The good recipe against the smellfish
Einstein's Dog replied to Italian Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall
Adjusting our Offense because we are scared of theirs is a mistake IMO. The offense should take what the defense gives us. And yes, the defense should be giving us easy run lanes and screens because the Fish have to protect against 20 yard lasers from a 6'5" laser throwing Manchild. It's why we routinely get the cover 2. If the Fins (Fangio) get cute and try to use a normal defense we should make them pay. And when we get up by two scores don't forget it's the Fish that need to be careful. The Bills started the derailment of their season last year by starting the Tua concussion parade. We've already ruined the Jets season by taking out their QB. And I don't know if M White really wants any part of getting into this game. -
I believe G Davis is failing his trial run for locking down the WR2 position. While I would love getting D Adams I don't think it is in the budget range. Seemed like OBJ and DHop were too expensive at the $12M range. For the in-season trade candidates that I am hoping we are considering, it was a good week 3. Tampa is coming back to Earth quickly by being crushed, if that continues the M Evans hope can be brought back up (my personal top candidate). J Meyers of Vegas is probably more realistic than Adams. Meyers is around $11M year - and Raiders need draft capital to get a real QB - our Edmunds third should be more than enough (maybe have them eat some of the salary). Denver stinks and one of C Sutton or J Jeudy should be available. The Rams are headed downward and have an excess of WRs once C Kupp comes back - don't know how they could get Kupp though.

Dalton replaces Beasley. We could still use a WR2 that replaces the J Brown/E Sanders of years past. The promotion of Gabe did not work out (IMO). I think the FO had considered around a $10M investment with OBJ and DHop. When that didn't work they decided to try to see if Gabe could fill the gap again. It's not working. That $10M and the 3rd rounder (for Edmunds) should be able to get us a nice WR for 2/3's of this season (and hopefully with a contract that goes through another 2 more seasons as Diggs insurance). My dream scenario is work it out w M Evans. But we have some pretty decent RBs. We don't have a good WR2. Do you really think JT would help this team more than M Evans?
-
I'm hoping they are looking in-season for WR2 upgrade. IMO they have been giving a trial period for one more chance for Gabe - and if the Jets game is any indication, he failed. There may be some good WR2's on the market before the trade deadline. I'm hoping Tampa comes back to reality - M Evans would be a great fit. Denver looks putrid, maybe C Sutton. Raiders might be willing to move J Meyers. Maybe Seattle crashes and T Lockett is available.
-
The Bills don't need a bonafide WR1, just a significant upgrade in WR2. Are you saying M Evans is a WR1, because Tampa has C Godwin and M Evans. LAC has K Allen and M Williams. Jax has Ridley and Kirk. LVR has Adams/Meyer and Renfro. IMO, the best move to upgrade the Bills would be to get a significant upgrade at WR2. I do think the FO has a budget in mind and OBJ and DHop were above it.
-
But Shanahan doesn't have an incredibly gifted QB that throws the best 25 yard lasers in all of football on his squad. If he did, he might prioritize getting that QB a second top notch WR to use this unworldly talent.
-
Why not a WR? Davis does not cut it IMO. Use the remaining resources on a real weapon besides Diggs. Get a good WR before the trade deadline. I still have hopes for M Evans, Tampa could easily lose four out of the next five and look to deal him after we play them (Philly, NO, Det, Atl, Buff). Maybe D Adams if the Raiders tailspin. Maybe C Kupp. Getting an upgrade at WR2 does the most for elevating this offense.

Can we talk about Gabe Davis's performance?
Einstein's Dog replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm still hoping the FO can pull off the Mike Evans deal. I was disgusted when I saw the replay of the pathetic route that Davis ran on one of the interceptions. Upgrading WR2 from Davis to Evans would elevate the entire WR core. -
Unfortunately for Dorsey, time spent in the office is not important in my evaluation of him. The ranking of the offense is most important and the following are the items I would like to see done: 1. get Kincaid involved early and often. This is number one on my list and is a big departure from what they did with Hines. 2. Run Josh less on designed runs and short yardage. Let Josh's scrambles account for his running total (until maybe the playoffs). 3. Get Josh on the same page and get more short passes incorporated - swings and screens.

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/mike-evans-landing-spots-cowboys-chiefs-jets-among-potential-fits-for-buccaneers-pro-bowl-wr/ No mention of the Bills, but I don't see how Dallas and NYJ are considered more likely candidates. If Gabe doesn't show that he should be extended, then Beane needs to consider alternatives. from article: Given what his agent recently stated, Evans wants to continue playing for a team that pursuing championships. Evans, whose career will undoubtedly receive Hall of Fame consideration one day, would probably accept a smaller role on a team that has a good chance at winning it all.

https://www.nfl.com/news/mike-evans-agent-sets-sept-9-deadline-in-contract-talks-with-buccaneers From the article: Perhaps the statement piques the interest of WR-needy teams who would be comfortable paying Evans' asking price, and the Bucs welcome the chance to trade the wideout before losing him next year. Surely, a smart shark will make a call to check. The Mike Evans train out of Tampa is picking up steam. Gabe better display an elevated game early in the season or else acquiring Evans could be on the table.

Josh Allen and starters will play against the Bears
Einstein's Dog replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'll be interested to see what they do with Kincaid. I'm hoping to see him just block. It could be interpreted as an advanced signal to Bills homers that Kincaid is ready. The FO would be setting up the Jets to put in an LB when Kincaid comes in. Then not only abuse the LB, but go no huddle and keep the mismatch on for a whole series. -

Einstein's Dog replied to JerseyBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
Also, you have him work on his blocking. It's not like he can't get better. That's what they did the first preseason game. And when teams start putting in a DB when Kincaid is out there, then his assignment could be to handle a DB 60 pounds lighter than him. That kind of blocking assignment/mismatch can really help the appearance of someones blocking skills. -

I've been added to the excited group. Originally while loving the pick, I was of the "draft is for the future crowd", and we'll have to wait for a while to see the real value. I've upgraded my time table. If the offense/Dorsey does what I am hoping he will deserve a ton of credit. There is the growing possibility that Dorsey is going to unleash DK2 on the Jets. I would love to see it. My optimism has reached levels where I have started looking for the -

DK2 is enough for me. He is the second DK on the team to Knox Then the DK2 semi-automatic is the natural progression for the no=huddles that Dorsey should be implementing because of Kincaid mismatches. The DK2 semi-automatic is the progression/improvement from the years ago K-gun based on the TE. -
It's about choices. It seems that the FO has a plan that RBs and the new MLB will not be paid big bucks. DL is entirely different (and extremely important). I agree with the FO and would prefer they figure out the MLB problem with the current roster and McD scheming. My hope is they spend the remaining money on upgrading WR2.
-
This is over the top panic. Klein + Rapp situationally until Williams is ready. McD needs to use schemes that make this work. Seems like just yesterday 80% of the board was all for transferring assets from the defense over to offense. Of course now when it is being implemented the nervous nellies and McBeane haters are quick to forget.

First, I'll say I don't think Dorsey needed any excuses from last year. Our top goal in hiring Dorsey was continuity and he delivered. Top 5 in yards and points. If you scrutinize him you can certainly find faults - but you can for all the OCs. This year goal number 1 is to use D Kincaid. Use Kincaid early and throughout the season. There have been other offensive weapons brought last year that were not incorporated (Hines). Dorsey does not have the luxury to do that in my assessment. Secondly, I would like to see plays designed to take the pressure off intense pass rushes. Make the defenses at least a little hesitant to bull rush Josh. Keep trying to get better at screens, get some swing pass game, and maybe some draws.

Dorian and my pet peeve with the staff on rookies

Proven????....because you liked what you saw in 2 vanilla preseason games against dubious competition. And from that you can conclude this as some sort of litmus test that sorts out the good staffs from the bad. Really? -

To me the OP has the right hope but placed in the wrong spot. Let's get Kincaid out there early. Early and often. It is so much a possibility people seem to take it for granted now. Use Kincaid from the start. You let Kincaid play through errors if necessary. Kincaid is the guy to use quickly Get Torrence PT and hopefully starting by 4-5 games into the season. As for Williams, not so fast. I've been surprised the MLB hasn't been a Klein/Rapp split from the start. Williams is in no way Kincaid. Shakir wasn't ready for a larger role then. And I don't know if he has earned a role now even. Cook needed time but has responded, Shakir not so much. -
The Ringer ranking of Receiver Cores - Opinions???
Einstein's Dog replied to Billsfan1972's topic in The Stadium Wall
Actually last year there was the proven Crowder taking the place of the fading Beas. And the trend line for Gabe was upward. The limited PT for McK had showed positive. I was optimistic last year (although I still wanted them to take a WR in the 1st Watkins/Pickens- but the draft is primarily for the future). What I think the poster above was comparing was the end of last year to the beginning of this year. In that regard I can see the hope of the new to be greater than the disappointing performances of Crowder + McK (and rookie Shakir). But for me it's hard to get around the regression/trend of Gabe now. -

No, you shouldn't assume that last season the WR room was ranked lower. Prior to the beginning of last season we had high expectations for Gabe Davis - he was coming off a phenomenal playoff performance. Gabe looked to be an upper level WR2. At the slot we looked to be upgrading the fading Beas with Crowder- a seasoned veteran, along with a year older McKenzie, who had a great game when featured against the Patriots. Knox was a developing weapon and the Bills had drafted Shakir - considered a great value pick in the 5th. This year very few people have high expectations for Gabe. Most hope he can hang on to being a lower level useful WR2 based on volume. The slot is a question, being manned by no known veteran presence. Kincaid is intriguing but is a rookie. -

Brady is not the same as Josh. You don't construct your offense the same way. Josh is not easy to bring down, is elusive, and is one of the best ever throwing 20-25 yard downfield lasers. The best way to maximize that skill set is to give him another top quality WR. Upgrading the WR2 position would make this the most lethal offense in the league. -

I think they ranked the Bills correctly, but I have a problem with it. I would like this to be an area the Bills prioritized into the top 10 range. It's my hope the FO has all along been considering the $10M WR2 upgrade. This put them in the OBJ + DHop discussions but ultimately got priced out. It would also mean that an in-season trade is a realistic possibility. If you put Mike Evans or Tyler Lockett into our group there would be a significant move up the ranks.
