It is situational. Clearly you can't have DBs simply clobbering recievers because they got burned. But when Russell Wilson underthrows a pass by 10 yards, and the WR turns first and stops in his tracks due to the underthrow, and the defensive back runs into him, it should not be a spot foul.

A couple of concrete suggestions: 1) Defensive Pass Interference is the single biggest game changer. I think the rules would be much improved if there were two versions of DPI (like there is with fask masking, or roughing the kicker). Flagrant/Intentional spot foul as it is now. Incidental, same as defensive holding, five yards automatic first down. Obviously this involves some judgement, still but I think it would be better. 2)Roughing the Passer. Another game changer. Like roughing the kicker, I feel like there needs to be a five yard and 15 yard version. Again, it involves judgement, but I think we all know that when they wait until Patrick Mahomes requests the RTP call, it likely means it was not flagrant, as one example.

Its not really a lynch mob. Not everyone agrees on the measure of a draft success. For example. Devin Singletary - 3rd round pick, four seasons with the Bills, 3100 yards. Left team without futher compensation to the Bills. This was a good pick. Not bad, not great. If he goes on to a hall of fame career as a Texan, that does not change in the slightest the level of production the Bills got from the pick. Isaiah Pacheco - a guy with practically the same level of production as Singletary. Very similar results, but by the nature of being a 7th round draft pick it is reasonable to call this a great Draft pick. For whats it is worth, Since Beane figured out how to get Josh Allen, I would never consider Beane below a good drafter in terms of career results. Allen is a lifetime achievement award for Beane as far as I am concerned. I think McDermott could possibly be replaced with a better head coach. I think it is very unlikely the Bills could replace Beane with a better GM. The Eagles and Chiefs GMs are better, with better results. No other GMs in the league are clearly better. Most are worse than Beane.

All 17 games count the same. Blundering away games, and chalking it off to "its early in the season" leads to the situation the Bills are in now. Unless 10-7 includes Miami also finishing 10-7 or worse, with the Bills beating them twice, 10-7 is now statistically very unlikely to gain a wild card spot.

I agree with the PFF metrics. However having the #1 defense, according to pff play by play analysis, is rather meaningless if your offense is turning the ball over four times giving the opponent good field position.
