They didn't move up in the draft and devote major ammo to land those receivers, and only AJ Brown is elite The OP's point is that making a Julio Jones type deal to move up for a receiver doesn't equate to championships, and I would agree. We have an elite QB in his prime on a massive contract. This team has to build its roster through the draft to keep contending

One positive from Diggs departure that isn't being discussed
BeastMaster replied to BeastMaster's topic in The Stadium Wall
And i think that's what the Bills are trying to do by doing a small reset of the roster where they have let go of older players that are no longer great or worth the cost. They got a good return on Diggs, and hopefully they get an impact receiver or two from this draft. Next season they hopefully get another impact player or two...along with maybe a key free agent or two, and we are back to being looked at as a top tier roster. -

It seems as if some aren't really getting the point If you would like to cry about the Bills moves this offseason, then your welcome to find a thread dedicated to such a thing My post is discussing the benefits from the moves they have made -
Interesting idea, and honestly...I wouldn't hate it. As the OP eluded to...Matt Milano has had some trouble with injuries, and he's likely trending on the backend of his prime. If the right deal came along, I'd be open to this move. The team is looking to reload and fill the roster with young talent.

I'm not saying McDermott will get us any further than we have been during his time as head coach. What I'm saying is that there's now a narrative that may benefit Josh and the Bills. I expect a season similar to the past few where we are in the playoffs and have a legitimate shot. Only difference is that now if we do that, Josh will receive more credit, which may get him an MVP trophy -
is that I now believe the narrative on Josh and the Bills in general has changed. We are now according to the media a non contender. We lost both our top two receivers and one being a top five guy in Diggs. We had to let go of our safeties, our Center, and our best pass rusher from last season. The window is closed. The Bills won't be a threat, and Josh has a rag tag group to throw to. This to me opens up the door for Josh to elevate his game this season...to stay within himself and the offense to put up a phenomenal season which will give the media no other option but to recognize his greatness and finally let him win his first MVP award. This team is not what the media is portraying it in my eyes, but that doesn't matter because they have already decided we are worse, that Josh has no real receivers, and that we are yesterday's news. It's a good spot to be in for not just the team, but for Josh and his MVP chances

interesting WR scenario posed by a friend
BeastMaster replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall
Both ideas are not smart for this team at all Trading premium picks for a player that wants a new deal where he's paid as a top guy is what bad franchises do. Teams like Buffalo with a franchise QB jettison those guys and regain capital to strengthen the entire roster and keep contending. I also do not see the brilliance in trading up in a deep draft class at wideout. Just let the board fall to you. I also don't see Brian Thomas Jr as anything more than a raw prospect that isn't a sure thing. Not worth attaching a high second rounded to trade up for when I can wait and possibly land him or aquire another talented receiver that is more ready to play immediately. Make the pick at 28, and then trade 60 and our second next year for a high second this year and a mid round round pick next season. Now you have two talented rookies at wideout and you keep your first next season along with the high second from Minnesota -
Just to play a bit of devils advocate here...what if Josh would have better prepared himself in the offseason and we beat the Jets week 1 and Allen doesn't throw a boatload of picks in the first half of the season? Diggs doesn't lay into Josh, and this team possibly gets the first round bye and we maybe win the superbowl. We had to fight and claw the second half of the season because Josh wasn't good enough the first half and it cost us. Seems to me like maybe Diggs had somewhat of a point about preparation

Media coverage of Diggs trade before and after
BeastMaster replied to BarleyNY's topic in The Stadium Wall
Like most of the media (not just sports) their takes are lazy and part of the hive mind/group think mentality. It's so bad now that I usually end up tuning out within a few minutes. When you feel like numerous posters here and even you could do a better job than they do, it's a sad state of affairs -
Immediate need is WR Could use upgrade this season, but serviceable is Safety OL and DL both could use depth Boundary CB may need to be addressed if Elam isn't up to task DE needs someone to groom Not in bad shape, but I wouldn't give up too many picks and ignore those other needs

New Buscaglia mock has Bills trading up to 7 for Malik Nabers
BeastMaster replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall
Not only do I not like it (love Nabers, though), but I have serious doubts he is even available at pick seven. 4, 5, and 6 are all in play for a WR -
I've watched the games (not all) and I've seen his highlights. Most of the time he just ran past defenders or caught a screen pass and got some YAC He's thin, and he really didn't run any routes. He also had Nabers and Jayden Daniels on a top team BTJ is a guy that is being looked at as a first rounder because of his measurables. The actual skill part of being a WR is something he hasn't shown a whole lot of. Feel free to disagree, but nearly all the scouting reports say the same thing He's a project, and this team isn't looking for a guy to develop right now.
-
BTJ hasn't shown much in terms of route running, making contested catches, or displaying toughness. He's raw as can be, and would likely need a couple years before becoming what you hope he would for what you gave up to draft him. He's tall and he's fast. CeeDee Lamb and JJ went third and fourth in 2020, and Aiyuk went 6th. Pittman went in the 2nd round. Stay at 28, and go back up in the second for another wideout in a deep class. In 2025, you have cap space and even better draft capital to reload with a young and talented roster that will contend for years with Josh in his prime
-
I wasn't talking about whether Diggs benefitted from Josh...that is absolutely true. You responded to my post saying that Diggs helps his fellow receivers by drawing their best defensive back and in some cases safety help I'm good with moving on from Diggs, but we don't need to try and make him out to be some kind of bum that we were better off without. I simply want people to acknowledge that he is a very good player that made this team better when he was on the field I believe it was time also, and I don't blame Josh one bit if he said he's had enough. This can actually be something Josh can use to shut up all those that wanna act like Diggs made Josh Allen into the player he is, and that he'll be worse without him. If Josh can ball out this season and the Bills once again win the division with at least 10 wins, then I would imagine that he would be in serious conversation for MVP
-
Even if this is true, he's still being covered by a team's top defensive back The Bills receivers benefitted from Diggs being on the field. This is not even a discussion
-
TBF, this doesn't account for the attention Diggs was likely receiving from the teams best corner with a safety shaded over his way also

So You Need to Move Diggs..Why the Texans??
BeastMaster replied to Rich Stadium Original's topic in The Stadium Wall
They have alot to prove this season before I can say they passed us -
I like Legette. He reminds me of AJ Brown...just a physical guy that can run and catch. He's big and fast enough with the physicality to win contested catches. I also like Coleman, although I'm not sure he's quite fast enough to be a number one. My preference is to get two guys in the first two rounds. I would be fine standing pat and drafting someone at 28 with a trade back for Legette, or Coleman, or Mitchell, or Worthy. I am not opposed to drafting Thomas, but I'm not moving up for him, and I'm getting another guy that is more NFL ready so he isn't forced into trying to be the guy right away.

BeastMaster replied to Rich Stadium Original's topic in The Stadium Wall
I will tell you this...Beane and McDermott better make damn sure that they beat the Texans when the play them this year or it's going to look really bad for this franchise. Another scenario I wouldn't mind is if Houston can beat the Chiefs. -
Brian Thomas has huge bust potential. Doesn't seem to have good hands, doesn't display toughness, and hasn't shown the ability to run good routes either I get that he's big and fast, but the tape doesn't lie. He either ran by people and was wide open, or he caught a screen pass and made a play. It certainly didn't hurt having Nabers on the other side with Daniels as the QB either He is a project that might not ever realize his potential. It's not what this team needs
-
This is the best move for the roster moving forward IMO They shouldn't move multiple high round picks to grab a WR in the first round in a WR rich class. If you wanna move up in round two because there is still someone you considered worthy of the pick you wanna go up to in order to draft them, then that is much more affordable and doesn't take much away for next season when you now will have at least three picks in the first two rounds.
-
What we got in return for unloading Diggs is actually a fairly good return. The Vikings second rounder will likely be much higher than Houstons would be. Not getting a pick this season stings a bit, but that pick we got will be a pretty valuable pick come 2025. Diggs is expensive, troublesome, aging, and didn't produce at his expectations the last half of last season. They did fine with what they got...I just wish it would've given us an immediate return instead of the season after. CJ Stroud likely OK'd the acquisitions of both Mixon and Diggs. They are choosing to go with acquiring talent route and ignoring the chemistry/locker room component. Things may start off ok, but those guys could become a problem in the blink of an eye. It will be interesting to watch them in the coming years
-
This is a move you cannot afford to make when your paying a premium for a franchise QB...the picks are too valuable, and the cost for said players contract just isn't optimal for the construction of a well rounded roster
-
If he's a major contributor in the Texans winning a Lombardi, I would take that bet He's gonna have the numbers. The question will be whether he can help take a team to the promised land I have no idea what kind of impact Diggs will have, but I would imagine he will be a factor for at least his first couple years
