Very impressive statistical. It truly is an outlier in the history of the NFL. Also probably less important that people think. In the modern NFL a punt is not much different than a turnover against the stronger teams. NFL games are not nearly as much about field position as they were even 30 years ago. The 15-1 Chiefs were 11th in turnover differential. The Chiefs were #1 in points scored per drive minus pts allowed per drive. Stops are not as dramatic as turnovers. But nearly as effective.

Mayo seemed like a jerk. Team didn't improve a lick during the season. Didn't show anything warranting wasting Mayo for an extended period of time. Their are simply better options.

This reminds me of the Broncos firing Nate Hackett or Jags firing Urban Meyers. Bad hire. Move on.

NFL organizations are faced with tough decisions. Depends on the framing of the issue. If the judgement is "Vrabel is better than Mayo" and the judgement is "Its not or never for Vrabel", then its not a dysfunctional decision to replace him. The patriots don't exist to give Mayo a chance to "prove himself". Vrabel iwhtout the benefit of a Top QB, made it to the playoffs a handful of times, losing to the Chiefs, and Bengals and Ravens. Once in a championship game. If he had been a Bills coach this track record would be considered irreplaceable by many Bills fans.

there may be lots of reasons to retain the Bills coaching staff. Clutch defensive performance in playoff games is not high on the list of retention reasons.

I think almost any staff can take over this defense and hold the Rams to 44 points.
