also notice that Josh could have kept it and run that one in around the right-side of the D fairly easily, this was also our last scoring play, no points in 4th qtr despite moving the ball fairly well...the last play where Josh got stopped had no element of surprise and Simmons sold-out on it; RPO, tackle eligible, roll-to-the-right and run or throw,etc...sigh

Is being the one seed THAT important?
First Round Bust replied to Steptide's topic in The Stadium Wall
would we have won last years close games with Indy and Balt ? there was little-partial crowd noise but the home field elements did have a contribution...Indy blew some make-able kicks and the small but vocal crowd noise helped when the Ravens were driving...last year is just that, but this year has full-throttle crowd noise, lets get it ! -
above is the best analysis on this portal and an example of how we got out-executed on the field, stings since we lost the game by inches, hindsight is 20-20...so on the key qb keeper by Josh the whole world knew what play was coming; we had timeouts, why not put a back in the formation, run an RPO, likely keeping it and running right for more options, including a shovel pass, tackle eligible, sweep run by Josh or pass...our red zone strategy needs some deep thinking for improvement.

Questions to ponder during the bye week
First Round Bust replied to FilthyBeast's topic in The Stadium Wall
yeah and still we were inches away from winning ugly and feeling better..they can draft and gameplan and scheme all ya want, we were out-executed man-to-man....kind of reminds me of the playoff win over the Colts, only this time the opponent did not screw-up -
well the D is going to see these Tenn plays again (and again) so its a good opportunity to review-adjust-adapt a better scheme to where we support the box for the run while improving coverage in the middle on those crosses and seams, as simple as turning your head or some lateral movements..easier said than done, but some of those passes could have been deflected or tipped as they whistled past their earholes

yeah certain losses sting more than others, the un-even road we ride as Bills fans is paved with them... two TDs called back due to penalties - ST and the O being outscored 10-0 in the 4th quarter despite moving the ball very well....several red zone visits where we come away with FGs not TDs. giving up that big run got into the heads of our D and we over-staffed the box and they threw into that open space in the middle behind our late arriving coverages and Tenn went with it and won with it. the up and down OL having a down game - not creating the run and protecting Josh as well - we've seen this movie before. No stops by the D in the second-half..none... we got out-executed, but....were within inches of a win despite all the above...i

Should NFL refs start being suspended for idiotic calls?
First Round Bust replied to Beast's topic in The Stadium Wall
the refs have a union, and senority-tenure is always a consideration with unions...second, fix ones that are wrong...mostly because you cannot for the most part challenge judgement calls, baseball limits reviews to fair-foul, safe-out, and it is extremely limited and most plays are balls-strikes to its a mere fraction of plays that can be reviewed; the chip placement in the ball is good but very futuristic, I cant see the old guard of the current NFL owners group wrapping their meeting time around that anytime soon when billions are at stake in TV revenue and CBA-NFLPA priorities, look how long it took them to implement and improve "instant" replays; plus all this cannot be considered without consent of the refs union based on job security and credibility not to mention the NFLPA ??? -
Should NFL refs start being suspended for idiotic calls?

yeah...we call it a "feel for the game"...I think former players, college and or pro, would have a better concept adjudicating (another term us amateur us amateur refs us) the example you mention above... -
Should NFL refs start being suspended for idiotic calls?
First Round Bust replied to Beast's topic in The Stadium Wall
the biggest problem I see is the refs are part-time, have other full-time jobs for the most part, and only work once a week.... Example, remember Johnny Grier, from days gone by...used to work for my company Monday until Friday noon...when he would cut-out for his NFL weekend assignment. The good news is that certainly they have development process, post-game meetings, reviews, grading, film-work. and have points of emphasis to focus on, esp player (qb) safety which we ultimately appreciate but hate when called. I also think younger refs, esp retired players, even college guys, if they show interest, acumen (physcial and mental testing) should be part of a development program rather than the oil executive pipeline of old. As a high school ref (and some low level college) of several sports, for several years, I submit that refs do their best work when they have muscle memory working (mental and physical) this comes from working a series of games in the right balance of not being under-worked nor over-worked... I dont see the part-time model changing, and I do see those touchy (ticky-tack) calls made in the interest of player safety continuing as well which are maddening but proper when you think about it... -
Does anybody want to tell me again how good Flores is?
First Round Bust replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall
Mangini, Vrabel, Jim Schwartz, and Bill O’Brien as the only former Belichick coaches or players to make the playoffs as a head coach with Vrabel likely the best as Vrabel and O’Brien as the only Belichick disciples to have a .500 record or better and Matt Patricia, Romeo Crennel and Charlie Weiss the biggest washouts...pending current NYG season another head may roll Flores is 4-2 against BB thus far...the choice of Tua is going to drive his success or failure, personally I would have passed on Tua...but as a Bills fan am glad they took him -
Great choice for Mic'd up Dawson Knox vs Chiefs
First Round Bust replied to CorkScrewHill's topic in The Stadium Wall
some excellent bleep..shall we call Knox Rain Man ? -
not sure about Beasley - it comes down to not only the numbers but a replacement - can an in-house candidate - G Davis or Kumerow slide into the slot ? They do have some size and experience just not in the slot...not sure if Bealeywould accept a pay cut as part of extension as a lot of our vets have over the past few years. I do want Klein back -he has found his niche-game in our schemes and Milano does miss some games so he provides key depth - hoping we can extend him and work the numbers... cant make everyone happy nor keep everybody..off-season thread, post Super-Bowl focus for sure...such as Morse....playing well, key position as well

Should we be thanking JJ Watt for not choosing Buffalo?
First Round Bust replied to benderbender's topic in The Stadium Wall
think its worked out for JJ as well as us...by the same token am so glad that Sanders is here...now such a diverse offense and his vet leadership, attitude and talent has delivered as expected at 40% of watt it would have cost us to sign watts-his-name -
Monday Night Playoffs. What do you think?
First Round Bust replied to jayg's topic in The Stadium Wall
more prime time games = better ratings and more cash for all, and strengthens espn MNF brand which goes for another 12 years so espn was all over that....they decided they can live with the disruption of delayed scheduling which they will use for marketing and hype, and the winner likely plays the next Sun not Sat so that gives back rest and prep for that MNF winner, all at the cost of one weekend game -
Overall...paup (DPOY 1995), lofton (hof), steve christie (clutch kicks for years) Under Mc-Beane era - Hyde and Poyer (peanut better and jelly) and Morse and Star - so under-rated esp this season.

Insane Investment Into the Dline Paying Off
First Round Bust replied to billsfan89's topic in The Stadium Wall
smart move, you need depth for injury protection, and a mix of vet and youth, and then rotation, nice research and development...does this model work for the OL ? -
I have a feeling Frazier will be Raiders #1 target
First Round Bust replied to Carbonpoke's topic in The Stadium Wall
I dont see Frazier, but an O guy perhaps Daboll cuz they got Gus Bradley to run the D, and they need to score lottsa points to run with the Chefs and Bolts and Denver is solid, Raiders are worst in their div
