Its a great skill to consistently succeed in lowering the benchmarks of success. Many long careers are based on this simple strategy.

I think if the Bills don't win the division, and the division winner goes further in the playoffs than the Bills, that nearly catostrophic.

I did not have the energy to read the whole thread. What is the speculation on what McDermott is "very worried" about? Is McDermott concerned this will negatively impact Digg's performance? Is McDermott concerned Diggs will not play this year? Is McDermott concerned he has lost the locker room?

If the Dolphins, Jets or Patriots make it deeper into the playoffs than the Bills, 2023 could be McDermott's final season as the head coach of the Bills. It would be hard to understand the point of bringing him back after that. But another trip to the divisional round with some combination of the Bengals, Chiefs, Ravens advancing to the championship game probably keeps McDermott in the Marvin Lewis/ Dan Reeves sweet spot.

I don't think the problem is being defensive minded. Or being the #1 or #2 spender on the defensive side of the roster. or spending most of the draft capital since Josh Allen was drafted (before 2023) on defensive players. I think the problem is doing 1,2 & 3 and having as a result a defense that chokes or doesn't show up in playoff games.

I am pretty old. Kosar was simply not elite. He was fun. But no one expected championships because Kosar was your QB. No one is instantly a HOF coach. So again, you seem to have no point. Other than Joe Gibbs most HOF coaches are paired with HOF QBs during their championship runs. Reid was not a sure fire HOF coach prior to Mahomes. Now he is. Bellichek may never have one any championships without Tom Brady. Marv Levy was not a HOF coach without Jim Kelly. Josh Allen is on a level similar to Dan Marino. If Allen never wins a superbowl his place in football history will be headlined by discussions of whether Allen or Marino was the best QB to never win a superbowl. No one will ever put Bernie Kosar into that discussion.

Imagine an oline with all first round picks including stars added in free agency. Josh could play until he was 50.

There are logical reasons to block players from all gambling, even casino gambling. Simiar to drug problems, gambling additictions can cause big issues, and NFL players are in a unique position to "solve" their gambling problems with questionable play. Most of us can't pay off gambing debts by doing a bit less than usual at our jobs.

McDermott has done enough that if he makes it to the Super Bowl this year, his fans are entitled to say "I told you so". If the Bills bow out at the divisional round or earlier, his critics are entitled to say "I told you so". Its a pretty clear line.

What are there playoff percentages? How far do there teams advance in an average year. Regular season percentages have a lot to do with the division you play in, and the rest of your schedule. Also, McDermott has been blessed with a top QB for all but the first 1 1/2 years of his tenure. Belichek had that in NE, and did much more with it. Reid never had that in Philadelphia. Once he has had that in KC, he has done much more with it.

Beane has built a team that is consistently in the top 8. This is a fact. Nothing to dispute.

Why is it laughable? There are many occasions where fans are right and the front offices are not. Certainly not the every time. Nuts laughable to suggest the fans can’t get it right some of the time. I suppose it’s your prerogative to state it would be laughable for yourself to ever be right instead of a coach or GM, but you shouldn’t extrapolate from your own shortcomings.
