  1. I'll second the PFW book, which I've enjoyed getting for the last few years. 3-4 years ago I started getting the ourlads draft guide also, based on a recommendation in a thread like this one. It is very no-frills, but it has great information and opinions. I've been very happy with it. Ourlads I just get their draft guide - have never gone for the full year of newsletters.
  2. Speaking of funky meters Blue Rondo A La Turk is a 9/8 that goes 2+2+2+3 followed by a 3+3+3. !@#$ing great! Those divisions are a great use of time. For me, it is the smoothness of the 4/4 swing that follows - what a tension breaker after the hyperactive feel of the 9/8 stuff. Great musical architecture, IMO.
  3. I think he has been doing them at a number of universities recently.... Here's an article: http://www.onlineathens.com/stories/021008...080210033.shtml A video synopsis of the event, which is rather disappointing - sound is lousy and it is all chopped up into little segments. But, you do see him play a few notes.
  4. I had the chance to meet Brubeck and see him play and speak over 2-3 days last year. He did open Q/A sessions that were an absolute treasure - stories about playing in bands on the front in WWII, insisting on an integrated band (against the Army's wishes), studying composition with Darius Milhaud, the guys he played with over the years. I had seen him play in the late 80s - at the time I'd never dreamed I would see him again 20 years later. I'll be happy to be able to identify a piano when I'm that age. Accuracy was not all there, but the RHYTHM was unbelievable.... good stuff. This event was at a university, and he played with the university Jazz band. What an opportunity for those kids to stand on stage with Dave Brubeck and play a few tunes. He was very gracious, warm, and genuine with his time and in working with the students. All that said, I also wish I could have seen him play back in the day.....
  5. An honest question for the Dexter fans.... If I haven't seen the 1st two seasons would I be able to jump right into the 3rd season and start enjoying it, or would I be missing too much? Thanks.
  6. Yes he did, but Jax was a tie game; Houston we were down by 4 points. In both cases we had blown 10 point leads from earlier in the game. Those were both great wins for JP and the Bills, but I think the fact that those WERE two of the best comebacks in recent years underscores how long it had been since a major rally like yesterday.
  7. After watching the great drives yesterday, it felt like it had been a LONG time since we had come back with not one but two scoring drives to win a game late. I hope I'm not wrong about this. I'm not a stats freak, but I tried to check carefully - forgive me if I missed another game. But it looks like the last time we came back after being down two scores in the 4th quarter was in 2000 against San Diego - we scored 10 in the fourth to force overtime and kicked a FG to win in OT. Rob Johnson threw for 327 yards against Jim Harbaugh of the Bolts. boxscore There have been other comebacks, but they have either been from being down by one score in the 4th, or down by two scores or more earlier in the game. It was a great effort yesterday, and exactly the kind of performance we need to turn an 8-year corner and make the playoffs. Plus, with the fluke TD surrendered to Higgins, in many ways it felt like we came down from THREE scores. While it is easier on the ticker to watch them jump out to early leads, games like yesterday are fun to watch and hopefully contribute a lot to the maturity and confidence of a young team. Go Bills!
  8. I'm experiencing exactly the same problems.
  9. Some comments from PFW: "Has a frame to develop with long 34-inch arms....Solid anchor in pass protection....Can sit and stop a charge....Shows surprising strength to handle power....Is versatile.....Has a bad body that looks like it has never seen a weight room....Not a great worker....Lacks confidence....Will lunge and whiff...Three-and-a-half-year starter in the SEC has lined up at center, guard, and tackle. However, he lacks ideal quickness to line up at center or handle edge speed, and his best chance will come at right guard. Could take some strides if he were to commit more in the weight room." Like the idea of an OL prospect with versatility and experience at all the positions.
  10. From Ourlads: "Two-year starter. Cover-2 corner that is strong enough to reroute receivers. Can stick his foot in the ground and break quickly on the ball. Has good short area quickness. Experienced in both bump and off cover-two coverage. Had a good week of practice and a good game in the Hula Bowl. Has some catch-up and recovery speed. Good hands to pluck a ball. Competitive and tough on the field. He will get a strong look at corner before he moves inside to safety for some teams. Needs some technique work, but has some talent and size. Durable over his career. Seventh round/priority free agent." Of course I have no idea, but I gotta think that at least one of these CB picks is slated for S depth. And, what's not to like about a guy that can stick his foot in the ground?
  11. Amen. I used "trade issues" for a topic and made it clear in the first sentence it was about his meeting with Goodell re: the Bills and revenue sharing. Thought about putting homeland security as a topic since upstate NY is my homeland and I'd like to feel more secure about the Bills staying there.
  12. FWIW, we could all e-mail Chuck and give him our support on this. If enough e-mails are sent, someone on his staff should let him know that people are noticing.... E-mail Chuck Schumer
  13. While spreading the ball to 8 different receivers.
  14. That was the most solid drive all season - nothing fancy but good fundamentals. Nice to finally punch one in the end zone on short yardage like a real football team.
  15. My sound is out again (I had trouble with it last week too as did others on the board). Only on the bills game and only on the HD channel of the Bills game. FWIW I called them and they say they're aware of the problem and working on it. Missed the FG attempt while talking to the guy. I don't need to hear the announcers, but I want to hear that home crowd!
  16. From espn.com - sorry if this was alreay posted: [I]Bowen find home in Buffalo Safety Matt Bowen didn't take long to find a new home after he was released over the weekend by the Redskins. After visiting the Bills, he agreed to a two-year, $2 million deal to work with new coach Dick Jauron. Bowen is considered one of the faster safeties in football. The Bills signed him for his speed and ability to fly down the field. He comes in to a secondary that lost safety Lawyer Milloy. -- John Clayton They have said they are going for a faster defense, and this signing doesn't exactly break the bank.
