Is Josh Allen already the best dual-threat QB ever?
RangerDave replied to transplantbillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall
"Dual threat"? How about the "triple threat" of "Slinging" Sammy Baugh, who lead the league in passing, punting, and interceptions as a safety for the Redskins. The only player ever to do that in a single season. Two of his records as quarterback still stand: most seasons leading the league in passing (six; tied with Steve Young) and most seasons leading the league with the lowest interception percentage (five). He is still second all-time in punting average. He was the first player to intercept 4 passes in one game. It's hard to compare players from different eras, but the early days had some amazing multi-threat players such as Sid Luckman, Otto Graham and Sammy Baugh. (Sid Luckman probably doesn't make it to the "dual threat" category of today's game as he had a career rushing total of -224 yards. 😄) -
What, exactly, are the HOF standards, though? The HOF does not list any standards or requirements other than being out of football for 5 years. And any person can nominate a player, coach, or contributor for the HOF. All nominations are then sent to the 50-person selection committee. I've gone back and forth on who should be in or not be in. I've finally realized that this is a Hall of Fame, not a Hall of Greatness. Players like Joe Namath and Lynn Swan were undoubtably famous in their time, even if they were not great players. Players like Steve Tasker, although a great player, may not have been famous enough outside of Buffalo. Being ambiguous keeps the HOF in the minds of people as they debate who should or should not be in. I think that is by design.

When Keon finally finishes his 40 yard dash from his combine, then I'll make jokes. But until then, I think it's a little premature.

I was one of 6 boys in my family. I never felt my parents didn't spend enough time with me. But they also didn't parcel out x amount of minutes per child.by themselves. Sometimes we actually did things altogether as a family at the same time. What an ingenious set of parents I had!

My apologies. When I read the article, all I thought about was how coaches and players all talk about making first downs and keeping the chains moving. I didn't realize there was a show called "Moving the Chains." My bad.

People will still say that the computers have been hacked. "Those darn (insert the political party, football team, or country you dislike) are in on the fix!" People will always find someone or something to blame loss on.

The NFL apparently is looking at electronic means for measuring first down yardage. NFL to test optical tracking system for line-to-gain rulings in preseason with eyes toward 2024 implementation - CBSSports.com* *Dang! I can't get the title to become a linky thingy!

I remember when I was a kid and I got his football card. I was reading the names of the players I got to my dad. Each card had the player's number and then his name. When I read Otto's card to my dad, I read it as "Oo Jim Otto". I thought, "What a weird first name!" As a high school soccer goalie years later, I chose the number "00", maybe to make it up to Otto? -
Marquez Valdes-Scantling meeting with the Bills (UPDATE: Signed)
RangerDave replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah, it's like the Bills think having 5 WR 3/4s is the equivalent of having one WR1 and one WR2. Do they also think dating two 5's is the equivalent of dating a 10? -
Maybe if he was calling his own plays, he would learn what actually works and what doesn't. Being an on-the-field coach could be very good for his development.

No, but the one from Dallas is! -
Maybe they drafted him so that we'd have one player who is not jet-lagged next time we play in England?

I hope he is a starter and Chris Brown never has to mention his name. When Centers get named, it usually ain't for anything good. -

Don't like it. Don't like it at all. At my age, I will never remember all of his names. 🙄 -
Live 2024 NFL Draft thread - Round 1 (Do NOT tip the Bills pick)
RangerDave replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall
Usually it is because another team is also bidding for that pick and you think they will take your guy. It is a defensive move to block anothetr team from taking who you want. I think? -

I don't understand their delay. They've only had, what, 4 months to figure it out and they need another 10 minutes? -

Pegulas selling 25% of the Bills, per Tim Graham
RangerDave replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yes, indeed. Getting 25% of the annual profits, plus 25% of the sale of the team in the future is a great investment. I'd do it, but my wife has other ideas for our retirement funds....
