AFC Championship Game Week Thread - Bills at Chiefs
Generic_Bills_Fan replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
I have a conspiracy theory that when they drove down that far we were kind of like ‘flood the field with dbs so they either score fast to leave time for the offense or maybe we get an INT’ might’ve just worked out that way by accident though for sure 😂 -

I remember reading that too which leads me to believe Darnold won’t win. I feel like voters voted him as their number 2 just for a little recognition even though it’s not supposed to be what the award is about anymore and burrow will definitely win it…we’ll see though I guess -

He looked pretty good to me but it’s a steep falloff from brown to him if we’re talkin about run blocking imo -

I’m not 100% sure on this but I think the voting is you pick 5 guys for each award that you rank 1-5 and each ranking is worth different points. the ‘finalists’ are probably the top 5 point getters. So it might be a ‘hmm who do I write in for number 5…oh yea that damar Hamlin Hamlin guy from last year’ thing where he is a mile behind these other guys but still technically in the top 5 -

I think they changed the philosophy behind it to be closer to ‘guys coming back from major injuries and stuff like that’. They didn’t want it to be about ‘guys that sucked for awhile and were suddenly good’ so burrow who’s always good but was injured will very likely get it over Darnold -
They tried the 4-3 regular season a bit and two of the linebackers were Spector and morrow due to injury haha I don’t think it was a question of not having the right gameplan they just didn’t have the bodies to execute it. idk I think it was still a mismatch that we mitigated pretty well with a good gameplan. If you go heavy to stop the run you’ve still gotta contend with likely and Andrews in the passing game and they adjusted to our 4-3 as the game went on by going even heavier which seemed pretty effective. If you focus on clogging up interior running lanes Lamar can bounce it outside or vice versa. They really were an absolutely stacked team lol Henry still having gas in the tank was an absolute game changer for them. Back in 2020 everyone said it was a bad matchup and I felt exactly the same way as what you posted here because they really didn’t have that bowling ball type guy so you could focus more on containing Lamar

Not only did they have to move the goalposts but now they have to fight hard to defend why their 3 time mvp has only advanced past the divisional round once.

Milano too -
How do they determine the finalists? They count up the votes and send the 1-5 points getters?

He got outcoached in the regular season this year? Or am I reading that incorrectly. Can’t think of any other defensive performance against kc where Kelce got held under 10 receiving yards and mahomes had 0 scrambles -

Don’t think we were playing much jumbo back then and we were missing Spencer brown so I’m not sure how relevant the effectiveness level is from that last matchup but you are 100% right that we definitely tried lol -

Agree with a lot of this I think Kincaid has a really good matchup though I hate that I feel good about this game because it will make it all the more devastating if it doesn’t go how I expect 😂 but to me the chiefs have been playing a bit of a shell game trying to cover up their weaknesses and they’re running into the team that’s probably best equipped to expose them Running the ball and throwing to TEs and RBs is exactly how the bills want to play on offense, and sliding thuney to LT seems to have hurt the chiefs ability to run the football a bit which makes it a bit easier for the bills to have their fun in nickel lol the bills solid but not spectacular pass rushers finally have a couple matchups that seem favorable as well -

I went through how different coaches/qbs have fared against the mahomes chiefs in another post and it is absolutely shocking. You’d think the bills never beat them and everyone else does the way josh is talked about but the bills are really the only team having any kind of success against them at all lol -

He’s good in coverage and the guy he replaced was pretty bad. It’s definitely a notable upgrade as far as pass coverage goes, feels pretty shaky in run support to me though. I don’t think we’d beat him over the top but he’s gettable in other ways. someone out there in the twitterverse compared epa’s with/without Milano and with/without Watson and it worked out Milano added a little more value. Granted idk how far back they went cuz Milano was absolute dogsh*t his first couple weeks back and has turned it on since lol -
I feel like I get the vibe you’re going for and don’t necessarily disagree, but Baltimore had so much talent and was on paper such a bad matchup for us that I think that trumps the whole ‘kc has that magic quality to come up with a clutch play’ thing and Baltimore was definitely the tougher game imo. does not in any way mean this game is easy though or we will definitely win or anything like that. It could still easily go either way.

Mr Brightside Playing at the Stadium

I have never been to a wedding that didn’t play Mr brightside 😂. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen a larger collection of people that were not Mr brightside fans hahaha I thought I’d be just on the older side of posters here but I must be wrong -

He struggled on some routine throws in college at times and had a pretty bad performance in the passing drills in the combine and didn’t run the 40. the ‘running back trying to play quarterback’ label followed him far too long into his nfl career imo and maybe that was racially motivated, but I think trying to paint it as ‘he was disrespected in the draft for no game related reasons’ is a bit of a stretch imo Josh’s stock likely rose post combine because he showed off absolutely insane arm talent and ran a pretty respectable 40 considering he had the worst running form for a track event I’ve ever seen 😂. Im sure scouts knew his offensive line and passcatchers were absolutely dreadful in Wyoming also so the completion percentage type numbers were probably taken with a grain of salt -

That 2018 bills team was one of the most talentless groups I can remember and josh probably would’ve dragged them to a .500 record if he didn’t miss time it was very much a baptism by fire for Josh. It makes me chuckle a bit when teams assume their guy will make a Josh Allen leap after a bad rookie year not realizing a lot of what caused Josh Allen’s bad rookie year lol -

It’s kind of sad to see cuz both these guys definitely proved all their doubters wrong and are similar in a lot of ways. -
All this talk about lack of separation in passing game

Beasley and Diggs felt like they got manned up fairly easily come playoff time as well. I think that’s why we built so heavy into running the football. I remember a nice Diggs game against Miami but the cincy/kc type teams never had much trouble with him -
Oh 100% agree there no question…but it wasn’t like we were often getting stopped in the backfield for a sizeable loss. I didn’t specifically check for this but the only tfl I can remember in the second half was a 1 yard loss on first down after a nice run and we ended up converting the second and 11 ironically lol one of the big strengths of the bills running game is it very very rarely loses yards. my main point was we werent really behind the sticks that handful of times we stalled out and we couldn’t do anything in the passing game really. That doesn’t really bode well for the argument that we could’ve thrown the ball all over them if we wanted to imo. I can see why we didn’t want to 100% give up on the run. Some got stuffed but some hit for 7-8-10 yards stuff like that. Was pretty similar to the passing game in that regard
-
I think consistently watching all our WRs get held in the playoffs for years because that’s just how playoff football goes had us make a huge effort to improve the running game and now that is the strength of the team.. the way Baltimore was playing on defense even in the peak bills passing /mediocre rushing offense days I think we would’ve had a pretty terrible time moving the ball through the air on Sunday. The running game gave us a chance. whether he should or not is a different story 😂, but a lot of decisions mcd makes point to him trusting the defense imo

More often than not that’s what playoff football has felt like to me, DBs holding their a** off, olinemen holding their ** off, and refs just lettin all these guys fistfight eachother basically lol -
That’s the worst part…I love the dude but hate how some people talk about the dude making people think I don’t love the dude 😂
