  1. The Milano situation is a perfect example of a mindset that will need to change. Top teams have to let good players go because not all good players are key pieces. MM is a good player, but Linebackers who get a bunch of tackles but aren’t pass rushers aren’t key pieces. You can replace them with JAGs for a fraction of the cost and use that money to retain Tre or whomever and be much better off. 4-3 LBers just don’t move the needle enough to keep them when it’s time to separate the “wants” from the “needs”.
  2. That’s a bastardization of statistics. You don’t want your QB to be forced to throw the ball over the yard for 60 minutes in order to win, but you DO want a guy who is capable of it. Of course it’s great when you can hand the ball off 40 times and win 27-3 without being forced to pass, and your record is going to be great when the opponent can’t stop your running game. Josh is 0-8 when the opponent scores over 21 points.
  3. What game should I watch? I’d love to get on your level of football knowledge, and I’ve got Gamepass. I’d love to know what scheme change is going to turn a guy who allowed 15 TDs on 132 targets over the past two seasons into a serviceable player. Give me an example of a game where he flashed enough to show that he’s ready for a renaissance at age 33.
  4. I thought there was some sort of unwritten rule that teams didn’t poach players like that.
  5. Ryan saw the field a lot more than Norman, so his suckage was more cumulative, I suppose. If Norman had seen the same amount of passes his way, he was pacing to give up 17 TDs. It’s really remarkable just how bad he was. I suppose if you’re trying to plug someone in for a historically inept CB in Josh Norman, Ryan’s a perfect fit. If you want to save money without a drop off in production, you could just play 10 on 11 and hire me to yell “DROP IT DROP IT DROP IT” at my television.
  6. Ryan was much better than Norman. Ryan: 7.6 yards allowed per target, 5 TDs allowed in 103 targets, QB rating allowed 88.7, 4 INTs, 4.5 sacks Norman: 9.7 yards per target, 7 TDs allowed in 46 targets, QB rating allowed 129, 1 INT, 1 sack.
  7. Josh Norman could be replaced by letting the grass grow an extra day and you wouldn’t see a drop off. He was literally the worst player in the NFL last year. He was targeted 46 times and gave up 7 TDs and 444 yards. Opposing QBs had a rating of 129 when targeting him. The guy is horrific, and he wasn’t much better in 2018.
  8. The point is that there’s a difference in philosophy between building a team to compete in the future and putting the finishing touches on a championship contender. When you’re in your window, getting 1% better is worth overpaying for. The Chiefs gave up a ton for the right to overpay Frank Clark. Then he had 5 sacks in the postseason, helped win the Lombardi trophy, and nobody cares what he cost anymore because flags fly forever. What’s more is that the Chiefs then went out and signed everyone anyway because the salary cap is about as effective as Trump’s border wall.
  9. Who needs trophies when you could have salary cap space instead?
  10. CBs tend to be elite for very limited amounts of time before rapidly declining whereas elite DEs can produce at a high level for a decade or more.
  11. The list of QBs that TBD thinks suck is littered with MVPs.
  12. Kansas City has some bad contracts come off the books after the 2020 season. They’re in great shape. Not much cap room but enough to supplement their superstars with draft picks and cheaper free agents at less critical positions.
  13. They’re going to make a run at the first overall pick in the draft. If that happens, they can keep Darnold for season 4 and likely trade him for a decent pick. He could have a Drew Brees type career.
  14. How many great RBs do you think will come out of last years draft?
  15. I like Singletary, but I need to see him score. Yards per carry is nice, but it’s not nearly as important if all your carries are between the twenties where yards are cheap. Hunt had 11 TDs as a rookie. He fumbled on his first career carry and then had around 600 touches without fumbling again. If motor can hold onto the ball and find the endzone, he’s going to be a good one. Also just saw that he had 41 targets in the passing game but only 5 catches for first downs. Seems oddly low.
  16. TE has got to be one of the most difficult positions to project in terms of the draft. There’s really very little correlation between draft slot and NFL success. Off the top of my head, I can’t think of a great one since Tony Gonzalez who was drafted in the first round. Gates: undrafted Hernandez: 4th round Gronkowski: 2nd round Ertz: 2nd round Kelce: 3rd round Kittle: 5th round Who am I missing?
  17. Tyreek is under contract for 3 more seasons. Veach is big on giving players extensions that put them at top of the market by current salary standards but will be below scale by the time the cap hits come due. The salary cap is like the tax code. There’s a way around just about everything if you’re clever enough to figure it out.
  18. They’re about as untalented a roster as you’ll find, but I think their new GM is going to be good.
  19. And Kelce just got a 4 year $57mm deal that will tie him to the Chiefs for 6 more seasons.
  20. It should be. There are 25 WRs making at least $10,000,000. Kelce is around the 30th-35th highest paid pass catcher. That’s ridiculous.
  21. Kittle was targeted 13 times for 5.5 yards per attempt and a catch percentage of 61.5%. Kelce was targeted 22 times for 9.4 yards per attempt and a catch percentage of 86.4%. He also drew nearly 100 yards in DPI/holding penalties.
  22. Kittle in the playoffs: 8 catches, 71 yards, 0 TDs Kelce in the playoffs: 19 catches, 207 yards, 4 TDs, 1 ring
  23. Why do people have a problem with athletes being overpaid? They bring us SO much entertainment while abusing their bodies. These are people who often grew up poor and are now trying to bring their entire families out of the cycle of poverty. Their money makes a difference for a generation. The alternative is that the owners add a rounding error level increase to their net worth. Even if the player just wants to blow the money on hookers and blow, then score one for the little guy who gets to enjoy 1% of what billionaires have.
