative to rest?
  2. correct. I have no idea that McDermott is ridiculously cautious regarding injuries. If Milano playing when he couldn’t lift his arm to tackle and Ford playing when he couldn’t lift his arm to block is “ridiculously cautious”, what would aggressive look like, Monty Python’s Black Knight? Fans come up with all kinds of narratives, like “McDermott just refuses to play rookies of superior ability”
  3. My understanding is PFF tracks all sorts of details like what plays a team runs with certain personnel on the field, what plays they run in specific down and distance situations, so forth and so on.
  4. Eh. From his rookie year, Gabe Davis was on the field 2nd most to Diggs and more than Beasley. But no way was Gabe Davis the #2 WR in 2020. Beasley was the #2 in targets, receptions, and yards, and it wasn't close. Gabe was out there to block downfield, and it wasn't close. In 2021, Manny Sands had 2nd most snaps to Diggs and slightly edged Beasley out in yards per game (though Beasley had more targets and more receptions per game) I don't think it's anything like so simple as "whoever is on the field more is the #2"
  5. First off, the teams don't put together game plans on Monday morning. The position coaches stay up all night analyzing film and GPS data from Sunday's game. They grade the players and do "corrections" with the players in a light practice on Monday. These days with ipads, players may review their own film on the flight home or go home and watch it Sunday night. Then the players have Tuesday off, while the assistants and coaches work as hard as they can to put together a game plan from data and film that the assistants assigned to advance scouting have assembled on the next opponent, with whatever their most recent game plan added in. Josh Allen said Daboll used to send out the game plan Tuesday afternoon which was considered early and helpful; more usual would be Weds morning, when position groups review it in meetings and then the team walks through it in practice.
  6. Some truth to this. Alternative read progression: If Gabe is the first read deep, wait as long as you can to see if you can possibly throw to him. Then throw to Diggs.
  7. Rex? Rex Ryan? Is that you?
  8. Von Miller played 27 snaps against the Giants. 35%. He played 20 snaps against the Jaguars, 23%. Recalculating...... I hope management does not share your understanding that we should "sit some vets against lower tier teams" because that's the way to get your butt whipped and not make the playoffs. The margin between winning and losing in the NFL is usually fairly small. Show up and go hard or go home. Any Given Sunday.
  9. Usually IMO when someone says "member of the NFL team" they're talking 53 man roster not practice squad. Though of course PS members are part of the team. So this could be seen as semantics, but the practical difference is: -members of the Giants 53 man roster can not be signed by other teams -members of the Giants practice squad can sign with another team to their 53 man roster at any time, no release needed The point is, if Beasley requested his release because another team wanted him, it's their practice squad they want him for, because if it was for their 53 man roster, Beasley need not request release. He can just get his things and go.
  10. He's been signed. So he gets at least 3 weekly paychecks.
  11. AJ Klein is currently on the 53 man roster.
  12. I believe it’s 4 games. from practice squad
  13. Have we had this yet? Officially out There's also this Has anyone heard an injury update on Damien Harris? Does not sound great to put him on IR for a neck strain. Though it's 4 games, so....
  14. I would like to know this too, if anyone has details on what exactly the surgery was, where it was, and any possible info on the timeline @HappyDays?
  15. I don't believe this for a minute. I do believe that they realize Oliver likely won't be able to recover in time to play Thurs and will be limited if he plays Sunday Actually, Phillips needs to discipline himself and play within the scheme and not overpursue this week. Ford, Settle and whoever they elevate off the PS need to step up, and Rousseau needs to be impactful if they rotate him inside. I have no idea what on earth this means. McDermott saying an injured player who did not practice is out for the game, is somehow mistaken?
  16. Perhaps. I will say I have already seen more film of Bernard scraping off blocks successfully than I ever saw of Edmunds (although, that's a low bar) And then there's this on Dorian Williams:
  17. I'm thinking that may in part underlie the decision for him to be out....he was either going to play but be hampered Sunday then not be able to recover for Tampa, or, he might be able to play vs. Tampa if he's out now. This is not gonna be pretty, No Lie.
  18. You're living up to your name, right? Joking? If not, fortunately you aren't our GM
  19. Yeah, as far as I know, a practice squad player is a free agent and can sign with any other team's 53 man roster at any time, or just say "I'm taking my ball and leaving" (doesn't have to formally retire) The only reason I know of why a practice squad player must "ask for his release", is if he wishes to sign with another practice squad https://www.hogshaven.com/2023/8/28/23837341/how-it-works-nfl-practice-squad-rules-eligibility-salary-and-more Beasley can not sign with the Commanders practice squad, but he can sign with anyone else's practice squad. Still, he said if he didn't sign with a team before training camp and go through training camp with them, he would retire. So I dunno what's up with that. Dallas maybe? The offense is a bit different than when he was there, but he probably still feels he has a rappore with Dak. Yourself? I mean, posts on a thread bump it, so you're contributing to the problem. In general I'm not a fan of revenant threads but the temptation for @strive_for_five_guy to hand Filthy Beast his receipts was overwhelming. You gotta to admire that. Well played, Strive. Well played. I'll ask you the same question I asked the guy who wants to sign Andy Isabella to the active roster: Who do you want to toss off, to make room for him?
  20. Indeed. Although, I do understand the reaction to the "friends and family so I'm stayin' " notion. The financials of trading Adams for the Raiders are something like $31.4 dead cap this season - $23.55 of it new. I think $23.55 is what they'd take on in dead cap to trade him before the 2024 season as well, but that would be off-set by escaping his $16.89M salary. Then we get to look at Josh McDaniel. He's in his 3rd year in Las Vegas, rocked a 9-14 record in previous years, and is 3-3 right now. He's been given everything he wants, including releasing Derek Carr/assuming a $5.6M dead cap hit just a year after he signed a 3 yr extension, then signing Jimmy "Italian Word for Made of Glass" Garrappolo to $34M guaranteed, 3 yr $72.5M. Sooner or later, one would think that "to whom much is given, much is expected" would apply.
  21. Look, this is revisionist history x 1000. In the 2019 off-season, Beane's first priority was to improve the OL, which could neither run block nor pass protect in 2018. No OL, no Josh. Hence the firing of Juan Castillo, the hiring of Bobby Johnson, letting him bring in "his guy" in Feliciano, signing Mitch Morse in FA, doubling down at various positions like C and RT in the journeyman FA market, and yes, drafting Ford. Ford was graded as a year-1 starter by Lance Zierlein (grades not infalliable but his scouting evaluations usually have me nodding when I go back and read them after a player has been in the league a while). Ford was generally regarded as high ceiling, low floor guy - somewhat raw at tackle, but with a lot of physical traits and athleticism to develop into a solid starting OLman. (And the fact that he's still in the NFL on a team which hopes to contend says Beane and his men aren't alone in that scouting e v a l). I'm afraid if you want us to believe that you thought Ford was "a disappointment from the moment they called his name", you're going to have to show your receipts. Ford showed flashes at RT his rookie season, starting 15 games (but platooning with Ty Nseckhe). He also suffered a lot of injuries, some of which he probably tried too hard to play through (I can remember a game vs Tenn where he was on injury report with a knee injury, but he couldn't seem to lift his R arm into blocking position). It happens that a guy who shows a lot of athleticism and physical promise and flashes as a rookie, fizzles because injuries derail him. (That may become true of Spence Brown, by the way.) Beane's second 2019 off-season priority was to bring in experienced, solid WR who were already solid route runners and who would help Josh Allen develop and expand his passing vocabulary as "player coaches". And it paid off handsomely with Cole Beasley, who bonded with Allen then started arguing with Allen in training camp about throwing with anticipation and how to read the D. Allen wouldn't be the QB he is today without Beasley and to a lesser extent, John Brown. Has Beane neglected the WR position (in fact, the offense) overall? I would say "yes". But it doesn't come down to one year or one round. And part of it comes down to misses, or to players who have all the athletic potential in the world but for some reason, take a while to get their head in the right place and live up to it (Zay Jones, I'm talking about you). And Yes, the guys who drafted AJ Brown and Metcalf have their misses, too - how many Lombardis does Jon Robinson have again? Oh that's right - he's 47 and home sitting on the couch. So no, you can't say "whooo, if Beane had drafted AJ Brown or Deebo Samuel in the 2nd we woulda won at least one Lombardi by now", any more than the 8th grade girls CYC Bball team can say "we would have won the championship if I sunk that 3 pointer at the half". (DK Metcalf was drafted before we picked, so that's Top Drawer Revisionism there). You change one thing, and everything else in the game changes.
  22. Mike Tomlin for sure. He's been coach at Pittsburgh since 2007. Record is 3-8
  23. "well never mind that part's not PC...." Good for Her! One year my daughter drew a Patriots fan in the Christmas gift exchange, and she wanted to order him a Patriots hat. Needless to say, this involved my credit card since it was an online purchase and somewhat last minute. But I made her wrap it out on the porch and drop it into a containment bag before placing it in the trunk. Apparently the recipient enjoyed it so there's that, but we live in St Louis so neither Bills gear nor Pats gear make any kind of a statement.
