10/14/24 Game 6 Bills at (NJ) Jets MNF 2nd Half Game thread
TheCockSportif replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
True, but Pegula lucked into hiring McD. Granted, I think that McD has run his course, but I don't trust Pegula with hiring another good HC for the Bills. During the drought years my Sundays ended, drunkenly (mostly), by like 9pm, as I knew this team's fate. Now it's a total crapshoot. The Bills aren't horrible by any stretch, but this year (or at least at this point of the season) they just aren't good enough. They could pull this one out, but it's going to be a dogfight until the bitter end, and unfortunately I'm just seeing a bitter end yet again this year. -

Hopefully it's a HC master stroke like he's done with the Sabres. Oh, wait... -

Had someone told me that the game would be playing out like this, I would have totally believed them. Can the Bills still make the playoffs this year? Sure. But it's going to be bumpy, and I sense yet another early exit -- should they make the playoffs at all. -

A(n) NFL game has two halves. With a winning first half performance then this team would've won. -
Avocado will do that to you, you know?

No, no, they're building a dome. I read it here first.

Flashback EJ manual comeback drive
TheCockSportif replied to mikemac2001's topic in The Stadium Wall
I agree with this to a point. QBs of an equal lack of effectiveness (Blaine Gabbert comes to mind, as does, ironically, the earlier rendition of Geno Smith) had a decade-long+ career in the league, as journeymen, and mostly as backups. EJ did not. Don't get me wrong. Having watched EJM in games was cringeworthy most of the time. Lack of awareness. Lack of pocket presence. Easily rattled. Made bad decisions. Singularly found a way to lose games for the team. But still, equally bad players have hung on much longer, as journeymen backup QBs, than EJ. Maybe he was a child-eating satanist. Who can say? -

In fairness, I think that a large percentage of league brass drafts high (or drunk, or both). -

Josh's left hand seems to be good (although it's probably not). This reminds me of the episode of The Simpsons where Homer drives over the (field goal) kicker only to learn that the kicker studied communications in college. The leg is reattached only to have the kicker attempt a kick -- the leg flies off during the kick -- and the kick was good! Therefore, I will be watching for a tipped pass where Josh's left hand flies off -- and leads to a completion for a TD. Gotta have (darkly funny) hope for a season, right? -

1 game in and it feels like they've already played 17. -
Saw Deadpool/Wolverine yesterday and left the theater happy. It was a perfect antidote to my current state of professional malaise, and did everything that I want a movie to do for me. Speaking of Top Gun Maverick, was pleasantly surprised / thought it was great, loved the flying scenes and overall grandeur of it. But at the same time there was a certain familiarity to it -- in the sense that it's premise seemed a lot like the original Star Wars.

I did kind of like the one about the vape pen, catching on fire, being put out with beer, and a sobriety check. -

I agree. This one was also astounding in its length. I swear that it's the longest and most caustic of the lot this year. -

This year was kind of a bummer. Plus there were a couple of guest writers who were so-so. I would always look forward to the ones about Dan Snyder, so sadly (I use that term lightly) something was missing in that regard this year. -

Is it really journalism though? I've always viewed it as stinging satire for the most part. -

Deadspin has its own torrid history. I think that they had to divest from a number of their properties (if memory serves, wasn't Hulk Hogan involved w a lawsuit?). Ultimately, Magary printed what I believe could be the trajectory of the team this year. I'm in the camp that thinks that the team is in for a reckoning. Naturally, they will win a Super Bowl and I will be shunned for life. But, know what? I'd be fine with that. -

In a way, I think, but reading TBD on the regular is basically the same tenor as what was written in WYTS. For example, I nearly lost control of my bodily functions a few years ago where a reader wrote in, about the Cowboys, when they talked about meeting Jerry Jones, he who was wearing one shoe when JJ entered the room, and then asked JJ about how he lost a shoe. Jerry Jones promptly corrected them and said that he FOUND a shoe. Still cracks me up to this day. (Full disclosure: I was dating a Texas-based pharma sales rep years ago and got a chance to meet JJ once. And he was *just* like that, like unironically.) Or the thing about the Eagles where someone wrote in about thinking of buying some kind of "hi-fi" system from Circuit City -- the salesperson asked if these people liked the Eagles, and everybody was like, "hell, yeah" -- only to realize that the salesperson decided to play them DVDs of a band called The Eagles. Maybe it goes without saying, but no sale was made on that day. It's probable that I still have in infantile sense of humor, but god, that stuff cracks me up. Every other thing was exactly like my 50 years of fandom. Ouch. -

https://defector.com/why-your-team-sucks-2024-buffalo-bills I usually love the Why Your Team Sucks things. Redskins/Commanders, Titans, Miami, Cowboys, Panthers, the Jets, and so on. Writing about teams that I dislike the most almost always entertains me the most. Oh yeah, and typically I absolutely love the one about Da Bills. However, this year, I don't see any reader comments (reader comments are always the funniest part of this all), and it's more of a documentary than actual satire. Ugh. YMMV as always. Incognito mode in Chrome, for example, lets you view this at zero cost. [EDIT: Well, I guess that user comments are up now, unlike they were 6+ hours ago. Can't wait to read them.]

I think that I'm getting old. In my youth, the Bills went 2-14 *twice* (this excludes the OJ years in the 1970s where I was incapable of reading -- I was lower than 3rd grade -- a defense and/or offense), then followed up with more coaching churn and, while having an AFCG appearance in 1988, a highly disappointing year in 1989, then followed by a dominant season that was culminated by Wide Right (and the rest to follow). Do I foresee a season of reckoning for the Bills this year? Possibly. Do I think that this squad is DOA with JA17 under center? No. I've literally seen everything, save for a SB win, for this team in my multiple decades of fandom. During the lengthy drought, there was no JA17, like at all. Literally anything can happen. Keep the faith. I'm kinda holding my breath around expectations this year, but most certainly I'll be watching.
