Game Thread: Los Angeles Rams at Detroit 8:15 PM ET NBC

But TV market doesn’t depend on states, it depends on people. The point I was trying to make is that a lot of KC’s market isn’t in the Midwest states, a lot of which don’t have high populations. Since they’re winning, a lot f audience around the country outside “flyover country” wants to see the Chiefs. -

That’s ok, neither do the refs Would be nicely symmetrical if Wentz, having had his Championship season rescued by Nick Foles, would come in and rescue the Rams. Not sure he has it in him. -

?? I don’t think KC getting premier TV slots has to do with having “all of the Midwest” (which I’m not sure is true anyway - bit to the S it’s Cowboys, bit to the NE would prefer Bears, bit to the N it’s Vikes. KC is “prime time” because teams tend to pick up fans when they win championships and have an admired star player. The Patriots picked up fans all over when they were winning Superbowls with Tom Brady and he was the league’s darling. Pat Mahomes has assumed that mantle with 3 Super Bowl appearances and 2 rings, all the ads and attention. Very popular. We may not like it, but it “is what it is” until attention turns elsewhere -

Interesting how many players I kind of wanted the Bills to draft, that have wound up on the Lions and are doing well -

I don’t know how she came up with this number, but the Gov. was saying they only anticipated 17,000 attendees for the game tomorrow 🥲

Worked pretty well for Mahomes too. Just sayin’. Course it works best if you have a pretty solid team that is used to winning around him. -

‘ Cuz he’s coaching a team with 9 all-pro players that just gave up 48 points to a QB playing in his first season/playoff game? I got nothin’ for ya -

Did the announcers just say that the Cowboys have 9 All Bowl players and the GB packers have one (their kick returner)?? -

Daboll having tension with a coach in NY too
Beck Water replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think it's possible Daboll was highly successful in coaching Josh because McDermott put a "governor" or limits on the time and place of his hard coaching. He did this by sending Daboll upstairs to the coach's booth and (I think) telling him he better be focused on getting the next play in on time, not screaming in Josh's ear about the last one. The team watches film and does "corrections" on Monday, and intense, passionate correction can be delivered then or in private. -

I think that's a pretty typical pattern for lake effect snow, isn't it? Couple inches in N Amherst, Tonawanda, and Niagara County which are shielded from the lake Good snowstorm somewhere between Downtown Buffalo and Angola, but nothing too outrageous Some limited belt within that area gets HAMMERED and winds up with 3 foot drifts Some ####### is undoubtedly and inevitably going to stand in the northern part of the city and blog on the internet about how the travel ban and the snowstorm are "fake news" when it's pretty clear they're out of the Lake Effect area. -

And finally for those who see a problem with McDermott in the assistant turnover he's had over his 7 year tenure as HC, there's this: https://www.bigblueview.com/2024/1/9/24031619/giants-coaching-staff-mess-is-brian-dabolls-to-clean-up-and-he-better I thought it was actually genius, and a good sign, that Daboll hired both an OC and a DC he had no known previous working relationships with. Bring in new blood and fresh ideas. But maybe there were other reasons. Will be interesting to see how this plays out. -
If the outcome of a football game is impacted by fan posts on a message board, the problem with the team and the game probably run much deeper than a bit of gloating.

A lot of that was the cold today. The ball is larger and very hard. Difficult to catch.

Stuff coming out about Daboll as HC in NY: https://theathletic.com/5194303/2024/01/12/new-york-giants-brian-daboll-wink-martindale-relationship-coach/?source=emp_shared_article A lot of quotes from the Athletic article here if you don't have a subscription. https://nypost.com/2024/01/12/sports/how-brian-daboll-wink-martindale-giants-relationship-blew-up/ Article says Martindale quit after expressing discontent that two of his "most trusted" assistants, OLB coach and defensive assistant kevin and drew wilkins, were fired by Daboll. Reportedly Martindale met with Daboll to discuss and eventually said "***** you" to Daboll and stormed off. Daboll has had a long-standing reputation as a hot-tempered guy who can break into yelling on the sideline. Colt McCoy had stories of trying to call a specific scripted play in Browns training camp when Daboll was OC, and having him be screaming into the helmet radio. Josh Allen had a story his rookie year of making the wrong throw and Daboll screaming at him in the helmet radio, then on the sideline calming down, then coming back and screaming again. Daboll was seen screaming at Josh after he threw a pick in the NWE game his 2nd season before being sent to the coach's booth. Now obviously hard coaching isn't always bad, but this article says Daboll perhaps took it to excess: The thing is, if you're losing your cool and yelling at players or coaching assistants for mistakes they made on a prior play, are you really present "in the game now" and giving all your focus to what's ahead of you, and has an outcome that can still be affected? I just thought this was an interesting perspective since a number of folks here have pined for Daboll and opined that maybe we should have fired McDermott and kept Daboll. Not judging who is to blame between Daboll and Martindale and the players, obviously Josh Allen built a close relationship with Daboll, but I don't think this story paints a picture of Daboll as having the "right stuff" to become a sure-fire successful HC in the league. Players can appreciate player-friendly management, but still be hampered in their development by explosions and by criticisms that are "made personal" and not focused on technique and performance. Next year will be interesting. -

To be fair to the Dolphins and McDaniel, they were missing a LOT of key players on defense. I do feel Fangio could have done a better job studying teams who are successful at containing Mahomes and the KC offense, but he really didn't have the hosses left to implement -
Wild Card Weekend - Wild Card Weather
Beck Water replied to WEATHER DOT COM's topic in The Stadium Wall
The Missouri governor had no reason to declare a state of emergency or impose a travel ban. As you can see from the TV clips, it is very cold but the field and stands are clear, there has been a light dusting of snow but it didn’t rain as temps were dropping so it’s not particularly icy and roads have been treated as necessary. KC is on the eastern edge of the Great Plains and these conditions are typical for winter on the plains, they occur regularly and are not considered an emergency. People drive in this. People who are driving in rural areas keep sleeping bags and emergency kit in their car if they’re smart. Where was RGIII’s concern for 117 degree temps in the sun, asymmetrical for one of the teams? That’s not safe for extreme exertion over 3 hrs. -

Understandable. Buffalo had how many people die in a blizzard last year? 47? The NFL can hold a game, but if drivers are out on the streets and block them, and people are injured or die as a result, finger are gonna point at elected officials for not instating a driving ban, not at the NFL. And if a driving ban is instated, elected officials can’t selectively enforce it and exempt team busses, fans, etc Granny got arrested when she went to buy formula for her grandkids but police escort led the way for the team bus, not a good look for the Shield. -
Just collecting my receipts. And my fork. If I’m right, Flacco is missing 2 starting OL at this point. It makes a difference.
