Defensive Tackle: Is it the Players or the System?
FireChans replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall
Oh man one bad rushing game let me tell you about McD’s defense lmao -
While I find it very comical how indignant fans get regarding this topic, it’s not really out of the realm of possibility. Most elite franchise guys don’t move but some have. I think there’s very good odds Josh is the Bills QB until he retires, but I think Pats fans said the same about Brady for 20 years. And he’s the greatest ever and had done all there was to do. Weird things happen. If Josh decided to walk without winning one here, I would probably hate him for a long time unless we turned around and got a great replacement.

Defensive Tackle: Is it the Players or the System?

Schwartz 2017 D was #1 against the rush lol. it was a bad take. It’s ok -
Yeah and Josh Allen in 2019 took the Bills to 10 wins and the playoffs. Bryce Young in his second season was benched for Andy Dalton and was 4-8 as a starter. Ignoring the obvious difference between QBs and safeties, I’m not saying Bishop’s career is over or that he’s toast. What I’m saying is that when Beane and co draft a DB high like that, especially in a position group that is talent bereft, you have to think the expectation was to see more than what we did from Bishop. Which is not dissimilar to what happened with Elam. If you recall, Elam was their high CB target and he had very limited competition for that job. He couldn’t take it and that was a bad sign. Not every player is gonna be Tre White and be very good from the jump. There are levels to this. I think everyone including the Bills FO feels worse about Bishops chances than they did last April. Do you disagree?
-
I mean, Bryce Young had a nice stretch where he wasn’t arguably the worst QB in football. Are you putting money on him being the next star QB?
-
He’s not going to be a superstar if he can’t beat out a slow as molasses complete liability 6th round pick career backup. Listen, I’m not giving up on Bishop yet. But the light needs to come on, soon, to justify his draft position. His rookie year was about as worst case scenario as it comes. He was lost out there. He may have had the worst rookie season out of a Bills highly drafted player that I have seen in quite a while. Even Elam showed some promise (that quickly evaporated).

Who was the last zillionaire 20 something that we signed in FA?
-
The argument that Bishop needed to be a superstar to beat out Damar Hamlin is kinda nuts.
-
See here I thought the SB was more of a referendum on OL play. Pacheco and Hunt couldn’t get back to the LOS without getting blown up. Which is kind of the point. Saquon, Cook etc would have all had a bad day behind that OL.
-
How many snaps did Shakir play in the slot vs outside in Buffalo. 70% slot makes you pretty much a slot guy. The Chargers didn’t keep McConkey in the slot all year because they are in love with Quentin Johnston on the boundary imo. Just because Coleman is playing the X doesn’t mean we aren’t missing one.

The question is would be it surprising if James Cook was thought of as a Joe Mixon level RB in a season or two? It wouldn’t be to me. Jonathan Taylor was looked at as maybe the best RB in football in 2021. 3 years later, is he still a good RB? Absolutely. Is he still that guy? Absolutely not imo. Breece Hall was looked at the next big thing. He got hurt and was still great last season. This season, he fell off a bit. Still a good player of course but not a guy in line for the next big RB extension. These guys really just are very up and down for the most part. So much is dependent on the OL and scheme and usage. If the Bills OL suffers a rash of injuries next season, a big Cook extension may seem like a total disaster.

Ed just needs a Star or Daquan to be successful. Oh wait. maybe let’s not rely on a 260 pound pass rushing DT to make a consistent impact. -
The football trifecta and where do the Bills stand?
FireChans replied to Sweats's topic in The Stadium Wall
Stevan Ridley is trolling right. -
Of course he is. These folks just want to watch competitive ball. They want to win a SB of course, but that’s secondary to the ride they are on. If you can’t see the merits of moving on from McD now, you never will.
-
Okay so let’s get some good WR’s and add a great RB and rebuild the defense to be the best in football. who says no Okay. might as well not get more talented. we are just too far to bother. Lets sign 6 Mack Hollins instead.
-
You won’t help me because you know they are all examples of Allen doing it nearly single-handedly, like being the first QB with a passing, rushing and receiving TD in a game lmao. Too easy man, I shouldn’t do this for free.
-
What records did he set? It certainly wasn’t most yards or TDs in his career, let alone record breaking.
-
What records did Allen set? and yes, the Eagles unequivocally traded a #1 pick for AJ Brown, paid him twice, went to a SB twice and won once.
-
Yeah the Eagles did that. They just had a parade. This makes Allen a nice guy. to me, this point is obvious. Allen, playing with the worst group of receivers since 2018, put up one of his most efficient seasons ever. Sure he had a great RB and a great OL. But Allen won MVP, in part imo, because his supporting cast was weak.
-
Is it inaccurate? Mahomes won MVP, won the SB and was great after trading away Tyreek, and was perfect in the Super Bowl. The next season he had his worst year as a pro. Quickly followed by his second worst year as a pro. True or false? I will admit I may have made it misleading.
-
Sure but I would argue he’d take less. Are you arguing Allen didn’t deserve MVP? I would say by definition, the MVP award is the most proof it was “all Allen” possible. My friend, if we wanna play the “exactly what you said” game, didn’t you say that you would be done with WR discussions if anyone could point to a high paid WR1 that won a Super Bowl? I don’t have time to check the tape, but I feel like that was a familiar refrain last offseason. As I said, I was talking about Mahomes. His 2022 season with Kelce and Juju was legendary. Won a Super Bowl, was clear cut MVP. Did almost everything. Since then, he has fallen off a cliff play and production wise. I wasn’t trying to say we need a Chase so my mistake. I was trying to say that the argument that 2024 proved that WR’s don’t matter because Chase missed the playoffs and the Bills offense was great despite their WR’s is foolish. Eek. Well we’ll see. I think that’s the exact WR contract that I’d steer away from. But I think the Bills will pay him so we will find out one way or another!
