Mahomes wears pads and has an offensive line to keep him healthy. What's the point of having pads and blockers if you're still going to ban something that has a 99.75% chance of not breaking your neck? Have you even done your own research, or do you just trust what ever GODell tells you?

Given that this is a football board and political discussions are banned, I thought it was pretty obviously about facemasks.

Everyone knows that the NFL has a rule against grabbing the opposing team's facemasks. It results in a 15 yard penalty. Supposedly the thought process behind the rule is player safety. According to the league, players are at risk of sustaining serious neck injuries if they are jerked by the facemask. That sounds reasonable enough until you dig a little deeper into the facts of the situation. I did some research and found that nearly 400 such penalties are called on average each season. But did you know that only about one player per season suffers a broken neck? You read that right. Out of 400 "dangerous" plays, there's only one broken neck per season. The odds of having your mask grabbed without breaking your neck is about 99.75%. What's more, is players can break their necks in other ways unrelated to facemask grabbing. So why then do we have the facemask rule if it's not really about safety you may ask... CONTROL The league implemented this bogus rule under the pretense of player safety in order to get players to comply. Since then, they've added additional rules about not hitting with the crown of the helmet, not hitting the QB low, etc. But if pads work, why do we need all these rules? It makes it much harder to tackle when you can't grab a facemask or launch yourself at a WR coming across the middle, but you nearly never see players die as a result of these "dirty" plays. I'm not saying that players should have to start spearing QBs or swinging opponents around by their facemasks. I'm saying that each player should do their own research as to how dangerous it really is and decide for themselves. If they decide that the risks are overblown, then I support their right to do their jobs they way they see fit. Whether you agree with them or not, you should support players who don't just blindly follow these tyrannical mask rules like sheep.

Would you want to raise your hand and ask "What's wrong with Tommy Sweeney? Is Tommy Sweeney okay?" No, I don't believe you would.

If there's one fanbase that should have learned this lesson by now, it's the Bills. Nothing is given to you in this league. Beane has done a ton to make the team a contender, but there's still work to be done. The one thing I think he still needs to prove is that he can add talent without using premium picks/resources. To date, almost all of the premium players have been acquired with high first round picks (Allen, White, Edmunds, Oliver, Diggs via trade). It'll be interesting to see if he can find gold in the later rounds.

No team can pay everyone, but the Chiefs are in very solid salary cap shape. Hell, they offered $23 million a year for Trent Williams before trading for Orlando Brown. There's still plenty of room to be had, and a big part of that is because they've hit on so many draft picks. There are three rookies starting on the offensive line alone. You can pay big money to veterans as long as you refill the pipeline with cheap talent. There are only 3 starters on offense who aren't on their rookie contracts. Relying on well run organizations to implode under the weight of the salary cap is a losing proposition. The Mahomes contract for example is a huge asset, not a liability. Yes he's going to make a ton of money, but so will half the QBs in the league...and most of them don't belong in the same league as he does. If and when the Chiefs come back to the pack, it will be the result of injuries, poor drafting, etc. It won't be due to giving big contacts to all the homegrown superstars they keep drafting.

So looks like Ravens over the Saints in the Super Bowl.

Add One Player Theoretical, To Put us Over The Top
Billl replied to BillsShredder83's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If you go offense, this is the correct answer. But I'd still go Aaron Donald. -
The Chiefs rested their entire first string in week 17. Other than that, they were 14-1. Buffalo was 6-1 in one score games while getting blown out three times (two of which were by Kansas City). If you're going to play this game, you have to apply the same rules to everyone.

Pretty much every good player the Jags have ever had wanted to get out of Jacksonville. At some point, the common denominator becomes the most likely source of the problem. Remember this thread from a year ago? https://www.twobillsdrive.com/community/topic/223297-updated-yannick-tweets-again/

Base for Edmunds extension? D Leonard signs 5 years 99 million
Billl replied to DJB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's an interesting point, and Edmunds may wind up testing your theory if he doesn't have a true breakout season. With Milano already getting a second deal, you're looking at a lot of money potentially tied up in 4-3 LBs. If guys like Epenesa and Oliver step up and provide a pass rush, there might be budget for him. Otherwise, I don't see how you can afford to throw more big money at the second level if there is still no solution to the pass rush. Obviously they've spent a lot of draft capital looking for the answer, but if the answer doesn't reveal itself this season, some of that money is going to have to go towards an established guy, and they aren't cheap. -
Why Josh Allen is not a "one hit wonder"
Billl replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They'd both take Josh in a heartbeat. Maybe not their fans, but no front office is confusing Mayfield for Allen. They're going to pay them like Allen, though. Enjoy being on the right side of the catch 22. -
How many people don't like Allen's new deal?

Stupid Patriots fans don't even know how many games are in a season... Stupid Patriots fans don't even know how many games are in a season... -
Predict Josh Allen's Next Contract

Just off by a year. Nailed the AAV. -
Not a bad prediction.

Bills currently tied for 3rd in Vegas odds to win Super Bowl
Billl replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What difference does that make today? They are four years removed from college. I think it's safe to say that Allen's college WRs aren't factored into the Superbowl odds. -
RB is a really GLARING need, right?

It was a joke. No offense meant. -

Daniel Jones is a more talented runner than Saquan? There's hot takes and then there's this. -
I'm curious to know if there's a game that Edwards's supporters can point to that would illustrate him as a potential dominant force at LB. I've seen some really nice plays here and there, but I've never seen him ruin an opening team's gamelan. He and Milano are going to account for nearly $25,000,000 of cap soon, and I have a tough time understanding how that's value. Even if they were truly elite at their roles, I don't know that the scheme they're in lends itself to allowing them to be game wreckers. Seems like a ton of money to pay guys who are pretty average players filling de-emphasized positions. I suppose the plan is to spend money at LB and spend draft capital up front, but guys like Oliver and Epenesa had better take the next step because the front 7 has had a ton of resources poured into it.

Good question, and it depends how you look at it I guess. A few years ago I was shoveling my car out of the driveway after a huge snowstorm. At that moment, a snowblower would have been worth $1000 to me. I can buy one today for $300, but I haven't done it. It's 80 degrees and sunny, so my perspective is different. When the Bills couldn't get any pressure on Mahomes during the AFCCG, I'm guessing most fans would have been willing to pay multiple first round picks for a guy like Mack in that moment. Now that it's the off season, people get a little tighter with the purse strings. What I do know is that I've watched that game enough times that I'm supremely confident that Buffalo is going to struggle to slow down Kansas City until they get a true MFer who can put Mahomes on his ass. I don't think that guy was on the roster. The draft tells me that Beane agrees with me. Personally, I'd take Mack over Epenesa, Basham, and Rousseau (for 2021 at least).
