How many years for the Bills?

For McD when he started? 3 years.

Lol no the Bills had a winning record 3 years before McD started.  Come on man.

As for the postseason, Harbaugh took those teams far for what he had. Going to the conference Chamionship with an Alex Smith/Kaepernick combo is great, McD has elite Josh Allen and can't get as far as Harbaugh.

That was a well played super bowl, he didn't choke.

Miami bringing him in is not good for us,  face it.

Guy has a better record and been more successful than McDermott and that's a quantifiable fact.

This is just plainly wrong. Mahomes was sacked 4 times for 40 yards - at crucial times compared to 2 for 8 against us (one was a -.5 yard scramble).  The Bengals got consistent pass rush and their corners dealt with the receivers much better. We gave Mahomes a 33/44-378-3-0 line with a 123 rating compared to 26/39-275-3-2 against the Bengals. Big time sacks, shutting down the big plays, and getting sacks was the difference in the ballgame. The Bengals in no way outgunned our offense

Our #1 defense was a bloated metric due to beating up trash opponents with one of the three easiest schedule sin the league. They fell flat against big time competition.

Yes, the Bengals got more pressure because of how they approached Mahomes. If your watched the game it had to do with spying Mahomes as I mentioned.

The Bills created plenty of "pressure" on Mahomes but he scrambled out to wide open field for big gains.  Cinci put a spy on him all day and when he turned his back to scramble, a very bad habit of his he did repeatedly during the game, the spy would crash down on him. The spy contained him all game as well.

See, where we pushed Mahomes out of the pocket, he ran and picked up gobs of yards or made unimpeded throws out of the pocket. Whereas Cinci was able to use the spy to contain him and crash him once he took his eyes away from downfield and did not let him get comfortable on the run.

That's coaching.  Or defense has the talent and production.

Regardless that game was won and the coaching staff was negligent in their play calls at the end of the game, handing KC free yards and a FG.

    Why the Harbaugh love?

Sure, he turned around a SF team and with the help of Roman, made Alex Smith into a serviceable QB, and accumulated a winning record.

But he also mis-managed the QB situation there in most hindsight judgements - Alex Smith went on to 7 years of solid QB play with 2 teams, including 4 playoff appearances and improved performance stats for the most part.  Yeah, he's not Pat Mahomes but he proved better than the "Hot hand" Kaepernick.

He also kind of seems to wear out his welcome after a few years.

Took over for a franchise that didn't have a winning record in 9 years...

    In 4 seasons he had:

.695 record in the regular season

3 conference Chamionship appearances with one that went to the super bowl where his team fell short to a white hot Joe Flacco that had a historic postseason.

He did this with Alex Smith and Kaepernick at QB.

He's also won double the challenges of McD in 1 less season.

Harbaugh is a great coach, with an outstanding track record of taking mediocre QBs very far.  People mocking him have their heads in the sand, especially in comparison to McDermott.

We want Miami to go after another rookie coach coordinator like Sparano, Philbin, Gase, Flores... not a guy like Harbaugh.

    literally, yes.

Did you even watch our game or the Bengals game? Defense is undeniably what cost us and won the Bengals that game, despite Burrow's gaudy box score.

Is this the Right To Censor version of Bull?

Dude, we had the #1 defense on the league this year,  it aren't "fixing" that.... yes, I watched our game and the Bengals game, did you? What did the Bengals do?... They played physical, spied Mahomes all game, and when Mahomes turned his back to scramble the spy crashed on him. Our defense had the personnel to do that, but we didn't draw it up that way.

We had the game won, with our defense, and the coaching staff utterly blew it in historic ineptitude.

Harbaugh has a better record, better postseason success, with inferior QBs, and won double the challenges with one less year.

It's not even really an argument.  He's had more success better track record with less lol... unless you want to tell me regular season record and post season success don't matter...

Well, if there are any more 50 MPH wind games...

We play outdoors in Buffalo so yes, we will have plenty more games in poor weather.  We got comically outcoached that game.

We can't play in Buffalo and blame the weather, brother.

Saying we need to "fix" the #1 defense is ignoring the actual problem IMO.

  7. 43 minutes ago, Doc said:

But the team that wins the coin toss still has a 10-2 record this year.  That's a problem.

Huh?  The Bills' defense let up 36 points in regulation.  The Bengals allowed 24.  The loss of Tre was huge.

Rewatch the last 13 seconds... it's the coaching not the defense that lost the game.

Also Cinci had a spy on Mahomes all game and delayed rush, again,  coaching.

#1 D in the league, plus Josh Allen top 3 offense and we won only 11 games (10 in the first 17 weeks)? 0-6 in one score games? Coaching.

  8. 40 minutes ago, Doc said:

Oh, I never said it was a bad move.  Depending on how he rubs people (considering what got Flores fired).  He's a better coach than what they've had, presuming he can pick up where he left off in the NFL.  But I'm not overly concerned.  With an elite QB like Josh it makes it harder for them.

We split with NE this year who had Mac Fn Jones. Sorry but coaching concerns me lol

That Grim Reaper thing lasted about a week for Mahomes. LOL.

    What a total choke job.

Friends, we have the honor of having the most dangerous QB in the NFL today.

Lets get this defense straightened out.

    THE DEFENSE??!!!??? HAHAHAHA

oh yeah, that's what cost us the game... the defense.

OK, you make a convincing argument.  Will he be able to duplicate what he did 8 years ago in Miami?  It's doubtful but time will tell.

I think he can, but we don't know.

I think people celebrating this as a bad move are out of their minds, this is not good for us, we want Miami to go for another rookie coach coordinator again.  Not an experienced coach with success and a great offensive mind that got to 3 conference Chamionship with Alex Smith and Kaepernick.

Sparano, Philbin, Gase, Flores... that's what we want.

Look what Belichick got out of that Patriot squad this year, we don't want more good coaching in the division.

Yes would like to clean up the drops. Knox without a doubt a top 10 TE who is very explosive. Let’s get rid of him 😳🙄.. he made huge strides this year. And has excellent chemistry with JA. Well well above  mediocre.

I don't think people want to get rid of him, but rather they don't want to pay him big money.... he's never had 50 catches or 600 yards you can't pay big money for that especially when he's been on a high powered offense.

He has gotten better each year so maybe he really breaks out next year.  But as it stands now he's not worth large money he'll command.

He might be fit for a transition tag though since the question is the money.

McD taking the Bills to the playoffs his first season, with far less talent than Harbaugh had, was impressive.  The next year the Bills had $70M in dead cap to get rid of.  The last 2 seasons are what's most important.

Okay and McD has achieved less with Allen the last 2 years than Harbaugh did in SF...

    I mean Harbaugh has:

    -Better record

    -Better postseason success

    -With inferior QBs

-Won double the challenges with 1 less season.

I don't understand how anyone can objectively say McD has been better even though he's had less success.

  13. 3 minutes ago, Doc said:

Arguable.  But Josh being the best QB negates anything else.

I don't think it's arguable at all, it's pretty clear cut.

Harbaugh is 44-19-1 (.695) as an NFL head coach. The 49ers did not have a winning season in 9 years prior to when he took over, in his 4 seasons he went to a super bowl and 2 more conference Chamionship games with Alex Smith and Kaepernick as his QBs. His team lost a close super bowl to a white hot Joe Flacco who had a historic postseason.

He's also won 12 challenges in 4 seasons opposed to the 6 by McD in 5 seasons.

He's been more more successful than McDermott with less talent at his disposal and it's not even really close.

  14. Third straight year of improving his once horrific drops. Still has plenty of bone head plays - drops, penalties - remember his false start that cost us points in the first Patriots game? He was brutal that day.

Even so with his big breakout this year we are talking. 40-something catches and 500- something yards? That grows on trees with a QB as productive as Allen.  Not worth big money.

We'll see how he improves next season, he's got lots of athletic ability just a rock head.

My Dad has been on this site for years. He passed away last night. He coached 17 years at the high school level and Junior College level. He had the privilege of coaching 6 future NFL players and I loved discussing x & O's with him by as early as i was five years old. He made all six of kids Bills fans even though we lived in SoCal! He even flew us to New York for the 2004 and 2005 NFL drafts!! You don't need to leave this post up if it's not the right forum. Just wanted to say that he loved the Bills since '65. There's still a poster of Jack Kemp and a team photo/plaque of the 1965 Bills on the wall in his game room. Thanks All and that is all. Go  Bills

Very sorry to hear about your loss, Garrett. Hope you and your family are doing well given the circumstances and remember your father fondly in this time.

    Thank you for sharing.

A possible reason to care is the extra point would have been backed up 15 yards.   If the extra point was missed then KC would not have been able to tie the game with a field goal.   So yeah, I kind of cared about the non call…

There's zero chance we take that penalty on the XP instead of the kickoff. We would have made the play for better field position with only 1:02 left and needing a TD regardless of the XP.

I get so tired of people making like McDermott is stupid or something

Someone recorded the Chiefs game and hasn't watched it yet...

Also let's keep in mind he's the same coach that was obsessed with Nate Peterman.

But in all seriousness it should be Dorsey without question. It's the conservative route anyway because of continuity.

If that move was about Daboll, why didn't he play him during the year?  Its not like we didn't need a hard north-south RB during the season.  He is the OC after all

Maybe Dabol he liked him, maybe he didn't, impossible to tell. Maybe neither Dabol nor McD liked him and he was a front office favorite...

But the OC serves at the pleasure of the HC and the HC will be making the call on roster decisions,  to what degree he works with the OC on those calls is up to him.

  19. Below average starter.

Undersized, lacks power, lacks speed. Shifty.

He really came on down the stretch and started running differently stopped trying to juke every single defender and kept his legs moving downfield,  started absorbing contract instead of dancing around it.

He's a solid complementary backup at best, JAG at worst.

We need a true starter with more size and either more power or speed or both.

I was really hoping for Javonte Williams last draft he would have been spectacular in this offense.
