what a whirlwind week...amazing amount of big moves overall at the key qb and wr positions... Bills had helluva haul, with limited cap space BBB (Big Baller Beano) still got the job done and has not placed the future in cap jail either. Improving the pass rush and interior of the DL with more size and talent, but the OL is going to be a constant wokr-in-progress at the guard position until a draftee develops into steady state. Rivals - Miami improved the line and now has speed to help Tua, this could be his last season so lets hope he's mediocre and muddies that decision for them. NE and Jets not much improvement this UFA seaon The AFC West is catching-up to KC, lets see them drop a notch and play some playoff road games as under Mahomes KC has not played a single AFC playoff on the road.

Bungles sign OL Fred Johnson and waive him hour later
First Round Bust replied to Saxum's topic in The Stadium Wall
you gotta have Hart and ex-Bungles OL...Bobby Hart...the question and the answer all roled into one -
no S at pick 25 as I want J Williams - if gone I hope we trade down and get another second or third rounder for WR and CB or CB and WR - as far as CB (other than character) I want the best in class: SEC (top competition), long arms 32+ and the best 40 time...then comes smarts/feel for the game. tackling and hip-turn fluidity.

agree, was wondering why the Colts were saving their significant cap dollars, Ryan can still do damage and this may be a salary dump with limited value going back to ATL; Colts are in win now mode and I guess they prefer Ryan to Baker Mayfield asking price may differ this season, tho they can always try him next season...

Al Michaels/Kirk Herbstreit to headline Amazon's TNF
First Round Bust replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall
luv Al, always have and always will, but I prefer Herb Kirkstreit to the other guy -
his stats do show some ability to catch the ball out of the backfield with a 8+ yards/reception, which is what we had (temporarily) with the JD Makes-Me-Sick signing, yeah the Duke not a a big play/speed guy but perhaps Dorsey is going to add that feature to the scheme where the safeties are playing deeper and the under-wheel-flat routes show some opportunities...will take 8-9 yards at-a-time to keep the chains moving for sure as there are going to be plenty of long drives that eat clock, rest the D, and end in FGs, to go along with the big plays https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/buffalo-bills/duke-johnson-16801/stats-valuation/

So whats left to do to free up cap?
First Round Bust replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall
good accounting...now for the practice squad, they draw a weekly salary as well, does that hit the cap as well for another 1M+ -
So whats left to do to free up cap?
First Round Bust replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall
if you look at the draft pickson the roster from the 2021 draft, per spotrac, the top five picks made the active roster plus Speedy, so the total cap hit come the season for rooks was 6M...got to pay the piper sooner or later, expect some extensions before then to further accomoate...plus the annual 2M Beano uses in reserve. -

So whats left to do to free up cap?
First Round Bust replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall
spotrac info below- sincewe usually keep the top 5 picks on the roster - they will hit the cap at around 5+ to 6M..pricey snot rookies If we dont draft J Williams at 25 which is my only hope for keeping the pick, I trade down for a 2nd and 3rd - giving a 4th or 5th - I aint doing the cap math on conjecture just yet -

also have to come up with cap to pay for the draft just over 6M Plus usual 2M that BBB (Big Baller Beano) likes to do annually, plus Bates, plus vet slot ? Additionally, I think 1M of Keenum deal was paid for by the Browns yesterday in roster bonus so that helps extensions...Diggs for sure, Edmunds, Poyer, Knox possbly as those 3 are in last years of contract. -

oh no, I lost a friend, somehow a lot us of connected with John, not the most colorful or flamboyant espn personality mind you but somepne who had enough info, credibility, insights and personality to continue to be a person of relevance, sorry to hear he passed at age 67...life is indeed short, going to miss you John, thanks for the great job you did even after leaving espn, may you rest in peace and give us that quirky-nerdy smile when we remember you in the years to come...

I guess the Vikings visit did not work out ? they dont have much cao, but the Pats have more so I guess we are looking at him as backup or cheap starter and the Pats may pay him starter money

How many roster spots are still in play?
First Round Bust replied to Ethan in Cleveland's topic in The Stadium Wall
backup qb - has to be a vet, cant build a SB contender and have a raw rook drafted mid-late round as the pinch-hitter like Jake Fromm-like zombie but of course that comes with a coupla mill per season...drafting a guard to step-in at mid-season is another priority to give Ford compeition as bates is the c-g like Feliciano was, only better hopefully both safties 30+ but there are young vets on the roster- Hyde has 2 years left, Poyer one. the backup MLB needs to get real - if you want to replace Edmunds you need some exp, speed, size, wingspan and that is tough to find. SDSU TE on day three would give thee a chubee Only Jameson is there at 25 (value) I am trading down for an extra 2nd and 3rd-rounder, so if I dont get that special kid I got 2 second and 2 to go shopping for WR, CB, OL. DL then LB and RB in middle rounds with house money on day 3; TE, QB, S.. -

expect some technique and scheme improvement, but Ford has to improve his athleticism, his RAS scores are low in comparison to others and his play has fallen significanlty and cant get up...I dont see him in the mix as a starter, so as far as backup goes I expect the Bills to draft at least one guard that should stick on the active roster or else risk being lost when placed on the practice squad, which happened to us last season when we lost G Jack Anderson to the Iggles (as well as CB Wildgoose to the Jets). He likely cant swing to tackle, does not play center, so he is a one-trick pony in last year of contract where the position priority is to protect the franchise qb and his results so far do not qualify. Cutting results in small cap savings versus keeping for backup purposes but complicated with roster spot for a drafted guard as mentioned...

so you want to play GM... the draft is going to cost another 6M to sign the rooks, plus dead cap as of today is at 9.9M not counting possible release of #11 which would add another 1M+ plus, plus Beano wants to carry a surplus of 2M+, plus you got to pay the practice squad barnyard animals,BTW, no backup (vet) qb signed as of yet...then you got to decide whether to keep Star or not...then likely Diggs extension, and maybe Edmunds...and we wonder why there are some decision misses along the way...
