The Ringer ranking of Receiver Cores - Opinions???
Einstein's Dog replied to Billsfan1972's topic in The Stadium Wall
No, you shouldn't assume that last season the WR room was ranked lower. Prior to the beginning of last season we had high expectations for Gabe Davis - he was coming off a phenomenal playoff performance. Gabe looked to be an upper level WR2. At the slot we looked to be upgrading the fading Beas with Crowder- a seasoned veteran, along with a year older McKenzie, who had a great game when featured against the Patriots. Knox was a developing weapon and the Bills had drafted Shakir - considered a great value pick in the 5th. This year very few people have high expectations for Gabe. Most hope he can hang on to being a lower level useful WR2 based on volume. The slot is a question, being manned by no known veteran presence. Kincaid is intriguing but is a rookie. -

Brady is not the same as Josh. You don't construct your offense the same way. Josh is not easy to bring down, is elusive, and is one of the best ever throwing 20-25 yard downfield lasers. The best way to maximize that skill set is to give him another top quality WR. Upgrading the WR2 position would make this the most lethal offense in the league. -
The Ringer ranking of Receiver Cores - Opinions???

I think they ranked the Bills correctly, but I have a problem with it. I would like this to be an area the Bills prioritized into the top 10 range. It's my hope the FO has all along been considering the $10M WR2 upgrade. This put them in the OBJ + DHop discussions but ultimately got priced out. It would also mean that an in-season trade is a realistic possibility. If you put Mike Evans or Tyler Lockett into our group there would be a significant move up the ranks. -
the excellent start the Giants had at the beginning of last year I always thought was a problem. It was fools gold. That nice start may have brought in ownership input that the long term plan was now out. It may have prevented Shoen/Dabol from moving Barkley. And that domino may have played a part in the decision to extend Jones.

I think you can count rookies, their baseline is zero. So, I vote Kincaid! Kincaid - I think Shakir's drop further opened the door for more Kincaid. The secrecy of the lack of preseason reps is intriguing to me. I think one completion with the first team and Kincaid is out for the rest of the Pitt game with a starting and integral role secured. It's possible Kincaid gets a large role right from the start, the Jets on Monday night. They won't know what hit them. You mention fantasy football, Kincaid has 50/50 chance of being a top 5 TE in 2024. Dorsey - last year Dorsey was under the continuity directive. This year Dorsey gets to put his imprint on the offense. Like to see a huge role for Kincaid, using 12 personnel more than ever here, more balance with the run, and having Josh take a more insertive role - calling plays and going no-huddle.

I agree that it looks kind of piecemeal and short term thinking. Bringing back Danny and Barkley looks like a recipe for 3rd in the division for years to come. It's a tough road to the playoffs when you're third in the division. And not making the playoffs can get you fired. Shoen/Daboll didn't do the hard and bold move Beane and McD did.

I can understand the interest in our old boys, but liking all their moves? Not so much. No problem with the dumpster diving and recycling of the old Bills players, it's reminiscent of the Bills/Carolina routine. But none of those players are going to amount to much (and that includes Beas). The real problem is the Daboll/Shoen duo are fully responsible for foolishly giving Danny Dimes big money and giving large salaries to RBs. That was not the lessons coming from the Bills. That is like extending Tyrod and giving McCoy a big contract back in the day. The duo is selling out for the short term and I don't think it will work.

My point with the Chargers wasn't the actual players but that the WR2 is a $20M guy (same w Raiders, Tampa). The post I responded to was saying someone should get fired if they moved a corner for a top WR2. That comment doesn't make sense if you compare the money. My reply to you had been the possible movement of a corner if our draft cb picks hit, and they are top 15ish. Then Tre might become available. I admitted it was an optimistic long shot. We don't have anything resembling a WR1 if Diggs goes down (much better choices at CB1). And Davis hasn't really proved himself as WR2 (several CB2s). The possibility of what amounts to moving Tre for a Chris Godwin/M Evans/T Lockett might be something on Beane's radar.
-
I don't think you've thought this out. Top WR's are hard to come by. Raiders have D Adams/H Renfro and paid $20M for J Meyers. Tampa has M Evans and C Godwin (and had Gage and Gronk at one time), Chargers have K Allen and M Williams. That's the type of WR tandem I'm talking about, and they are not cheap. If McD doesn't think he loses much by replacing Tre with Benford, that $10M could go a long ways to improving the offense. That could be Mike Evans money right there.

Not cut Tre, trade him. And yes, I agree quite unlikely. I'm just trying to think outside the box to move resources over to WR2.

Good Night / Bad Night - Pre-season game 1
Einstein's Dog replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
To me, it seems like you are placing way too much importance to a press conference. For a veteran, this is similar to coachspeak, not worth much. A self-aware K Allen may have discussed his upcoming press conference with his agent. That advice would be "put a positive spin on it", emphasis your experience in the league, don't talk negative about anyone. You don't admit problems or put out a negative media segment when you could be looking for employment in a couple of weeks. -
Josh Allen: Assistant Offensive Coordinator?

Josh Allen: Assistant Offensive Coordinator?
Einstein's Dog replied to BigAl2526's topic in The Stadium Wall
Great to hear. One step closer to having Josh go no-huddle when they get advantageous player situations. And that should happen quite a bit more this year with the problems Kincaid can present to D Coordinators. -
IMO, there could be a third option. That Tre is back or close to back. But Elam and Benford and the rest of the room show so much, that the difference is minimal. In other words the CB room is such that the while Tre is still the man, the others are in the same tier, but at a much greater value. This would be using McD's expertise to coach and scheme with a less expensive group of CBs.

My understanding was the rule was about piped in noise. And it was not dumb. I have a recollection of a playoff game, at I think Cincy, and they intentionally blasted in noise in from the stadium when the Bills were on offense to make it more difficult for the Bills. It was wrong. It wasn't crowd noise, it was from the stadium speakers.

I'm hoping the FO is interested in the in-season trade candidates, such as: Mike Evans - Tampa should stink. Their WR group is expensive and they will probably want draft capital for a run at a QB. Evans is on the last year of his contract, and they could pick up his $13M a third of the way through and send Tampa the Edmunds third we have. Tyler Lockett - Seattle will probably suck and like Tampa above would want draft capital. Seattle also has a lot invested in WR and may want to move Tyler. J Jeudy/C Sutton - there had been rumors. Probably harder now that T Patrick already had his year ending injury. M Thomas - probably a long shot in that N Orleans should win the division, but if things go badly for them. Honorable mentions: H Renfro (but I don't really want a slot), A Thielen (maybe too old and just signed this yr), C Samuel (don't know how good he is).

Often times the "discount" is you're giving the current market rate to rising prospect before they hit the open market. The player is amenable to doing it because they get big guaranteed money a year early. I would expect to see this type of bargaining to take place with Groot. As for Gabe, I would like the FO to consider other options for WR2 in the $10-$12M range.
-
I agree, the idea of giving Gabe $15M per season seems outrageous. That's more than DHop got. If you are signing Gabe early, like now, the FO would be doing so to get a discount. A perceived discount to what he would get when hitting FA, so around $8M - $10M. I wouldn't do it if I were the GM. Personally, I am still holding out hope that the FO will pick up a WR2 before the trade deadline. Move Gabe back to where he is a stellar Wr3 and let him hit FA next year and hopefully get a compensatory pick after another team signs him to a contract.

Is the MLB Competition Over Before It Started?
Einstein's Dog replied to JackKemp's topic in The Stadium Wall
Apparently from the discussion people aren't seeing Klein in the mix. I liked the defense the second week without Edmunds, when they adapted for Klein. They made an attacking defense where Klein either stuffed the run or went after the QB. He seemed more suited for that role than Edmunds, and it sped up decisions needed by apposing QBs. I liked the defense better in that attack mode. -
If Kincaid can fill the slot role of this team...
Einstein's Dog replied to Cray51's topic in The Stadium Wall
I agree it is something Kincaid will need to learn. But hopefully with the huge advantage of being 50 - 60 pounds heavier than your average DB it will be something he could master quickly. -

For me it's Dorsey and Josh...we think Josh should be able to do it. Josh now has almost 5 years in, he needs more of a command out there, take control of dictating pace's at times when he thinks it's advantageous, better grasp of time management, get more free plays, changing calls, and knowing when and implementing no-huddles. While we often know we have the more talented, physical, QB, it is getting time to also want the smarter more experienced angle to show. -

I'm hoping we see Dorsey/Josh take advantage of personnel mismatches that arise with putting Kincaid out there. I hope to see some no-huddle used to keep the defense from substituting when the offense has caught the defense with a situation the Bills like. For instance when putting Kincaid out in 12 grouping and the defense responds by putting out an extra LB. Then the Bills might do no-huddle to force the D to have to keep that LB out there and try to cover Kincaid w an LB. Or if the D puts out a DB when Kincaid goes out there, the Bills might want to go power smash ball and run it down their throat for a few plays. -
Giants and Barkley agree on a 1-year 11M deal
Einstein's Dog replied to Gregg's topic in The Stadium Wall
I have said before, and still think, the unexpectedly good start last year was not great for the long term. It may have altered their moving Barkley and may have been a factor in their decision to fund Danny. Being one of the teams with a mediocre QB and a good, expensive RB is not the answer. Looks like Shoen/Daboll are going a different path than what they experienced with the Bills years ago. This is like extending Tyrod and paying McCoy, hoping you can keep a slightly above .500 team together and sneak into the playoffs again. I don't know if they'll make it, and even if they do their long term prospects don't look great to me.
