Status of the AFCE going forward
Generic_Bills_Fan replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall
I’m not sure how sustainable their roster will be though. All those guys they got early in this draft will need big contracts a few years down the road and they will likely be hovering around .500 going forward and picking later in the draft. The best way to ensure long term success is still franchise qb and Mike white is not quite there. They are definitely on the right track a lot more so than the dolphins though -
I said the same thing during the bills/dolphins game. I’m assuming McDaniel knows more than us casual fans 😂 so I’m thinking he just doesn’t trust his offense to pick up yards on the ground on obvious running downs. When they run effectively it seems like it only happens in between the 20s against light boxes. He may have been but I doubt he was exhibiting any symptoms so it’s not an excuse for the interceptions. Symptoms probably showed up post game
-
I don’t think so because they could be missing him for the NE game now if he doesn’t clear. They’d also need tua to lie about his symptoms to even get him into the protocol and I can’t see why he would want to do that. it could be he was fine during the game and the symptoms showed up later…that happens I think trent just got figured out…teams started dropping 8 into coverage and he was lost. He had one of the best games of his career against SD his first game back after the concussion

I watch a fair bit of giants games and the wr position may be poop but the roster as a whole isn’t. Thibodeaux/Leonard Williams/Dexter Lawrence are animals on the defensive side. Andrew Thomas has really come into his own in his third year too and finally gives them someone dependable on the offensive line. That’s what they were sorely missing last year. Theyve also got a healthy saquon this year too. that’s really all it takes to win some games with the schedule they have. They’re really winning with defense; all their wins/ties but one they have held their opponent to 20 or less points (packers scored 22) and they were all won by 8 points or less. They’ve also only beat one team who currently has a winning record (baltimore) although that could change if Jacksonville/gb win out
-
In what way? Daboll was with our team last year playing an easier schedule with an offensive line that was a little better than this year and he achieved about the same results. I’d argue that Dorsey has been more consistent honestly, there were a few games every season where the offense was just godawful for 4 quarters under Daboll and we haven’t seen that this season. We’re a few unforced errors away from being undefeated this year this is your classic ‘the grass is always greener’ situation. if we were playing kc’s schedule we are easily the best offense in the league statistically.

You don’t trade 5 picks for tyreek and a first rounder for Bradley Chubb to be a fringe playoff team with a chance at an ‘any given Sunday’ upset lol that’s literally my point. They traded more than a full draft in trade value for just two players. Tyreek is an amazing player but that is a win now type move when they are not even close to the best team in the AFC. They just don’t have the resources to shore up the defense now and replace some of their big contracts with rookie deals. They don’t have any cap space as it stands either. a tyreek trade like that would’ve been a good trade for someone, just not the dolphins. They must’ve thought their defense was much further along than it is. They are at or below flores win/loss levels now despite being more exciting on offense and trading away a ton of resources for much better players than Flores had. It’s honestly pretty embarrassing. People seem to be blinded by a fun offense though. the offensive scheme is also kind of gimmicky and busted…I don’t think there’s really a journeyman qb that can run it any better than tua. A volume quick passing/ timing offense revolving around freeing up receivers in the middle of the field comes with a lot lower margin for error than people seem to think. One overthrow and you’re pretty much cooked which is what we saw yesterday. It’s early in mcdaniel’s career so it could go either way, but the dolphins are a lot closer to full rebuild needed than Super Bowl candidate imo

Pats get in if it’s a 3 way tie between Miami,NYJ,NE at 8-9 and pit doesn’t win out which is also somewhat plausible. NE and NYJ both control their own destiny it looks like…if they win out either one can get in. Miami making the playoffs is far from a sure thing. There’s also a decent chance buffalo has nothing to play for week 18 depending on the scheduling of the games and how we do vs cincy Seattle isn’t very good and that jets defense is gonna give tua trouble so ya never know
-
That’s why the tyreek trade never made sense to me…it’s a win now move and they will not put the pieces together until tyreek is on the decline. No draft picks to turn over the roster now either
-
I totally called the Flores being a vastly underrated defensive coach but I didn’t even think they’d fall off that much with him gone 😂.
-
That jets defense might give Miami some problems…I’ve gotta think they roll with Flacco if white can’t go who is not good but an upgrade from Wilson for sure. Seattle is pretty bad and Lockett might not play again with a broken finger.
-
Jets control their own destiny though…that’s a pretty big thing for Miami to lose the handle on. Also if the bills lose to cincy and ne beats Miami, Buffalo essentially gets to choose who gets in the playoffs between ne and Miami. Pretty decent shot that game gets flexed so we’d know if the bengals hung onto the 2 seed or not before we even played. obviously if we beat cincy though we won’t be considering anything like that
-
I’m still amazed that they think that Kohou hold in the bills game was a blown call lol McKenzie beat the jam and Kohou held his jersey for like 15 total yards to avoid getting smoked 😂
-
They really don’t have any resources to draft a qb and that defense has a lot of talent but they’re playing like trash. Their defensive coordinator is in way over his head. They can try to sign a big time free agent to play qb but they’ve got that huge tyreek contract and waddle will need to get payed in a couple years.
-
The guy is clearly just throwing to spots where he expects his first read to be…he can’t make any adjustments based on what’s going on mid play. Even when it was working it was pretty evident what was going on. They just got ‘lucky’ and had all their games against teams with weak defenses that were huge mismatches in a row. He’ll be a career backup in a few years
-
Tua is a college qb…he’s a one read guy that’s just throwing to a spot on the field. Been sayin it for weeks now. Dolphins gonna try to upgrade at qb im guessing but they don’t have a lot of resources
-
The players liked Rex Ryan 😂 Mcdaniel has been a good offensive coach for the phins. He seems to have run a talented defense straight into the ground though. Not sure if it’s his DC or what but if they aren’t lights out in the red zone on offense they’re gonna struggle. Tuas got nearly 300 yards at half time and GB is in the game still.
-
Seems like the dolphins offensive concepts only work in space and with how potent their offense is in between the 20s, they really struggle in the red zone. The chiefs have as much speed and even less skill position talent and they seem way better in the red zone
-
Idk I think the results to this one are pretty important imo…played the number 1 rushing offense in a bad weather game and ran them out of the building. josh will be fine but the rush defense/tackling has been a little shaky so that was good to see
-
The goalpost moves by some of the negative posters always makes me chuckle…all week it was ‘we can’t run or stop the run, fields is great this is a trap game’ and we blow them out but it’s still not good enough lol seems like some people would’ve preferred if josh went off but we won a close one which makes no sense to me
-
People will one day learn that the weather hurts both teams but almost always the team without josh Allen more lol it’s not gonna be pretty on a windy day with wind chills below zero usually. There’s a lot of positives to take out of today too
-
Oh yea I agree with all that…I was just trying to say that it’s likely going to sort itself out down the stretch. Last year played out pretty similarly where the offensive line was brutal for a big part of the regular season. I think josh has been in the worst situation compared to the rest of the elite qbs this season
-
I think it’s a bit disingenuous to pin it all on ‘josh just wants to hit big plays’. When you’re getting holding calls against your offensive line consistently throughout the game, sustaining long drives becomes very difficult. When the offensive line pass blocks well, he hits all the throws. It seems like the big mistakes he’s made this year have pretty much immediately followed a holding call if the pass blocking improves I think a lot of the issues fix themselves…of course that’s a big if though 😂
