LIVE ***NFL Draft, Day 3, coverage at noon.
Generic_Bills_Fan replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall
I feel like they had to go OL in round 1 though…McDonald is a good player but that is still a strange pick to me. The rodgers trade put them way into win now mode and don’t really have the luxury of hoping guys develop -
I’ve been saying the same thing lol. I feel like most people have this backwards because if anything a player like Kincaid is ‘easy mode’ for an allegedly not very creative offensive coordinator…the guy can line up anywhere and do pretty much anything a wr or pass catching TE can do. the only knock on him is blocking which is something Knox is pretty good at Knox is mostly a vertical TE in the passing game that does not have the route running prowess/hands that Kincaid does. There’s not a whole lot of overlap between the two of them. If we truly got another knox (like some people are incorrectly stating) then things get tough for an OC because you’ve got two guys that mostly only excel at verticals. A big factor in knox being underutilized in the passing game is he’s not as accomplished a route runner as someone like Kincaid is

I’d say that first point is at the minimum debatable… we had a potential shot at the 1 seed despite experiencing just about as much adversity as I’ve ever seen a team face. No von, down two run stuffing DTs there’s virtually no way to stop the bengals. and on the offensive side we were missing a big target chain mover/red zone threat which we have addressed and the offensive line was an absolute mess which has been addressed also. If we get blown out in the second round of the playoffs again I’d start to get a little more in line with your way of thinking but I would not say they have ‘completely failed to build and utilize a roster that can get this team to the next level’ yet The bengals are getting a lot of production out of rookie contracts because they bottomed out/lost their qb to injury and stacked their roster with offensive talent…there’s no way they can resign all those guys. Im not even sure the chiefs roster is stacked on paper they just have two guys on offense that are absolute freaks of nature and they nailed down the offensive line which hopefully we have done this offseason

RD 3, Pick 91: LB Dorian Williams, Tulane

‘A special teamer right away’ doesn’t mean they don’t expect him to develop into a starting linebacker role to be fair. Wasn’t a deep mlb class…outside of jack Campbell I don’t think there was a ‘no doubter contribute right away mlb’ in the entire draft let alone late in the third. if we had a fourth rounder still maybe there’s a slight chance he’s still on the board in the 4th but I doubt it. I’d pick the guy with the highest ceiling there and it looks like that’s what we did…it’s not like they are incapable of increasing his playing weight/strength -
He has the talent to line up at any wr position…I really don’t get this notion that dorsey has to do rocket science to the scheme to try to incorporate two TEs lol kincaid is arguably the best pass catcher in the draft flat out, it’s not like ‘yea he’s pretty good at catching the ball/running routes for a tight end’

I know nothing about this guy so I can’t provide input personally but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bigger disjoint between what fans are saying and what the nfl analysts are saying about a draft pick lol -
Thankfully Miami and NYJ have the same issues and I don’t think rodgers or tua are as capable in those situations. We might have had the best offensive line in the division last year and it was so bad 😂
-
I saw a good video on it somewhere but can’t find it now of course lol. There’s a lot more danger underneath if your accuracy isn’t quite there compared to overthrowing guys deep too which seemed to be his common miss.

Idk much about this guy but it seems like he’s got a high ceiling which is all you could ask for in the late third. -
Could be wishful thinking but I think the elbow injury really hurt his touch/accuracy on the underneath stuff. Also like you touched on its pretty tough to string a 10+ play drive together with the underneath throws/checkdowns when the probability of a holding penalty/sack blowing up the whole drive is super high with the offensive line we were trotting out there
-
It’s honestly pretty crazy how much production we got on offense with a qb with a bum elbow and a couple big time weak links on the offensive line unfortunately it caught up with us in the playoffs
-
Not that I completely agree with op but it is at the very least ‘strange’ lol

RD 2, Pick 59: G O’Cyrus Torrence, Florida

True lol but he was still a heck of a lot closer to the worst guard in the league than the best 😂 -

This OL pick reminds me of how funny it is that Rodger saffolds last game played in his career may be the pro bowl 😂. Good enough to make the pro bowl but not any nfl roster in the following year lol -

Isn’t it nick Bolton and he’s good haha. Point made though…they’ve won championships with some legitimate scrubs on defense -
The afc east offensive lines are an absolute mess lol it’s legitimately crazy for three teams to be so highly touted yet not do too much to address the same massive issue lol
-
The dude can and will line up at any wr position…I keep reading ‘josh Allen only throws to wide receivers’ and Kincaid definitely qualifies as that lol he’s not really a true tight end…he’s a lot closer to a big target wr2/wr3
-
Good player but idk if that’s a position of need for them really or even a good fit…he’s also much better at zone than man and plays mostly outside. I guess we might see a big schematic shift under fangio They need oline help badly…whoever sorts their offensive line mess out between the bills jets and dolphins have a huge advantage winning the division
-
Could be a great pick by both the raiders and the bills lol i just don’t see how Mayer could possibly be seen as the better pick for buffalo based on what the bills were looking for/already have.
-
To be fair Rousseau and cook still have the opportunity to be absolute beasts. They were both trending upwards last season for sure. cook pretty much wrestled the starting job away from singletary and made him expendable…I think calling him a role player is a bit underselling it. book has probably been written on Ed oliver though…he seems to be destined to be a pretty good dt but nothing special
-
I feel like the only alternative was to trade back there and we would not really have a chance at a high impact offensive player
-
The name drops are kind of skewing the debate a bit lol I feel like the question is would you rather have a TE that’s an excellent pass catcher/route runner and an ok blocker vs a TE that’s a good pass catcher and good blocker. For this bills roster and how it sounds like the bills are going to use him, pass catching is vastly more important than blocking. Gronk was a freak that could do it all like you said and his only hangup was staying healthy. So gesicki style vs Gronk style is hugely misleading. the scheme change Miami made under McDaniel didn’t really suit gesicki but that doesn’t mean a player of that mold can’t be the focal point of a different offensive scheme
-
A better mike gesicki on a rookie contract is probably exactly what a team like the bills is looking for who have well documented red zone/short yardage struggles. I don’t think Mayer was even on the bills/cowboys radar. the only possibly way someone could even begin to see Mayer as better is factoring in his blocking which is not very important for the role Kincaid was drafted to fill Who’s better overall isn’t even really an important question as teams can both draft a TE or wr and use them in vastly different ways
-
Haha yea I thought I misread what he was saying at first …like if he ends up going completely against the grain saying Kincaid isn’t going to be as good as Mayer before even knowing the situation Mayer lands in and is right…that would be something to add to the resume. but breece hall being better than James cook was not a very bold prediction at the time and on top of that it may not even be correct going forward lol cook was on fire down the stretch and breece hall is now coming back from a serious injury
-
a bit of a different scenario there though…breece hall was gone for like 30 picks when the bills picked cook and he certainly hasn’t outperformed cook so far so it was not worthy of a trade up by any means at this way too early point to be evaluating lol not to mention you were with consensus of the nfl gms and analysts on hall vs cook but you are against them in Kincaid vs Mayer so we’ll see 😁 very different situation
